Stuff the Chinatown Kid. Sounds like a whole lot to unpack, but he's surprisingly not as huge a pile of racist stereotypes as you'd imagine. He's the sidekick of the original Vigilante (the cowboy one, not the ski goggles one) and is, well, a kid from Chinatown. He knows a bunch of forms of martial arts - because of course he does - and even trained Vigilante in a few of them. He's the sort of character who could be really interesting if an actual Chinese-American reworked him, but as-is is nowhere near DC's most insensitive stereotype, which is pretty unexpected 😅
The legs here actually have a little too much going on with the darker green, but I didn't to sacrifice the boots.
Dec. 8, 2024: A Black Phoebe sits with a stuffed animal at Pepper Tree Playfield in Newbury Park, California.
Every December, teddy bears and other stuffed animals return to Pepper Tree Playfield in Newbury Park, California. I spotted about 20 - mostly teddy bears - this morning hiding in the trees at the park's West end. Hopefully, many more will arrive in the next two weeks. This annual migration ends on Christmas Day.
This December is the fourth year of this annual migration.
This was taken a couple months back during Photoshop World in Las Vegas. On our way to drop off Verent (one of RRS’s engineers) 500px.com/verent at the airport we noticed the Vegas sky was BLOWING UP. We said a very quick goodbye and sped up to the parking structure. I was pretty amazed we didn’t catch any grief from the security guard as we rushed by with tripods in hand. I guess we looked innocent enough and our saying, “We’ll only be a couple minutes,” (when we really meant a good hour or so…) was all the cushion we needed to wait for the good light.

For not knowing I was doing a bracket series of him he sure stayed pretty still composing his shot.

All and all a great trip, solid learning experience and one of the better nights of shooting I’ve had.
This set of 3 brackets went through Photomatix 4.1, Lightroom 3, Nik Color Efex Pro 3, Viveza and OnOne’s Perfect PhotoSuite6. That sounds like a ton but bringing all the layers into OnOne makes the whole process so fast.
Thanks for looking!
One of numerous stuffed animals we've bought for our dogs over the years, most of which have gone totally ignored.
Taken for the "Smile on Saturday!" theme of 12/2/2023: STUFFED ANIMAL.

Growing up in Pickens, I can whole heartedly say the Doodle is the reason for my love of trains. From my grandfather working for them back in the day, to passing it everyday parked at the old shops on the way to and from school, the doodle was just about a daily part of my life. I’m pained to see the state in which the city stuffed & mounted the Doodle, but I’m also glad its saved and hopefully will spur on another young rail buff. (12-8-20)
