Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has signed, in Edmonton on April 20, 2026, a joint statement with the Republic of Korea’s Customs Commissioner, Myeong-ku Lee, to waive a three per cent tariff for Alberta crude exports to South Korea.
The joint statement between Alberta’s government and the Korea Customs Service of the Republic of Korea confirms diluted bitumen shipped from Canada qualifies as a Canadian-origin product, removing a key trade barrier and improving access for Alberta energy producers.
In 2025, Alberta exported almost $400 million in crude oil to South Korea, up more than 500 per cent year over year, driven by expanded pipeline access. With tariffs removed, exports could grow between $400 million and $1 billion annually, depending on refinery demand. This strengthens demand for Alberta energy, supports jobs and investment at home, and provides Korea with a reliable, responsibly produced source of crude as it diversifies its energy supply. Global Bank joins Catholics around the world in mourning the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.
It is with great sadness that I have learned of His Holiness Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI’s passing on December 31, 2022; who died at the Vatican after a lifelong dedication to prayers and interreligious dialogue, Mr Ron Nechemia said in a statement issued on Saturday. He was 95 at the time.
We express our heartfelt condolences to the Catholic faithful worldwide, the Holy See, and others who were inspired by his life of prayer and interreligious understanding, as well as for promoting tolerance and harmony among people of different faiths.
Global Bank and the Holy See have found common ground on mutually beneficial international issues such as human rights, peace and conflict prevention, poverty eradication and development, environmental protection, and inter-religious understanding.
Mr Ron Nechemia said, “We pray for the eternal rest of His Holiness Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, who was a great spiritual leader and a guide to millions across the world, faithful to his vows, committed to his vocation, and conscientious in carrying out the duties of his office. He will be remembered as one of the greatest theologians of the 20th Century.”

Farming For Justice with Maurice Small, Strategist
Maurice Small, Food Strategist, works in communities of low wealth to make sure they are able to activate the wealth they have internally and that they have around them. Maurice provides tools communities need to have great food access, food health and food awareness.
Maurice Small is an independent consultant with 25 years of experience in urban/ rural food systems development, youth entrepreneurship training, and soil creation. Maurice inherited his profound respect and love for the earth from his parents. This love for natural process and growth nurtures his strong desire to build community as he teaches and cultivates regional visions for sustainable agriculture, healthy lifestyles in underserved communities & urban/rural collaboration between growers and vendors. His work to address the development of a more sustainable regional food system began in Northeast Ohio in 1988 with vacant lot reclamation, community garden creation, work with local after-school programs and volunteering with organizations to cultivate urban local food production.
His current contract work in North America address's urban and rural food system creation, food justice awareness programming and urban/peri urban soil production with worms.

Statement
Manierre Dawson (American, 1887–1969)
Date: ca. 1913
In his journal (January 1913), Dawson tried to explain the "peculiar feelings" that his abstract paintings evoked: "awe, mystery, reverie (I can't find the words). Whatever they are, these feelings are produced entirely by shapes and colors that are not those of any visible or external objects." While his shapes and colors may have been non-representational, his imagery was not entirely abstract. Here, as in many of his paintings of the period, Dawson incorporated figurative elements. In the center of the composition is the suggestion of a standing figure in profile, its angled and compact shape reminiscent of the African sculptures that inspired the French Cubist and German Expressionist painters circa 1905 to 1920 that Dawson could have seen in Europe or reproduced in periodicals.
Swiss Cottage Conservation Area was designated in November 1988, with the Conservation Area Statement adopted in 1995.
As with Belsize, this is an important example of mid 19th century speculative development on a grand scale, this time in red brick with finely detailed arts and crafts inspired decoration. Lush green front gardens and continuous runs of front boundary walls, with piers, posts and railings, as well as the gaps between houses and views into mature gardens contribute significantly to the area’s particular character.
More front gardens and boundary walls have been lost in Swiss Cottage than in the Belsize and Hampstead. Furthermore a significant number of properties originally had stained glass/leaded window and doors which are increasingly being removed, making the need for action more urgent than ever.
Conservation area at risk
Swiss Cottage has been designated by English Heritage as a ‘Conservation Area at Risk’. This means that it is in danger of losing its special character due to the removal of traditional features such as historic doors, windows, decorative details, green front gardens and ornate boundary walls.

