Artist Statement:
The Labor of Being explores the quiet violence of systems that promise autonomy while rehearsing control. The figures are uniform not because they are identical, but because difference has been made inefficient. Each body performs a task, a gesture, a role—yet none are singularly visible.
The work exists in the tension between motion and obedience. The tools are heavy, precise, and necessary, but never owned. Identity here is not erased; it is managed. The illuminated phrase, SUBJECT SELF-DEFINED, functions less as a declaration and more as a question—can self-definition survive within a structure that requires compliance to function?
This piece is part of my ongoing investigation into how contemporary identities are shaped, optimized, and quietly disciplined under the guise of progress. I am interested in the moment where participation becomes indistinguishable from surrender—and whether awareness itself can still be an act of resistance.

The Xhurch's 'Christmas Nativity' took place on December 23rd, 2010, between the hours of 5 and 8pm, at the Xhurch, in Portland, OR.
The Xhurch is a small repurposed church in Portland, OR that has been remade into a home studio/gallery/event space.

Make your own fashion statement. I'm all about making a statement. If you have time, I highly recommend creating some Wilshire Warrior Rompers for the coaching staff and GMs. The Hawaiian team coaches wore sarongs and gave out pooka beads after games. Other teams did something similar based on where they were from. Also, the team should get involved as well. Since we are from California, you should have them meditate on the field instead of warming up. LOL. I had to throw in my sense of humor on this.
The residents all got a kick out of Mercy's outfits this weekend. I explained that the shirts were to cover her incision, but most of them thought she should continue to wear them even after she's healed :))
Note-Grids are a tool for collecting and connecting objects of thought (in this case, words).
They treat words and other manifestations of thought as objects that can be freely manipulated to create new meaning.
They break meaning up into individual words to facilitate a more fluid, intuitive, and improvisational approach to knowledge production.

Artist Statement
For this project, I decided to make a logo and business card for my future design studio.
I wanted to convey that this would be a studio in which designs that would be considered "out there" or "not of this world" would come out of. So I had to design a logo that would say the same. That's why I chose to use the phrase "Space Cadet" as the name of my studio to highlight the fact that the work coming from this place would be other-worldly.
I made an original character to be the focal point of the design and set it above of the name of the studio. I gave the character a "dumb guy" expression to play with the fact that the phrase "space cadet" is also a derogatory phrase meaning to call someone stupid. This was to give the logo a more comedic flare.
I used a bright green instead of using colors that are traditionally associated with outer space as my main color because it once again reinforced the idea of being unpredictable.
