Startrails from the images of this timelapse

I had a mess around with my camera while watching the stars on sunday. Processed using StarStaX and tweeked levels in photoshop.

Settings: ISO 1600

30 sec (127 shots)

f5.6

8mm Fisheye

Startrails / Sterrensporen in Ermelo, Netherlands. Picture taken with my Nikon D5100 + 18-105mm lens. 73 exposures of 30 seconds with f/8 and ISO 400. Exposure +2.0

40 minutes of the earth rotating.

96 shots stacked using Startrails.exe using the Fade-in processing.

25 seconds each, ISO 6400

Nikon D600

Rokinon 14mm f2.8 lens

If you wrap hand warmers around your lens that will keep the dew away. I use a lens muff with 3 pockets to hold the hand warmers - I only use 2 warmers and the dew stayed off my lens all through the night until morning. I got them from Kevin Adams Photography. Some people just put the hand warmers in a sock.

Stack of 177 images with 40 seconds exposure. Should actually just take star tracks, but did also get the aurora under the entire shoot. The tracks are not so long as the battery past out after 1 hour and 40 minutes

Startrail from drevsjo, Norway

15 min long exposure above my house

Novo tratamento para 197 registros em 25 seg. em ISO 800, EM F/2,8, Tokina ATX- 11/16.

Bridalveil campground, Yosemite.

This is my first attempt at a startrail. It consists of 200 images, each 40 seconds long with an aperture of F4.5 and ISO 400, which were stacked using 'startrails'. I also took a separate foreground image with the same aperture and ISO settings, but a longer exposure at 150 seconds. This was edited and added to the startrail image using Adobe Camera RAW and Photoshop.

I have also made a timelapse video which you can see here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRTk_cJQBTA

The camera used is a Sony NEX-5n, with the standard 16mm pancake lens, and the Sony Fisheye Converter. I found problems with this at first, as the camera doesn’t allow for a remote shutter release, but with the use of a smartphone app and a dismantled TV remote, I was able to save a lot of boredom and button pressing! bitshift.funpic.de

The location is in my garden, but now I am confident I know pretty much what I’m doing, I’ll venture out and find some better compositions! Watch this space...

This is an example image of my new Gimp Script "Startrails"

It can be used to create startrails videos.

V2 allows you to adjust some fadeout options.

il mio primo startrail

Star trails during the Perseid meteor shower. Shot on August 11, 2009 in Lafayette, IN.

About 120 separate 30-second exposures, stacked with startrails.exe

There is one meteor trail, starting at the bottom of the picture, a bit left of center and going up and to the left.

My first ever startrail

This is my first attempt at start trails. I guess I have a lot to learn yet. I really don't like the reddish color. Will try again. Tell me what you think and be honest

About 4 hours shooting stars, and twice the time to process the movie..

Yesterday night I drove out of town to do some startrails and star photography for the first time. It's very simple but you have to be patient to get a star trail that is long enough to look ;) This one was exposued for approx. 18 min.. I used the noise reduction of the D5100 that took almost as long as the exposure itself, but it really helps and I there were less hot pixels than without.

The view and composition are not very spectacular. Next time I will drive up the whole mountain or go somewhere else, but I think for the first time the result isn't bad.

If you have suggestions for improvements or want to know any details about the settings feel free to comment.
