Late August and I wasn't chasing this day... In fact I was preparing to head out to the east coast to catch up with Hurricane Dorian.
Just few blocks from my home here in Kearney Nebraska with no warnings issued this was creaping in from the west northwest. This thunderstorm didn't become severe until it passed over the city of Kearney. But as it approached... the sky was talking and I was listening...
I couldn't resist! With camera in hand I was out to capture a few hundred pics of what was in front of me. A wicked good photographic Nebraska stormscapes and some epic Nebraska Thunderheads!

A shot from the other day of the storm clouds rolling in. Unfortunately, we are still under a very rainy sky. But, that's just fine, because we really needed the rain!
It's a rare occasion for me to go out in a storm by myself but this May night, it had to be that way. Jon had gotten called out for work so I was left to my own devices. As you can tell, I am not smart enough to not stand in the middle of the highway for long exposure photography. Lucky for me, traffic was pretty much non-existent at this time of night (after midnight).
Lightning photography has been a struggle for me this year.

Following the cell north, I would eventually call it a day when the storm picked up steam and there was no way I was going to catch back up to it. But it was a day to remember!

I stepped out my back door to take some photos of lightning. This storm was between twenty and thirty miles north of my home. I only heard very faint rumbles of thunder.

Wow... What a day for Storm Chasing Photography & Videography!
Epic Structure and close to home... Gotta LUV Nebraska!
We made it back to Kearney for a few snaps of what remained of the storm. Which resulted in this final double rainbow.
How sweet was this to end the day!

From my balcony this afternoon. It has been a rather warm and humid day, but the storm really cooled things down.
(Next door's Desert Rose is always nice to look out on).

A dramatic sky filled with dark, swirling clouds dominates the scene above a vast open field, hinting at an approaching storm. A lightning bolt is faintly visible in the horizon, adding to the atmospheric tension.

On the Last Stormchase of the Summer. I had to make this one count. First chase in my new truck. I couldn't have asked for a better Nebraska Stormscape Scenario!
Found and open spot just to the south of Merna Nebraska. Had the perfect view and this thunderstorm was talking!
Loaded all the gear out and started my thing. This truly would become one of my best photographic outings for storms in 2020. Glad I made the effort to go. In spite I just had major surgery 3 days before!

What an afternoon of storms in Windsor. Earlier I tried to follow a storm but couldn't get in front of it. Later another storm appeared and this time it was almost overhead. I drove up the street to a park to get a better view of the glowing orange sky. It was raining lightly but I persisted with an umbrella. I managed to capture this 6 photo panorama. Quite the bizarre sky and storm!

What was an Epic day of Storm and Sky on the Eastern Plains of Colorado.
We had a late start to get to our destination of Goodland Kansas that afternoon. Though with that said we did see one Landspout / Tornado just to the south of Burlington Colorado. Of couse we would have luv'd to see some of the naders about 100 miles to our west but we didn't plan this one out correctly to do so.
Bumped into Legendary storm chaster Danial Shaw from Down Under... as he pulled up next to us shortly after we got there. I pretty sure he caught what we could see south of Burlington up close and personal.
Storm went outflow dominate as it squeezed its way into northwest Kansas. We ended this days chase between St. Francis and Bird City Kansas.
