Eyes Wide Open: The Human Cost of War, an exhibit created by the American Friends Committee, is a living memorial to the military personnel and civilians killed in Iraq - and a stark reminder of the human cost of war.
It first opened in January 2004 with over 500 pairs of boots. Three years later, this memorial day weekend, over 3,400 pairs are included to represent the dead soldiers (3434 when I was there today).
It's a very powerful exhibit to say the least.

is no resting place for the WTC 9/11 victims.
"Fresh Kills" is an actual garbage dump in New Jersey (really!) and WTC Families For Proper Burial wants all "ashen remains" which were carried there with the World Trade Center rubble to be removed and "properly buried".
I-is that possible? Isn't ash just carbon? How would you even determine which ash came from people and which came from, say, paper?

DUP MP for North Belfast Nigel Dodds presenting a commemorative bar to Robert Crawford, one of his constituents, who is a veteran of the Normandy landings.
Nigel Dodds wrote to the Normandy Council to request the Bar after being contacted by Mr Crawford’s daughter, Anne Baxter, in October. The Bar was created by the Region of Basse-Normandie and the Normandie Memoire Espace Historique to mark the 65th anniversary of the D-Day landings and the Battle of Normandy and is available to veterans who were unable to attend the commemorative event this year.
Mr Crawford landed at Arromanches on D-Day+11, while the beaches were coming under shell-fire, and served with The Service Corps in Normandy and Antwerp.

Self-waving flag as seen at Mal-Wart. A great timesaver for those with hectic lifestyles! These colors don't run without batteries, so make sure to stock up!
Note the mandatory angry eagle pictures. If it doesn't have the Angry Eagle Seal of Approval, it's not a patriotic product!
People in Canada have worn red on Fridays to show support for troops serving in the Canadian Forces. Red is chosen because it is an official Canadian colour, and historically is a colour of remembrance because it symbolizes the red poppies in Flanders Fields and the loss of life that the country has endured.
This photograph is dedicated to those who serve our country and those who serve in other countries.

Good grief! Was it really necessary to specify each local unit? Couldn't it have just been 15A-D or something? No one can even read this from another car because the text is so small.
“As both a veteran and as a senator, I have seen Barbara Boxer put politics ahead of our men and women who have served in uniform. Carly Fiorina, on the other hand, has been outspoken in her support of our military, and I know she will be a vocal advocate for our troops as a member of the U.S. Senate." - Sen. John McCain
