I came in like a wrecking ball

Yeah, I just closed my eyes and swung

Left me crashing in a blazing fall

All you ever did was wreck me

Yeah, you, you wreck me

This is another image I created by moving a refuse bin in order to get the road to appear black/red. This little tactic attracted a few comments on a previous image and I got couple of private messages about the image too. I would have liked to have taken a picture of the wider environment at the time but sadly I do not have a wide angle lens and I have refused to adopt modern culture by adopting a mobile phone. Whilst the mobile phone is a great invention I very much subscribe to the Christopher Hitchens view of cell phones in his alternative 8th commandment (Google it). I managed however to find an image of the location on the internet and I have provided a link below. Whereas most of my images were taken in the back street the red road images were taken on the main road at the junction with the back street. I simply dragged the bin out into better light. I think in this image the bin was sitting on a narrow pavement so instead of blocking traffic I was blocking pedestrians. Whilst it is a little cheeky of me, it is surprising how accommodating the public including car users can be once they realise what you are doing. I was not over the moon with this image but a friend requested a large print of it so I emailed it to him and he informs me it is stunning...just shows I'm a bad judge...or maybe he is....all subjective in the end!

PS if anyone would like to send me a cell phone for Christmas I will happily express my anger at it...please make sure it has a good camera in it. Init!

Wow... I finally moved south of Miller Nebraska as this storms majestic beauty was all done, but I had to get the last remaining light of the day with ending of this storm.

I stayed around for a few more snaps, there is nothing like a good Nebraska landscape/stormscape at sunset!

These were not severe storms. In fact it was about 100F and humid. Normal for us here this time of year. We were right on the edge of a passing front. Day 3 of 3 for storms in south central Nebraska.

These small spurts of cells were trying to form, and one did eventually, but wasn't able to catch up or get into position to get that special shot. There were a few good captures from this day but not many.

After a month into an extended four to five month cross-country overlanding adventure to do photography, I camped for a night in Oregon near the Idaho border. This is public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). It was a short distance away from Homedale, Idaho, where I was going to visit relatives the next day. The day time temperature was in the low 90s and the overnight low temperature was 65 in early July.

Per Wikipedia, "The Owyhee Mountains are a mountain range in Owyhee County, Idaho and Malheur County, Oregon. Mahogany Mountain and the associated volcanic craters of the Lake Owyhee volcanic field are in the Owyhee Mountains of Oregon just east of the Owyhee Reservoir on the Owyhee River."

Very late in the season for tornadic supercells but we had some this day. Good Friend and fellow Chaser Myles Nelson, it was his birthday. So to celebrate we had to get a game plan on.

Night before there was none predicted for any severe storms, but mother nature had different plans. Waking up, and checking the morning model scans we had a much different story. We planned accordingly and things panned out for us to follow the first storms to pop to the east of Hastings Nebraska.

This cell packed to early punch but eventually faded out by Bruning Nebraska. Luckily the 2nd cell we had been monitoring just to the south of Hastings was maturing and had the all the right stuff. We scooted west to get into position. Then via Hwy 14, just south of Nelson Nebraska was our first TVS marker, and a scans showed a decent hail core developing. We were in luck as this storm was building and maturing fast.

Once this first event was on top of us, we positioned south and east of Superior Nebraska via Hwy 8 to do it again. Where we met up with several other chasers that were on the hunt. Good to see good friends again as this cell was again in a maturing stage producing come incredible cloud to cloud and cloud to ground lightning.

Eventually we had to punch through the core via west of Superior as we again head south into Kansas via Hwy 14. East of Mankato Kansas we ran into the 3.5 inch hail core next to Formoso Kansas and we had to stay ahead of this to stay out of the core. North of Courtland Kansas the cell was on our tail and we were in the notch. Surreal cloud structure could be seen as we had pushed east.

West of Scandia we ended up in a Tornado Warning was it had push up right against us. A Train had blocked out route east and it got a little never racking. Though the train eventually passed an we were able to escape the worst part of the storm. Ending up just to the west of Scandia Kansas were we experienced 3 inch hail. I have a few new dents but we decided wisely not to go any further due to the rain rapped tornado in this storm. Got by a building and had some protection from the winds and hail.

It was the end of the video's chase day and another tale to tell in my storm chasing adventures for 2019!

*** Remastered Series***

****

Editors Note...

Once a year a pull out a few sets from years past to start of the new year. In 2024 this year I have went back & revamped one of my favorite severe storms photo shoots of 2018

Back then I over colorized & over saturated the images. Pixelated & not my best work... Images were what I wanted but not the final product. If you want to see those to compare to these remastered images... here is your Flickr Link to that set of images...

But these are Gems of Gems.. I've even added about 50+ images in this set that I wasn't able to work on back in 2018. I even made a video with the old images to kick off the 2023 season... You can watch this right here on Flickr... Click Here ** Please remember I used the old images in this video **

Lightning is my forte... It is why I chase storms. To have an photo opportunity come up like this & traveled only 6 blocks from my home to get these pics...Gotta Luv Nebraska!

About that evening...

An epic night of sunset light and storm light @ twilight. Its almost every storm chasers dreams... or at least, in my own opinion, to get along side of a storm like this, as its firing away some incredible CC & CG every few seconds. What more could you ask for...

I was that Lucky Guy that evening. Just mother nature and I. Close to home after a few long storm chasing jaunts is just fine by me. She was producing and I was capturing every incredible second of this storm.. No Forking Bolt went away that evening without me getting a snap of its presence..
