Problem: Obviously bumped the tripod numerous times.
Long exposure at sunset for startrail but failed too much wind and a non coperative tripod...

Datant de 1899, cette ancienne centrale hydroélectrique fut contruite pour actionner les portes des écluses et éclairer le canal Soulanges.
--------------------------
Operation of the Soulanges Canal was powered by a small hydro electric generating station. Le Petit Pouvoir is located near the middle of the canal and provided power for the motorized lock gates, electrical operation of the swing bridges, and illumination for the entire length of the canal at night. It was the first canal in the world to have its entire passageway lit by night, allowing round-the-clock operation.[2] It opened in 1899 and remained in operation until 1958 when it was in turn superseded by an enlarged Beauharnois Canal which is now part part of the Saint Lawrence Seaway

Took advantage of being out in the middle of nowhere in Manitoba, away from any source of light pollution, and got the star trails thing mostly figured out. The only thing I screwed up was the hyperfocal distance so that the trees in the foreground were in focus.
238 exposures, 30 seconds each, using the interval timer in the D200; equivalent to about 2 hours. ISO100, f/2.8. The trees in the foreground were lit for a fraction of one shot using my flashlight.

I can't beleive how well this came out, it wasn't really going very well to start with : tripod fell apart in my hand, battery ran out, couldn't get it to keep taking pictures (all completely my fault) but eventually I got it to keep going for 40 minutes while I watched TV.
I didn't pick the most ambient-light-free-zone (my back garden) because I'm to lazy to walk a couple of hundred metres across the road to a dark place.
85 pictures at 30second exposure with f/5.6 and iso400 stacked using startrails.exe (I think the gap in all of the lines is where I deleted one where I was shining a torch at the lens to see if it was steamed up)
Which one of these is better B&W or colour? I think the red one but my dad prefers the B&W because "the red shouldn't be there, it's just street lights"
Star Trail Photography Trip, Startrail first try

An experiment with yesterday's startrail shots. Interesting pattern structure, high key, and grainy, so submitted to T189 alpahbet photo challenge, G for Grainy.
Blended photos in CS5 using Difference blend mode this time, then processed in Silver Efex Pro
