But it still bothers me when these things aren't applied with the points sticking down. In the Jesus Fish orientation or skewed to make the text horizontal, it just looks wrong, that's all.

Where in the world did that statement come from? I mean, I am actually very Irish and very proud of it. but "Kiss me, I'm Irish" ??
It's actually a joke the Irish made up for fun! It really has no meaning but people often use it, as a joke as the Irish do!
It is reference to the Blarney Stone. Kissing the Blarney stone brings you good luck so if you can't kiss the stone the next best chance of getting good luck is "kissing an Irish person."
Strange but true, if you believe in luck. =)

Dr. Bonnie Henry, British Columbia’s provincial health officer, has issued the following statement about the end of respiratory illness season:
“Based on the most recently released data from public-health partners at the provincial and federal level, including yesterday’s respiratory illness season update from the BC Centre for Disease Control, I am officially declaring an end to the 2024-25 respiratory illness season. This means additional measures implemented in health-care settings are no longer required. The standard that requires use of personal protective equipment and additional precautions based on point-of-care risk assessment remains in place.

This piece speaks in the language we recognize instantly: persuasion.
“You know you want this” is not an invitation—it’s an assumption. It echoes advertising, addiction, desire, and the quiet agreements we’re taught to make without realizing we’ve agreed at all.
The setting is deliberately ordinary. Nothing here is dramatic. Nothing is hidden. That is where the tension lives. Desire rarely announces itself as danger; it presents itself as comfort, routine, reward.
I am interested in how choice is framed—how often longing is pre-written for us, rehearsed, marketed, and repeated until it feels like our own voice. This work doesn’t accuse the viewer; it implicates them gently, honestly.
This is not about excess.
It is about familiarity.

Pre finish - Once stain has dried for a couple of days apply a sanding sealer. Zinsser Seal Coat Universal sanding sealer. This creates a good base for the laquer finish and brings out the deep rich color nicely. Spray version avaliable but I used the liquid with a wide paint applicator. One coat, do not over brush, watch for drips. Let dry over night, sand lightly with 320 black sand paper. Wipe with tack cloth, then with cloth dampened with denatured alcohol.

This statement is on the back of each of the cards. Brenda de Northcote. Thee artist borrows heavily from well-known portraits from European art history, predominantly Gothic and the Italian Renaissance. She personalises the borrowed portraits by superimposing the head of her bull terrier Minnie the Moocha, and the images have emerged from the unlikely marriage of her twin loves of painting and her canine muse.

Tribal looking cast metal statement necklace. Focal point is a cast metal connector with faux snakeskin accents and olive green acrylic gem in the center. Tiny gunmetal colored copper chains drift from behind the focal point. Transparent green faceted glass beads and gray crystal pearls connect the focal to a large double link chain. An silver plated copper lobster claw clasp finishes the piece. Surprisingly lightweight. Very tribal looking.

Painted on the old harbour lighthouse you may think this is simply a statement but it is [apparently] an artwork. The wording, ‘Weather is a Third to Place and Time’, has been taken from Ian Hamilton Finlay’s published writings, a British artist active in the second half of the last century whose work encompassed a variety of different media and discourses. Common to all of Finlay’s diverse production is the inscription of language – words, invented or borrowed, phrases and other semiotic devices – onto real objects and thus into the world. The notion is that ‘Weather is a Third to Place and Time’ is a practical reminder of how important the weather is to all who work at sea. An explanation of the artwork also suggests how the weather – onto which we tend to project our moods – colours in and gives meaning to the two dimensions of our normal self-awareness: place and time.
And weather is of course an important factor in the success or otherwise of all those small independent food outlets that have opened on the harbour arm hoping to make a profit. Stuck out in the English Channel you become well acquainted with the current weather conditions, and most of the outlets have only outside seating…
