Gibt es auch einen deutschen Namen für diese Libelle ?
Not the prettiest sight soaking up the UV, but when you're a Green Bottle nobody looks twice anyway :)

I was a bit surprise to see Florida turtles thrive in Germany - after all these lakes regularly freeze over - but they clearly do.

Enjoying today's sunny weather on top of a tree in my backyard!
Light at the wrong side but still happy with the result!

Many thanks to everyone for the excellent title suggestions. T'wasn't an easy decision and in the end it came down to a toss-up between "Sunbathing" as suggested by KatB and "Even Nature Has Its Secrets" by Natalie Franke. So you're both welcome to claim your prize. :-)

Happy Bokeh Wednesday!

At this time of year, male adders are taking every opportunity to soak up the spring sunshine as they prepare for the upcoming mating season. You can even see them flattening out their bodies to maximise the area exposed to the sunshine.
The males emerge several weeks before the females and will shed their skins soon in preparation for mating. Although they have not fed since the previous autumn, apparently they will not hunt until after mating has been completed. It seems a long time to go without at least a snack!
No sunglasses because the sky was overcast, sunbathing was hardly a justification for lying on these unforgiving pebbles... And there was nothing like an arousing presence in Mr-blue-boxer-briefs' field of view, despite appearances to the contrary 😉 : he was actually lying to the side of ... his mummy and daddy, photoshopped out of existence quite uncharitably for the sake of improving the visual appeal of this picture...
Nor was he flaunting his silky skin to passers-by, because they were few and far between. As for the photographer, he was also hidden from his view, on the opposite side of the river, using a long telephoto lens😎
Maybe he was just enjoying the feeling of the balmy summertime breeze on his naked skin, to the point where this sensuous pleasure swoll the cotton of his blue underwear...
It is a beautiful day for a hockey game.
Game 3 goes tonight and the city is already filling up with people. They are opening new venues for the immense crowds to gather at.
I am out of here for the rest of the day.
In the absence of Golden Eagles or wild animals or any fresh flowers I had to be content with practicing in the garden and found quite a lot! Including this spider: Araneus Diadematus otherwise known as the Garden Orb Spider (quite harmless!)
"We have been out here all day. My cheeks are red and I am sure I am burnt in places."
"Sounds like a personal problem. You of should have tanned like me 'hairless cat style'".
"We only have one smiley ball and you used it."
"Ahh, so true. Let's lay out again tomorrow and I'll give you a turn."
"That's OK. I think I'd rather be tanned unevenly and I am sure the neighbors agree since we are in the front yard."
"True that."
Sunbathing on the rocks on the island of Hydra, Greece. I thought this scene looked a tad more interesting from above and in b&w!
