We had a fairly strong storm come through this morning. I had to stop along the road and get a shot. The clouds were awesome. The wind is captured in the movement of the weeds and trees. It was raining just a little when I captured this. It really started pouring just a couple of miles down the road.

I know that storm petrels are never popular but I wanted to upload this as an interesting "birders' bird". It is a Least Storm Petrel (Hydrobates microsoma), which is the smallest member of the petrel family on the planet and even smaller than the tiny Storm Petrel we get in Britain. Least Storm Petrel only breeds in islands off the Baja peninsula, mainly off the east side in the Sea of Cortez, though they wander more widely outside the breeding season. Within their restricted area they are not easy to see, and near impossible to photograph. Although I have visited this area several times I only occasionally see Least Storm Petrel, and this is the first time I have ever managed to get a recognisable photograph of one. In the Sea of Cortez they seem to be massively outnumbered by the larger Black Storm Petrel (H. melania). Apart from being smaller, Least Storm Petrel has a diagnostic wedge-shaped tail, which is very different from the deeply forked tail of Black Storm Petrel.

It's storm season again and Solaris is bursting with energy. She adores a good storm and I'm guessing we will be having a lot now that she's learning to master her gifts.

This is the second huge storm this week..
Okay, this picture was made 7 minutes before the second storm began. I'm living in Gendringen, 10km from Vethuizen. And in Vethuizen was the storm that heavy, there was a tornado too! So we were so lucky it didn't came here..
In Vethuizen at the campingsite one women died when the caravan were she was in was blown into the water which was nearby. And 5 electricity masts came down..
In the Netherlands we don't have such weather circumstances, so it was pretty scary.

These are not good photos by any stretch of the imagination but I just had to pull over on the way home to try to photograph the big storm cloud I just drove through. These are just side of the road grab shots straight out of camera (with obviously the laborious curse of every 5D Mark 1 owner, cloning of the ever present dust bunnies).
