The Quiraing, Skye
It was so dull when I arrived and had to sit for 10 minutes before this patch of sunlight flashed across.
The Museum of Scotland, a modern (late 1990s) construction that is joined to the earlier, Victorian Royal Museum of Scotland, The exhibits in this part of the museum are effectively in chronological order, with items from prehistory and very early history (including Pictish carved stones), rising floor by floor until the Industrial Revolution (there is a working steam engine on that floor!).
On the roof (the white shape like a horizontal D on the upper right) there is a terraced garden, which gives you fabulous views across the Old Town (and it is all free to enter). I was walking up past Greyfriars opposite, and the spring light was making the stonework of Moray sandstone glow beautifully, I just had to stop and take a B&W shot.
Dark clouds and rays of sun over Invalides in Paris, France.
The extreme contrast between the bulidings and the sky always gives me trouble... this one was no different...
I used a handheld autobracket, the darkest of the bracket really caught the clouds beautifully, but was soo dark on the buildings that the blending of it with the lighter layers was too much. Plus, when i took the photos, my espresso fueled body was not up to holding very still, and the wobble from the 1st frame of the bracket to the last was very noticible, and it was a circular wobble... tough to fix.
I ended up only using 2 of the darkest frames from the autobracket, and adjustment layers to bring out the colors in the foreground.
Wikipedia:
Les Invalides in Paris, France, is a complex of buildings in the city's 7th arrondissement containing museums and monuments, all relating to the military history of France, as well as a hospital and a retirement home for war veterans, the building's original purpose. The buildings house the Musée de l'Armée, the military museum of the Army of France, the Musée des Plans-Reliefs, and the Musée d'Histoire Contemporaine, as well as the burial site for some of France's war heroes, notably Napoleon Bonaparte.
Sunlight on the way up the Great Smoky Mountain National Park shines through the trees. The Mr was focused on making it to New Found Gap at the top and making absolutely no stops, so The Mrs had to shoot quick on the way while hanging out the window (story of her life). Do you ever have trips that you shoot out the window while moving on to the next destination?

I posted my last picture just before me and my wife left for our annual 4th of July road trip and hence didn't had a chance to read all of the feedback I got on the image. To say I was happy would be an understatement, I am really glad that so many people liked the image and am really thankful for all the comments and encouragements.
More about today's picture, we decided to stay close this time and rented a beautiful cottage in the small town of Big Pine, CA. This was probably one of the least planned trips as we were both a bit sick at the beginning of the trip. Anyways our first stop was at the stunning Alabama hills location near Lone Pine. We were there just before sunset and we really wanted to up the Whitney Portal road for the sunset. So I quickly made a pano shot before we hit the road again. Hope you all like it, tanks for visiting…
