I used a disco strobe light that my old DJ housemate left behind (excellent find!) when he moved out. I experimanted with different shutter speeds and different strobe speeds, and the editing is mostly to contrast to give more definition to the outline.
My sister and cousin in the yard playing basketball and football. Used a Canon 580 ex II flash as 1/2 power with Canon battery pack for the basketball pictures with pocket wizards.
Fired a strobe twice in 2 seconds with a two second long exposure.
The strobe light was to the top right of the model and a I had 4 foot circular reflector about 3 feet behind him on the left. He was a about 10 feet from a wall which wasn't being lit by the strobe. Between strobe fires the room was 100% black.
The only photoshop was adjusting the colors on the raw image and some sharpening, the overlay was achieved by the lighting.
Strobist info: bare Interfit 200 flash heads camera left and right. Bright ambient sun through clouds.
Post info: Lucis Whyeth and high pass sharpening.
Eppendorf tube filled with dry ice with sound trigger. Original plan was to have the dry ice explode the tube completely, but the condensation prevents a good image.
I did not have a trigger so this was taken with the flash on camera. I bounced the flash from a white ceiling and in some cases I used a gold diffuser.
Did a slightly impromptu shoot with Mike, so that I can have photos to give to his mom next Christmas.
Shot on Fomapan 100, I've only tried their 400 before, but I kind of liked the tones, though it looks a little off to me. Meh, I'll fiddle around with it.
AB800 lighting shrubs, walls, and walkways, YN560IV's lighting the trees, roof, and grass.

My first testing of remote flash and hommade snoot/gridspot for the upcomming Strobist Boot Camp.
Camera is a Canon 400D with the 430EX II sitting on the floor. Still so much to learn about it all!!
The only photoshop work was cropping and slight level tweek. Does anyone know if this is allowed in the world of the Strobist?
Luke brought his strobe lights to the Ames Camera Club meeting tonight to demonstrate it. I was able to take a couple of shots. It was pretty cool. This isn't the greatest photo but I am starting to understand the benefits of decent lighting. I think I know what I may be saving up for next. The highlights of the meeting was everyone getting to try out the setup with our camera. The low light was watching Luke's camera bouncing across the floor (sorry Luke). Luke, thanks for bringing you equipment.
