[Victoria Park is one of the oldest communities in Calgary, dating back close to 100 years. In this area of the community it is slowly being allowed to fall apart, building by building, to allow for future expansion of the Calgary Stampede grounds, another area of the community is now being flattened - by Spring 2006, saving only a few heritage buildings]
"This dome, of ribbed reinforced concrete, was conceived by the architect N. G. Peebles, with structural design by John Monash using the patented Monier Reinforcing System. It was built by Swanson Bros, using a differnt patented reinforcing system designed by the Trussed Concrete Steel Company of London. On its completion in 1911, it was the largest such dome in the world, and of world renown. It reflects the high level of structural engineering skills of the designers and their confidence in the then new reinforced conrete technology."

State Capitol, SLC, UT
The first capitol building of Utah was built in Filmore, but it was only used for that purpose for one year. Later the Salt Lake City Council Hall served as meeting place for the legislature. The statehood was granted to Utah in 1896.
The Salt Lake City and County Building served as the capitol building until 1916, the year when the present building was finished.
The Capitol, which is 404 feet (123 m) long, 240 feet (73 m) wide was built between 1912 and 1916. The granite of the building and the copper of the dome are both from Utah. An extensive and expansive reconstruction took place between 2004 and 2008.
In the movie Legally Blonde 2 Utah State Capitol was used for exterior and interior shots of the U.S. Capitol.

Circa 1977. This wrecked Mazda RX-4 wagon was donated to the school. The Automotive Engineering class used it in a project to turbocharge its Wankel rotary engine.
The story we were told regarding this vehicle was that in the course of merging with freeway traffic, this vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer rig which literally ran over it. I don't recall seeing a great amount of blood within the vehicle, so I suspect that the driver was not injured seriously.
