OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I saw this amazing cloud over Johannesburg just before sunset today and just had to upload it. Unfortunately I only had my cellphone camera with me.

Does anyone know what type of cloud this is?

Along the great Ocean road , the rain and hail for a short while was just incredible so when we came to this vista point it was a great photo opportunity to the remains of the storm.

While the tornado risk was much better for northern Pennsylvania on this day, I decided to stay closer to home hoping that I would get lucky enough for a good storm or two to form just east of the mountain range out here. While I didn't see any of the tornadoes Pennsylvania had, I couldn't be happier with what I got. A small cell formed over Three Springs, Pennsylvania, and slowly matured as it made its way eastward towards my location. By the time it made its way over the mountains, it became severe warned and a mean looking meso began to form. I made my way just south of Newville as this storm became even stronger, and by the time I found a good vantage point, it had matured into a mean looking supercell. I watched it spin over the amish farmland, and after about half an hour or so, it weakened and died out. Another cell fired up behind the now dead supercell, and this storm had beautiful tilted updraft towers with lightning popping out like crazy. I sat there, my hand on my shutter as I waited for bolts to pop out. The storm began to die quickly and bolts only popped out about every minute. I started losing hope that I wouldn't get any lightning once again, however, this storm was nice enough to wave a final goodbye as it popped out a beautiful cg strike from out of the rain just for me, and low and behold, I managed to snag it. Overall, this day was great, and it felt like I was out on the plains for a little while. Anyways, hope you enjoy!

Tornado Warning - June 18, 2015

Storm Franklin was still blowing as an electric bus speeds along Stratford Road with a helpful tailwind. A large branch had crashed from a tree in Cambria Court, the debris is strewn across the pavement.

Columbus, OH. Storm was coming up in the horizon.

The southern storm was looking like a typical prairie storm at this point.

Here's another shot of some storm clouds. Obviously.

Stopped at the side of the road to get this shot of these fast moving clouds. This was 10 to 12 miles from #Goderich, Ont. Learned later an F3 tornado touched down there abut 1/2 hr. after. (Only 5% of tornados in Canada are F3.)

Crazy cloud front before thunderstorms hit last night.

There's a storm brewing over Strangeways, viewed from Manchester Victoria station looking towards the Boddington's Brewery. Birmingham R C & W Co. Class 104 unit No.53463 and Swindon Class 120 unit No.51581 face each other in the platform on 17th February 1986.

A storm approaches over the Gardon River, in the Gard département of southern France

A summer storm over southern England 2007 with cloud lightning and thunder more often seen (and heard) in tropical and sub-tropical areas of the world. Another lightning strike which appeared to be cloud to cloud. Unfortunately the main lightning stroke being so bright has lost detail.

On the hunt for a Cobra assassin. This Storm Shadow is beyond classic he's down right iconic. I played with this guy all the time. This guy is pretty minty fresh looking because this is the second one I got the fist one is pretty hurting.

20150910_8237_1D3-24 Storm #3

A southerly storm that ripped through Christchurch this afternoon. Temperature fell from over 18°C to under 10°C in about five minutes.

An impressive storm front moved through the Gold Coast. Lifeguards were calling out to people over a loudspeaker to exit the surf due to the approaching storm. All the while, some people were unfazed - kicking a ball (bottom-left), some overseas tourists were taking self-shots with the storm as back drop (bottom-right). In the end, it was fairly innocuous - we just got very brief rain (thankfully). I feel for others in SW Qld who were recently flooded.

This is a stitching of 3 handheld shots. The result is not perfect (I had to do some minor but tedious fixups) but overall result is a faithful impression. Final image size: 7841 x 4506 pixels. The stitching software has not retained the EXIF so I'll add it here: M9 + Zeiss ZM 21mm, ISO: 160, Aperture: f/8, Shutter: 1/45 (leftmost image 1/125).

First real spring storm of the season.

Barn in Canola field. I got lucky with a magnificent storm cloud that moved in as I was setting up and graciously waited until I finished to start the downpour.

While I did get my camera soaked during this storm, I did get a few pretty cool shots out of it. This was taken from Liberty Island, which, despite the huge number of tourists that visit (many of whom carry expensive electronics), has surprisingly few places to hide from the weather.

See a darker, more ominous version here.
