I wanted to check if it is possible to shoot a startrail picture in the middle of Paris.
Turns out that it is! with the bright stars of Ursula Major / the big dipper anyway. And some other flying stuff ✈ I will try again.
📷 Nikon D5200 and Tokina 11-20mm. About 30min of continuous shooting (20s exposure) Stacked with Startrail.exe
Clear night last night!!! Sadly nearly a full moon so not quite the gold standard for startrails, but nice to get a clear night. Met up with grant_r, and got somne good results. Sadly couldnt compose this with the polestar in it, but you do get a sense of the level of light pollution from Edinburgh - looks like daylight in the photo. Also met a couple of dudes as I was heading home with giant telescopes and they let me have a look at Jupiter, and a nebula in orion. Pretty fascinating stuff - saw the bands on jupiter and 4 of the moons.
Lots of light kicking around, so this is 48 shots of 1 minute each blended in starstax. Exif below for the individual shots:

Exposure // 60s
Aperture // f/4.5
Focal Length // 18 mm
ISO Speed // 200

Digital Composite Photography
This is a composite/star trail stack of over 30 images. These images were taken at 30sec exposures every 35sec. The total duration of the timelapse lasted around one hour. I like this photo, especially the clarity/sharpness of the stars. I also really like the purple hue that seems to mask the entire image. However, I did have to do a lot of editing in order to darken the tower itself. Other than that, I believe this a very interesting and well composed star trail. I am very proud of it.

first attempt at startrails - this structure is stainless steel but the street lights give it a brass look

Star Trails image taken from my home this morning at
5:14 a.m.
Many stars were behind the clouds but some of them were quite brilliant.
I believe there is a shooting star in the center of the wheel. I saw one last night and another one this morning.
Thank you for your comments.

This picture was taken in June 2014 on a lookout point named King Kong Hill, overlooking the volcanoes in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. The nearest mountain in the centre is Mount Batok, the steaming crater on the left is Mount Bromo, and on the far is the erupting Mount Semeru. Mount Bromo sits inside the Tengger caldera of fine volcanic sand, with a diameter of approximately 10 km . The bright streaks of light at the caldera below a layer of fog were jeeps carrying tourists to lookout points to view sunrise. This star trails above the volcanoes were a combination of 270 images with a total exposure time of 2 hours and 15 minutes. All the stars rotate around the south celestial pole except of one that “did not behave” (a meteor near the centre right of the picture). The rising Moon brightened the landscape and made the sky bluish.