Artist’s Statement

I planned my Real Me collage in a thirds grid. In the left corner I placed my desk because that is where I spend a lot of my time. Everything else on this collage sprouts from that desk. I put some of my favorite books on top of the desk with my favorite poem (Homer’s Illiad) most notable among them. Sprouting directly from the top of the desk I put images of ancient myths with multiple pictures of my favorite hero (Heracles, 3 in total) to show my interest in ancient cultured and their stories.
On the actual desk I piled an epic poem of my own that I have been working on for a little over two years, directly above this in the picture frame I put an image of the main character of this story. I put my hand on my work to show that it came from my own work. I put a spotlight leading from my work and hand, up through my other hand which is gesturing to the first two text boxes. The spotlight is meant to represent a path; this path leads from my story through Strength of Spirit and then Limitless Ambitions because my story is one of my ambitions that I have already achieved, then Strength of Spirit is placed in-between myself and Limitless Ambition because Strength of Spirit is one of the qualities that will lead me to achieve what I want. I made the Strength of Spirit the same color as the flames, comparing my spirit to fire.
I put the final three text boxes in a triangle with a cosmic purple background because they represent a more spiritual part of me. I placed Understanding and Acceptance below At One because I believe these two principals need to be present before you can be At One. I put At One in the center and at the highest point because that is something I see as quite important.
Statement from Birmingham Against the Cuts meeting 13th November 2010 hosted by Right to Work
This meeting takes place at a time of escalating resistance to the wholesale attack on working class people in this country
5,000 people outside the lib dems conference in Liverpool supported by the NW Regional TUC
7,000 people outside the Tory Party Conference supported by several National Unions and many local organisations
25,000 people at Scottish TUC demonstration aqgainst the comrehensive spending review
50,000 students and workers demnstrating in London this Wednesday backed by NUS and UCU
The student demonstration was a magnificent show of strength against the Con Dems’ savage attacks on education and the largest since David Cameron came to number 10. During the demonstration over 5,000 students showed their determination to defend the future of education by occupying the Tory party HQ and its courtyards for several hours.
We celebrate the fact that thousands of students were willing to send a message to the Tories that we will fight to win. Occupations are a long established tradition in the student movement that should be defended. It is this kind of action in France and Greece that has been an inspiration to many workers and students in Britain faced with such a huge assault on jobs, benefits, housing and the public sector.
In addition this meeting notes the fantastic protests and actions in Birmingham in recent months including:
7000 strong Right to Work demonstration against the Tory Party Conference backed by several national unions (up to 4000 of which attended were local)
The protest against the Comprehensive Spending Review initiated by the Peoples Charter, supported by Right To Work, Save Our Services, BTUC.
Over 30 students occupying and closing the Vodaphone store 2 weeks in a row over tax justice
We support the decision of the TUC to call a mass demonstration against the cuts in March.
We need more resistance to the ConDem government and Birmingham’s ConDem council in the lead up to this national march.
We need to engage the entire labour movement and build the widest possible unity between workers, students, the unemployed and communities.
We support the efforts being made to bring closer co-operation between these constituent parts with a view to forming a Birmingham wide Anti-Cuts Alliance. The Birmingham Trades Union Council initiative to draw together trade unions and campaigns is a welcome step toward this.

Artist Statement
There is a moment when movement stops being intentional.
It becomes consensus.
This work captures that moment not as clarity, but as blur. Figures cross together, not in unison, but in agreement. No one leads. No one resists. Individual outlines dissolve into momentum. The act of crossing becomes automatic, rehearsed, unexamined.
The strawberries remain not as invitation, not as landscape but as consequence. They sit heavy in the frame, textured, undeniable. While the bodies lose definition, the residue of desire becomes sharper. What we pursued collectively is the only thing that stays in focus.
I wanted the image to feel unstable, because certainty is unstable. When too many people move in the same direction for the same reason, motion accelerates while meaning erodes.
This is not a crossing toward something.
It is a crossing because everyone else is already doing it.
By the Time We All Agreed to Move is about the quiet surrender of authorship how choice dissolves into pattern, and how repetition creates safety at the cost of awareness.
For collectors, this work holds tension rather than resolution. It rewards extended looking, revealing new relationships between bodies, motion, and residue over time. It is meant to unsettle not through shock, but through recognition.
