Yesterday night I drove out of town to do some startrails and star photography for the first time. It's very simple but you have to be patient to get a star trail that is long enough to look ;) This one was exposued for approx. 18 min.. I used the noise reduction of the D5100 that took almost as long as the exposure itself, but it really helps and I there were less hot pixels than without.
The view and composition are not very spectacular. Next time I will drive up the whole mountain or go somewhere else, but I think for the first time the result isn't bad.
If you have suggestions for improvements or want to know any details about the settings feel free to comment.
Ok, now THIS startrail I love.
Roughly 3 hours at 30s exposure, I just left the camera with the shutter pressed with 3 matchsticks and a hair tie. Yes I'm proud of that.

With a half hour exposure I was able to capture some startrails.
2 hour startrails shot over Birnbeck Pier, Weston super-mare, UK. Up against clouds, planes, light pollution and the moon.
Trying a few shots around the old bowaters tower in Ellesmere Port
more or less impossible to get decent startrails around here due to all the industrial floodlighting :(
First experience in capturing star trails. Unfortunately, south celestial pole is a little bit out of frame. Colored track under the palm tree is an airplane.
Yeah... so... I forgot to turn off long exposure noise reduction... so it looks very ragged because there are nice gaps between the stars where the camera stopped to process images... DOH! I guess I have to go back now ;-)
22 stacked exposures, each with the following properties:
Canon 5D Mark II
Sigma 12-24mm @ 12 mm
1 min, f/4.5, ISO 6400

I did a test for star trails last night which turned out ok I think......I've ordered a light pollution filter to try and cut down on some of the city lights, so I'll have another play when that arrives.......I've also ordered a USB cable so that I can run the camera tethered to the computer and be able to capture more frames over a longer period of time........but not bad for the middle of a major city 👍
If anyone is interested.....

Canon EOS 7D + 15-85 IS USM at 15mm
Exposure : 141 x 30s = 4230s @ 70 minit
Aperture : f/3.5
Focal Length :15 mm

141 frame di stack dengan software startrail stacker. Mudah dan cepat. Tapi, segala exif data dari kamera hilang. :-(
Banyak cahaya yang mengganggu kerana projek ini hanya dibuat bumbung rumah saya yang terletak ditengah pekan.
