A Wood Duck drake (Aix sponsa) soaks up the sun in the calm waters of White Rock Lake in Dallas, Texas. The Wood Duck is a flamboyant and colorful species of North American waterfowl. They are also one of only a few ducks that have claws on their feet, allowing them to perch and nest in trees. They will also use man-made nesting boxes in areas where tree cavities are scarce. They tend to build their nests within one mile of a lake shore, river bank, or other body of water.

Pangong Tso, Tibetan for "high grassland lake", also referred to as Pangong Lake, is an endorheic lake in the Himalayas situated at a height of about 4,350 m (14,270 ft). It is 134 km (83 mi) long and extends from India to China. Approximately 40% of the length of the lake lies in India. The lake is 5 km (3.1 mi) wide at its broadest point. During winter the lake freezes completely, despite being saline water.
Pangong Tso can be reached in a five-hour drive from Leh, most of it on a rough and dramatic mountain road. The road crosses the villages of Shey and Sakti and traverses the Chang La, where army sentries and a small teahouse greet visitors. The road down from Chang La leads through Tangste and other smaller villages, crossing a river called Pagal Naala or "The Crazy Stream". The spectacular lakeside is open during the tourist season, from May to September.

This is yet another picture of my overlanding truck. This one was shot in southeastern Washington in the beautiful Kaniksu National Forest. The weather had turned colder and it began to rain over the weekend. Nighttime temperatures were dropping down into the lower 40s... definitely not my favorite type of weather for camping...
"Not All Who Wander Are Lost" is the description written on the front license plate. I had another epic overland journey in 2023. However, I not only managed to do a great job of scratching the sides of the truck on a trail that was closing in without anywhere to turn around, but I broke the small shield protecting the transfer case (up under the front of the engine) when I smashed the armor plating up against it. It made rattling sounds the entire trip back down to southern Florida. As for the dozens of scratches on the sides, I hope that some buffing will take many of them out.
Also on this trip, I had intended to go up into Alaska to spend a month. However, when I called a few weeks in advance to make reservations, I found out that the only ferry that runs across the gulf was out of commission (or at least not running this year). I was deeply disappointed but now I'm making plans for next year.

Hello everyone! It's that time of the year again. 2018 is coming to a close, and I thought I'd update you guys.
The biggest news I have is that, I now have an Instagram account! My username is metarix_studios.
You can follow me here: www.instagram.com/metarix_studios/
No, that doesn't mean I'll stop posting on flickr! But with the 1000 photo restriction that they are putting into place, I thought it would be nice to expand onto a new platform. I'll be posting the same stuff on both accounts, but i'll be posting more bonus content on Instagram (such as WIP, non-lego stuff). If you guys have an account make sure to follow, so you don't miss out!
I've also recetely reached 700 followers on here, so thanks a lot for those that follow me! It really does mean a lot!
In addition now is a good of a time as any to also un-shamelessness promote my youtube channel. It doesn't have to do much with lego but I post Marvel, and Doctor Who content, so if you're into that you could subscribe to me here: www.youtube.com/channel/UCikCJ2MV3tXLvBnGD6-m51w?view_as=...
I'll be posting a top 10 personal favorite photos of 2018 near the end of the year as well, so be sure to keep an eye out for that!

Bara Shigri is the largest glacier located in the state of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is also the second longest glacier in the Indian Himalayas after Gangotri, both of which are around 30 km long. The glacier is located in the Chandra Valley of Lahaul. The glacier feeds the Chenab River. The name comes from the Lahaul dialect, where Bara means big and Shigri means glacier.

Day 2 of chasing the plains of Wyoming. With a good chance of seeing what we came for. We had plans in place to be in position early to catch that's days first round of severe storms in Central Wyoming.
Moving west via Hwy 26 through Torrington, Lingle, Fort Laramie, Guernsey, then north on I-25 to Glendo where we would stop to watch the scudnado form and not produce.
Packed the gear up after this event and moved south to be ahead of part 2 of that afternoon and evenings cells that were to develop shortly after this first event.
After the jaunt south to Pine Bluff Wyoming we headed to Bushnell Nebraska. About 15 miles from Pine Bluff Wyoming to watch this next storm build and eventually move west into Nebraska. We didn't want to be under the base of this storm due to the hail core. So we backed off and awaited the storm to develop right at sunset!

Now back in South Central Nebraska... We were about to experience the strongest outflow boundary of the year. 110-120 mph winds were accompanied by this super strong beast. Tons of cloud to cloud lightning and beautiful arcus shelf cloud structure was beautiful view as she approached from the southwest.
Now moving almost directly due east we had to jimmy south to Alma Nebraska from Hwy 89 to get back in front of this monster. Believe it or not, the calm before the storm was evident here. No wind until the shelf came over our heads and then we got hit hard. Luckily we had gear already prepped and put away as headed north as soon as this hit our location.
Though you know me... I waited till the very last second to get these captures!

