Synesthesia is a condition where one's sensory "wires are crossed." Hearing colors or tasting shapes. The most common occurrence is seeing letters of numbers in certain colors.

Technically this painting started out as a commission, but then things sort of fell through, so I'm happy to have it hanging in my living room to this day.

This is how I feel when I go into Asda (Walmart to you across the pond).

I'm quite pleased with this although it doesn't fully convey the horror, as it is silent.

I have a certain amount of Synesthesia: some of it is useful..I see numbers in vivid colour, for example, and also months and letters and even certain whole words.

But loud 'music', and in particular the vacant shapeless stuff that some folk honour with that title, and any sudden high pitched noise, can make me see flashes of light.

Worst of all is the mindless screeching of a spoilt child..you know the sort, the one's that the mother could rent out as an angle-grinder if she only had enough business sense.

I can be literally, albeit temporarily, blinded by a screaming brat.

Although this pic looks like I feel in Asda, it was an accidental camera swoop in one of my favourite shops, the hobbycraft store.

Plus a little digifiddle.

That I have the number form of synesthesia, which is when you see numbers and dates/years in a certain order or map in "space". It's prompted me to try and sketch out how a year's calendar looks in my head.

It's not exactly like this, but it's a general idea. It's not a perfect oval because in my head it's not a perfect oval. In my head it's flat on the november end, and more pointed on the april may end. And yes, even in my head certain months take up more space than others. And I think it's odd that it goes counter-clockwise especially if I'm thinking of a year but not focusing on months, it goes clockwise.

Also, what I see is that since it's August, the rest of the year is seen from the point of view of where august is on my "map". If I think back to a time or a memory that say takes place in January, my point of view is automatically switched to the January point of view.

Late last night I read a tweet from Chris about a strange discovery he made about himself. Basically, in reading a Reddit post about a girl with synesthesia, he discovered that he has a condition known as aphantasia, which means he doesn’t possess what we’d call a “mind’s eye.” He apparently has always thought that when people say things like, “Picture yourself on a beach,” or, “Imagine the audience is naked,” he thought they were just being poetic or speaking in metaphor, rather than actually conjuring a mental image. It was such an interesting thing to hear about! We spent some time this morning discussing the condition, its implications, and taking turns talking about how how we think about things, what our mental abilities are, etc. Personally, I thought it was really interesting, fun conversation. It got us all thinking about how we approach creative visuals and what mental road blocks we might have that we didn’t even know about.

I got a call from Emily this morning about making a decision on the induction thing. After a lot of back and forth, we landed on not doing the appointment on the 30th. We want to give Crosby a chance to do his own thing, and if he waits too long and it turns into an emergency, they’ll make room for us.

We had a SOTU meeting this morning and video strategy meeting this afternoon at 3:30. I managed to squeeze in editing that research footage between meetings, luckily. Everyone seems shocked that I came in today, but it is my last day most likely! New Jim was at the video strategy meeting, which was kind of nice. He got to see what our work load is like and how we talk about projects in the early stages.

My back was KILLING me tonight. I went to bed early after lying on the bed for a long time holding Emily’s future vagina ice on my back. No fun!

His areas of research include time perception, vision, synesthesia, and the intersection of neuroscience with the legal system. He directs the Laboratory for Perception and Action, and is the founder and director of Baylor College of Medicine’s Initiative on Neuroscience and Law. He has written several neuroscience books, including "Wednesday is Indigo Blue: Discovering the Brain of Synesthesia," co-authored with Richard Cytowic, the forthcoming "Incognito: The Secret Lives of the Unconscious Brain," "Plasticity: The Dynamically Reorganizing Brain," and "Cognitive Neuroscience," co-authored with Jonathan Downar. He enjoys a parallel career as a writer. His book "Sum: Forty Tales from the Afterlives," became an international bestseller, is published in 22 languages and was named a Best Book of the Year by Barnes and Noble, New Scientist, and the Chicago Tribune. In honor of my synesthesia, I am retrieving a picture from the past, 2005, where I am wearing green (though it was in September of 200s). The letter "A" has always been associated with the color green in my head, as far back as I can remember, and subsequently the two months that begin with "A." I both "see" as green months, though April is lighter, more like the color of new grass, and August is deeper, like the color of a mature green leaf.

I have changed a lot in the past 6 years, mostly for the worse. Of course I had no goatee then, and I weighed about 100 pounds less in this picture than I do today. But I think I am on the mend, now, and just wait for what pictures there are to come!!!!

It's pancake day for everyone that didn't notice.

I've not uploaded an obvious photo of a pancake, as there's enough of that on today's Youtube video.

This fine looking ass is Bev's. We took some time out in the library today to do a bit more research on our portrait projects. I really do feel that I am at the bottom of a mountain at the moment and have no idea if I can reach the summit in the five weeks we've got. I mean, mixing surrealism, with synaesthesia and juggling that project with our art theory essay is going to be pretty difficult.

I've just bust out of poker at uni as well so I decided to come down to the computer rooms and sort out today's Flickr picture. I couldn't work out which one to upload though. Do you think I should have made a better decision?

'Kiss From a Rose' by Justin S. Campbell

The synesthetic image I see when the big 'I've been kissed by a rose' bridge in the song plays. And the choruses.

This isn't it, but this is supposed to represent the woods and grass off the side of the trail leading to the cabin in Quebec, in the land owned by my paternal grandpa. Early in the morning just before dawn, with a lot of blue.

What it actually is is the woods off the Barron River in Algonquin Park last year. But it looks identical to what I see so it works.

I used a fake duotone effect in Photoshop to get the blue, which is the primary color that the image in my head basically is. Most of the song is a light blue like this to me.

The song is by Seal and was written/produced for the Batman Forever movie in 1995. Joel Schumacher directed the movie, as well as the music video for the song as well.

I think I derive a lot of the blue from the fact that when I was very young and saw the music video, it had a lot of blue in it (lots of blue light) so it influenced how I saw it synesthetically. As a result I also associate this blue tinge when I visually think of the year 1995.
