This is a side shot of the previous storm picture. This cell kept growing and eventually moved east towards Montreal
Glorious bouquets and storms of applause are the trimmings which every artist naturally enjoys.

Took a ride up to Buttonwood Farms in Griswold, CT this past Saturday evening. This is the third year we have gone up to photograph the sunflower fields they grow for charity. They plant a huge field that is a foreground smack dab in the front of sunset sky. So all that's required for some good images is a sprinkle of good ol Mother Nature's handiwork to complement the pretty foreground with interest in the sky.
Things were not looking promising about 40 minutes prior to this storm passing through. Skies were hazy grey, the sun was not poking through.
But then, a storm built out in the distance and produced this interesting backdrop of rain bands and faint lightning that lasted a good 15-20 minutes. (as most storms are wont to do in CT, they come here to die, and they die fast!).
The sunflowers are up the rest of this week and this coming weekend, so if you have an interest in shooting this be mindful of the weather, clouds are definitely needed for this scene.

A spring storm clears in evening light, San Luis Obispo County.
Late in the day had travelled across the main valley of the Carizzo Plain to a location that I thought would bring good evening light form the west. It had been a day of mixed and changeable weather conditions — sunlight one moment, rain the next, and patterns of both speeding across the landscape. My plan was to stake out a location open to the sunset light and hope for the best. It turned out OK, though clouds stood between me and the light and it never really did light up where I was standing.
However, because I was up against the mountains of the Temblor Range I had a bit of elevation, just enough to gain a wider view of the landscape. As sunset approached, breaks appeared in the cloud cover on the far side of the valley, and I was able to use a long lens to pick out vignettes from this larger landscape. This photograph makes in clear that I was shooting from the shadows, so to speak — look at the dark valley, broken by sky light reflected in water. But beyond that a newly green springtime ridge was in the sun, with beams of golden light coming through the clouds.

This cloud eventually produced a tornado alert at Limon Road in Topeka, Kansas. There was rotation but no touchdown.
The lovely and fearless Erica Jay found herself in Montreal last month so we planned a shoot, and crazy weather be damned, we had that shoot! It involved waiting out a thunderstorm, driving about & hanging out barefoot in the middle of nowhere - all in all a pretty decent mini adventure!

Our area has been pounded by T-storms, tornados, flooding for several days-dangerous enough to have to cancel a planned retreat...As chance would have it,
that is the time some hybrid German irises I planted last year broke out into bloom...They took a beating! But some managed to weather the storm...
Cloud formations over a lake in Masuria during a storm. Seeing these clouds forming we quickly headed towards the closest port and managed to belay and secure the yacht. The storm started about ten minutes after we made the decision, but it could have been much quicker.

The rain never made it to shore. A work trip for me.

Mayakoba started as a vision; a dream inspired by its blue skies and its emerald beauty defining an ‘unique’ destination in the Riviera Maya. A team of talented biologists, architects and designers persisted in the preservation of the flora and fauna of Mayakoba resort surrounded of sweet water lagoons; and succeeded. Six miles of freshwater canals surrounded by exotic mangroves and birds connect three enchanting hotels; Banyan Tree, Rosewood, Fairmont and a spectacular 18 hole Greg Norman golf course. Guests are peacefully transported in boats through the resort contemplating a revolutionary vision of beauty and harmony.