These are truly My Best Lightning Captures to date!
An epic night of sunset light and storm light @ twilight. Its almost every storm chasers dreams... or at least, in my own opinion, to get along side of a storm like this, as its firing away some incredible CC & CG every few seconds. What more could you ask for...
I was that Lucky Gut that evening. Just mother nature and I. Close to home after a few long storm chasing jaunts is just fine by me. She was producing and I was capturing every incredible second of this storm.. No Forking Bolt went away that evening without me getting a snap of its presence.. lol

Kedarnath Temple is a Hindu temple (shrine) dedicated to Lord Shiva. Located on the Garhwal Himalayan range near the Mandakini river, Kedarnath is located in the state of Uttarakhand, India. Due to extreme weather conditions, the temple is open to the general public only between the months of April (Akshaya Tritriya) and November (Kartik Purnima, the autumn full moon). During the winters, the vigraha (deity) from Kedarnath temple is carried down to Ukhimath, where the deity is worshiped for the next six months.

The milkyway as seen from a Malibu sea cave at low tide! This cave can get a lot of water, and one can actually get trapped if the tide rises too far while you're in there! Especially if the waves are big! And trying to navigate your way out in the dark over slippery hidden rocks and waves can be tough! Saltwater is no friend to Nikon D810s nor Sony A7RIIs! :)

Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586 m) is the third highest mountain in the world, and lies partly in Nepal and partly in Sikkim, India.
Kangchenjunga Main is the highest mountain in India, and the easternmost of the mountains higher than 8,000 m (26,000 ft). It is called Five Treasures of Snow after its five high peaks, and has always been worshipped by the people of Darjeeling and Sikkim.
Until 1852, Kangchenjunga was assumed to be the highest mountain in the world, but calculations based on various readings and measurements made by the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India in 1849 came to the conclusion that Mount Everest, known as Peak XV at the time, was the highest. Allowing for further verification of all calculations, it was officially announced in 1856 that Kangchenjunga is the third highest mountain in the world. - Wikipedia

Our car had got stranded in a huge jam on our journey to the Rohtang Pass this June when I took this snap. I was fascinated by the wide distribution of bright and dark tones and the cool blues and greens in Nature that was on offer to be photographed. The lush green patch of land in the foreground is a paradise for paragliders.

An Epic Chase Day was upon us. Though the rest of the Nation was celebrating the Holiday. National Weather Service had us pegged for a moderate risk that afternoon & evening. Due to my injures to my back the past few months. Chasing Storms has been on the back burner... Until Now!!!
First cells of the day were in North Central Kansas. The boundary line was from North Central Kansas up to Norfolk Nebraska & a bit further north. All the action that day was going to be the east of Hastings Nebraska & South. Planned it out correctly for time & distance.
We encountered this incredible updraft structure on the back side of this storm as we were passing though Hastings Nebraska. Were were trying to catch up to it Via Hwy 6 & we eventually we did just to the east to Sutton Nebraska.
This storm was producing 2" hail so we held off a few mins to the the west of Sutton. We had perfect view of the wall cloud due southwest of the hail core. Had a nice tail but never formed.
Proceeded south to get south of revved up supercell. We got along side of it via Hwy 81 south of Geneva Nebraska. Few miles south of Strang Nebraska we got ahead of the rain core & got in sight (paralleled to this storm) of this incredible developing wall cloud under the base of this storm. It did not produce a tornado but the views from this supercell were down right spectacular.
We had to reposition ourselves a few miles south of Bruning Nebraska as this Supercell move south southeast. The video & images I caught that afternoon were worth the trip. Phenomenal Storm Captures out on the plains of South Central Nebraska on the 4th of July.
Made it home to light of some fireworks & delicious bbq. Nice end to this day with family & friends after this Epic Storm Chasing Day!

Editors Note...
Once a year a pull out a few sets from years past to start of the new year. In 2024 this year I have went back & revamped one of my favorite severe storms photo shoots of 2018
Back then I over colorized & over saturated the images. Pixelated & not my best work... Images were what I wanted but not the final product. If you want to see those to compare to these remastered images... here is your Flickr Link to that set of images...
But these are Gems of Gems.. I've even added about 50+ images in this set that I wasn't able to work on back in 2018. I even made a video with the old images to kick off the 2023 season... You can watch this right here on Flickr... Click Here ** Please remember I used the old images in this video **
Lightning is my forte... It is why I chase storms. To have an photo opportunity come up like this & traveled only 6 blocks from my home to get these pics...Gotta Luv Nebraska!
