Statement from artist Steve Heller, "I began making sculpture as a kid, but I went into full-on production in 1987, when my father died. He called himself an antique dealer, but in reality he was a junk collector. My mother asked me to help remove the piles of metal that had accumulated over the years, and on the way to the dump, I looked in the rear view mirror and realized I was about to throw away a gold-mine. I began welding in earnest that summer and have found that my father had a great eye! My sculptures have appeared around the world and my Stargate sculpture is part of the permanent collection at The American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore."

This statement necklace combines a repurposed pendant with vintage rhinestones and upcycled beads to create a on of a kind piece of jewelry. The reclaimed vintage clasp features two crystals. This moves into a segment of silvertone chain and then vintage rhinestone chain. Next the necklace features clear crystals and faux black pearls which complement the clear vintage rhinestone marquise crystals that draw the eye to the navy blue repurposed focal pendant glistening with clear stones. Themed “Unlocking the Promise of Social Entrepreneurship,” this year’s edition shows how a flurry of new social entrepreneurship ventures is finding innovative solutions addressing critical societal issues.
Held at WIPO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, the launch event featured presentations of key findings, a panel discussion, and high-level opening statements.

“On the afternoon of Feb. 10, 2026, an entire community was forever changed and multiple families who call Tumbler Ridge home received the catastrophic news that their loved ones had lost their lives.
“The news that an individual had killed two adults and six children in a private residence and a local secondary school quickly spread across national and international media. With that, came passionate public discussions about mental health and possible gaps in support systems.
“It is with this in mind that I have reflected on the BC Coroners Service’s responsibility to reinforce confidence in the system and support public safety in British Columbia when it comes to all sudden, unnatural and unexpected deaths, and all children’s deaths.
“That is why, pursuant to Section 18 of the Coroners Act, I am directing a coroner’s inquest to publicly review the circumstances that led to nine individuals losing their lives in Tumbler Ridge on Feb. 10.
“An inquest will provide an independent and transparent forum to publicly examine the circumstances surrounding the deaths, assess systemic and procedural issues, and make evidence-based recommendations aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future. Importantly, it will involve the participation of the people in British Columbia through a jury of five to seven people.
“My sincere and heartfelt condolences go out to the families who have lost their loved ones. The grief they are experiencing at this time is unimaginable. Over this course I have acquired and explored new methods including printmaking and traditional black and white photography. The influences in my work stem from the local landscape of rivers, trees, flowers and fells. I often holiday in the Scottish highlands, which is secluded and wild. From this I created the series of prints and collagraphs, which was also specifically inspired by, and draws on the work of Norman Ackroyd.
Nostalgia is often an aspect I build into my work, particularly within photography. Photos capture memories and moments that would otherwise have been lost. Equally through my drawings and paintings I attempt to reflect timeless beauty in my surroundings that would otherwise be forgotten.
Art is primarily visual but the inspiration behind it isn’t necessarily, and so through my work I aim to capture beauty and reflect my personal faith in ways other than words.
I chose to apply to Central St Martins because of its urban, lively, busy culture that would bring a diverse change of influences and inspiration. I know that the opportunities offered by the course will help to achieve my full potential as I aspire to develop my creativity. Currently, what I enjoy most about textiles is drawing and building up exciting ranges of design ideas. I hope to learn a lot more about textile processes and find the direction that suits me best.
