I have long been fascinated with Art. Whether it involved adorning the inside of my garden shed with crayons when I was five or experimenting with different styles of drawing and painting, I was always inspired to create. This passion continued to grow with my GCSE Art course leading me to appreciate that a future within the Art world was the only option for me. Having enjoyed Art A-Level, I am now preparing for the next step with a foundation course to further my knowledge and understanding of the subject, through Art foundation.
A-level Art has not only allowed me to advance my general drawing and painting skills, but also has given me the opportunity to experiment with a wide range of media including clay and photography. I am drawn to Fine Art and have found myself being inspired by the more traditional styles such as Lisa Milroy’s paintings and William Kentridge’s sketches and also by the more abstract paintings of Francis Bacon. In my spare time I enjoy visiting art galleries both here and abroad.
My hobbies include self-taught guitar and I regularly attend tennis coaching. I am also a keen swimmer and am currently applying to train as a lifeguard. In school, I am a member of Senior Choir and have co-run Junior Art Club, where I encouraged the younger students. I have also taken part in the Young Enterprise Scheme, as Marketing Director of a company.
For my work experience, I visited a Graphic Design Studio and did photography for their website and designed a range of logos for a client. This allowed me to see the impact images can have on consumers.
I have just begun to develop my own style in Art and would love to have the opportunity to refine this further and broaden my knowledge through the completion of your foundation course.

I wanted to make my shirt for Dirty Laundry about money (surprise!) in some way. The stain that I chose was cherry juice. The cherry juice represents the mythical cherry tree that George Washington chopped down in his youth. I CAN NOT TELL A LIE. The cherry juice may also represent blood. The cherry juice is also very very sticky (fingers). Excited to draw all of the presidents (and the non president Franklin) represented on United States paper money, I cranked out our friends George, followed by Abe, Grant, Jackson, Hamilton (apologies go to Thomas Jefferson whose mug graces the two dollar bill...you are going to sit this one out buddy. I promise to draw you on my own time for personal pleasure).
The cherry juice was stenciled onto the fabric. It will eventually fade to a light pink, but pink and green look awesome together, so you win. The gold drips were stenciled on with gold fabric ink and the faces were printed with green fabric ink on my trusty gocco machine. GO GOCCO! The gold drips and the green faces will not fade and will stay strong forever. These colors will not run. Wait, I am getting my patriotic phrases confused.
Before sending them off into the hands of others, I rubbed all of the cash that I had on my person into the shirts: $14.24

I received the slides from 11 films I took during June 2012 while in Arlington, Massachusetts where my daughter, Maria and I had a gallery show of 76 of my matted and framed photographs and 29 of her art work from June 3-30, 2012. I have scanned 24 or so of them so far and have started editing them as well. This photograph was taken on June 5th of our artists' statements that were hung on the wall by the front table we sat at during the show. You can see the faint reflection on the glass of the statements of some of the photographs that were hung near them. My statement I just had to update and reprint while Maria's, since she has never previously shown any of her art work, we had to write, which we managed to do between us. Mine is on top and Maria's under it. I used my photo of Still Another Perspective on mine and two of hers, Color My World and Red as examples of our work.

The IAEA Event: Net Zero Needs Nuclear Power will highlight the crucial role of nuclear power as part of the energy mix. The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mr Rafael Mariano Grossi will announce the ‘IAEA Statement on Nuclear Power’ supported by 40 countries, both those already operating nuclear power plants and newcomers. Together these countries acknowledge that all available low-carbon technologies, including nuclear power, should be recognized, and actively supported. The Statement underlines the benefits of nuclear power, including that nuclear power plants produce no harmful greenhouse gas emissions; that nuclear energy contributes to energy security and the stability of power grids; and that it mitigates air pollution at a local level.

As a student of the UCA, I have worked in an environment where the possibilities of what I can conceive and realise in artworks have been greatly expanded. In this portfolio I want to show: a glimpse into my work-in-progress; my independent thinking and my ambition for projects that go beyond the academic minimum. Alongside coursework, this portfolio contains self-initiated explorations under the theme ‘Death of The Author’. In this process, I am discovering how intention can be relinquished in the face of an audience, and how as an artist I absolve myself from the process of creating.
I am interested in art that isn't subjective to the artist’s idioms, beginning with Koons’ vacuum cleaners, exemplified in Hirst’s work, and most recently with Weiwei’s expansive ‘ensemble’ sculptures. I see art to be continually moving away from craftsmanship and a means of personal expression, to a more manufactured way of creating characterised by a more universal code of reflection towards common subject matter. One of my favourite artists is Picasso, though it is said of artists like him that all his work is self-portraiture. I am exploring how to absolve the idiosyncrasies of my work, and let my subjects speak for themselves, as in Warhol’s famous 4d film portraits.
I have done this with my random circle canvases, where the responsibility of composition was given to a computer. Other works try to update the artworks that I love to the environment that I feel I live in – such as the woodblock-inspired, digital-looking Geisha painting, and the marble-statue-esque mannequin, revered for her consumerist example of what a customer’s body should/could look like. In these pieces I am looking at how to find balance in communicating a message; the explicitness with which I should express my themes; the simplicity that I should exercise to make it aesthetic and accessible; and retaining specificity within the simplicity, to make sure I don’t compromise clarity.
I have a broad range of influences and interests, and although I have developed an ability to resolve certain projects well, I have many unresolved components of my practice. The opportunity to study Fine Art Critical Practice at the University of Brighton, with its equal emphasis on the critical understanding of art as well as the practice, would seem ideally suited to the way I work. The fact that these disciplines benefit from being integrated by the same tutors is something that I think would be especially valuable for me.
I made this scarf last year… we don’t use scarves here that much as it isn’t cold enough even in winter You know how it is… I wanted a scarf, come hell or high water,
so I made this one with bamboo cotton mix to wear
when I went to the Sydney Crochet Coral Display…
We called it my ‘statement scarf’…
and arrogantly said if you need to ask what that means,
you won’t get it anyway… ha ha
A lady I met at the Display, told me I should call it that - she understood very well & said she had one, she wore in summertime just to make a statement... now who was I to contradict a 75 year 'worldly wise', 'young at heart', beautiful soul of a woman...
As part of the 2021 Fall Economic Statement, the Ontario government will introduce legislation that, if passed, would raise the general minimum wage from $14.35 to $15.00 per hour effective January 1, 2022. Under the proposed changes, the special minimum wage rate for liquor servers would be eliminated and they would be entitled to the general minimum wage. Students under 18, homeworkers and hunting, fishing and wilderness guides would also see an increase in their special minimum wage rates.

Dans le cadre de sa mise à jour économique de l’automne 2021, le gouvernement de l’Ontario proposera un projet de loi qui, s’il est adopté, fera passer le salaire minimum général de 14,35 $ à 15,00 $ à compter du 1er janvier 2022. En vertu des modifications proposées, le salaire minimum des serveurs de boissons alcoolisées serait éliminé et ces derniers auraient droit au salaire minimum général. Les étudiants de moins de 18 ans, les travailleurs à domicile, ainsi que les guides de chasse, de pêche et d’aventure pourraient également voir une augmentation du taux de leur salaire minimum.
