Daniel Tammet is one of the world's best-known synaesthetes. One of his remarkable abilities? Seeing figures and numbers in colour, endowing them with a texture, with a story and a personality. An original and poetic vision.

The photographer Jerome Tabet wanted to reveal this mysterious and inaccessible world. His photos, abstract and brilliant, freely inspired by Tammet's synaesthesia, push back the borders of mathematical representation and open the doors to a universe in motion, alive, vibrating and cosmic.

You know you're guilty of it yourself. Not that its wrong but there are quite a few that seem to rely on using textures to make their pictures, therefore making their pictures about how messed up their 'negatives' are rather than what they're actually taking pictures of. Don't get me wrong, I've noticed myself doing that myself. That's why I stopped it.

Though I do make exceptions for lomography. I own two lomo snappers afterall :P

It nearly seems that sometimes the dust and tectures are fighting with the subject matter for the top seat of attention..

For the record I dont like this, just for the fact it's of me again. Pete was right when he said I'm dying for subject matter.

Stuff..

- I've started editing Lest we forget. Im about 70something frames short.. time to break out the incriminating/embarrassing photos ;D

- The other 1/2 of the family returned from their weekend holiday, goodbye free time.

- I'm finally getting stuff done. LWF was one of the main ones on the list.

- Have a look at this little short. A very well made approach to the neurological condition that is nearly a gift rather than an illness - synesthesia

Lighting...

2 bare Vivitar 285HVs cross lit. One about 2-3ft away, 70degrees camera right, firing through the perspex. The other about 9ft away hitting the rear-left hand side of my face/hand. But you could work that out yourself.. right?

Much better, but still not perfectly accurate - none of my representations will be properly accurate.

17-18 seconds into the song.

Everything's explained in the notes. And normally it's more 3D (such as the bass line).

This regret is tied to the one before and after this (number six and eight). I have such a passion for music and have really loved making, performing and listening to music ever since I was a child. A few people know this random fact about me: I have Synesthesia, Phono and Photographic memory. I see music in color, I remember things I see and hear almost verbatim. I can write songs and lyrics very quickly and remember them years later… but I work for a Health Insurance company.

The reason why I am not a professional musician starts with one thing: faith. No matter how many abilities and talents I may have, I don’t believe that I can do it because I had absolutely no support as a child growing into things. I have played and performed, but had I had the fearless life (that I am close to now) 20 years ago- I have no doubt whatsoever that I would be on a few hundred stages a year.

I have not given up the dream- I have simply modified it. I regret that I listened to people who discouraged me. My father saw music as a waste of time and a childhood dream. He even went as far as to call me Peter Pan until I was 26. I think he wants to understand my passion- but I simply quite trying to convince or explain things to him years ago. I once met a prophet who told me my destiny- if only I’d walked towards it years ago.

And I'll face the consequences for everything I done...

And Lord sometimes I wonder if you're even there...

Cause my burden is backbreaking, it's more than I can bear.

Cause I lost my job, my bills are getting bigger...

Crying baby, I'm bout to lose my mind

Hundred dollar habit, ain't got a penny...

Woman ran off with a friend of mine...

Can't keep a job... too ****ed up...

DHS is bout to take my kids

Trying to get well, keep getting sicker...

I have Synesthesia. I have the ability to see sound in color. I didn’t know it was a gift until someone told me about it. It is hard to describe how it works, but when I hear a song it sparks patterns of color. I don’t know how rare a gift it is, but I heard one time it was 1 in 20,000. Not bad!

I have Synaesthesia, so this basically is what i see when i listen to Owl City's Fireflies. Of course, since everything is always changing with the music, i decided to paint some of my favorite parts of the song. :)

PS.

the reason i always paint these on black backgrounds are because of two things. #1, because i find it's easier for me to see everything when its on a black background, and #2 i always forget to paint the first bit on a new layer so i can't change the black very easily when it turns out i want to paint the background colour of the song XD

I smell this when I see it.

On David Crosby's new Album "Croz" there's a song called "Dangerous Night"

Right from the opening piano note this song has effected me.

Can I describe "how" this song makes me feel? It's a near impossible task when you have synesthesia. But how it makes me feel also makes it near impossible to hold inside. It wants to burst out of me.

Like, I wish I could just take all that this song makes me feel, and somehow let you feel it for even a moment. How it rushes over me. How I can hear all the tones and instruments separately and together all at the same time. How certain tones in my mind explode in colours. That piano note? It was yellow then as it rise it became pink.

My senses leak together. I smell things that I see, I hear things that I smell, I taste things that I see, stuff like that. It seems to be even far and away past 3 dimensional. It transcends that. It takes me somewhere, I don't even know really. Maybe home.

When you are Autistic you also stand a much greater chance of having synesthesia. I honestly believe most of us on the spectrum do. After all, that's the crux of Autism, in the wiring of the brain and the interpretation of the world. It just makes "sense" to me that it would be this way.

Photography is also another way I can express myself and feel and navigate the world around me. I find that others cannot capture in myself what I can, so I've been turning the camera on myself for most of my life while not allowing others to photograph me. I'm the only one who knows how the song makes me feel, and how to capture it with a camera. It gives me more of a clear voice because I struggle with the physical one I have and the brain that controls it.

I'll let some of the lyrics do the rest of the talking, and a link to the song. Thanks for letting me share.

I wake up from a dream of a baby and a blast

Scenes from the television in the blue light it cast

Seek peace in your own heart sounds true, sounds right

I’m a troubled soul searching for peace in the night

Send me someone who has doubts about it

Who has conquered their own fear and lived to tell about it

Someone who won’t give up in the frozen rain

Who’ll walk right next to me through the orchards and the grain

Trying to figure out how it all fits together

Humans and sun and oceans and weather

And even if I dream alone on such a dangerous night

Tryin’ to make all these pieces fit right
