Starting point to explore the world.

Fregati !...

I was cleaning out unedited files from a folder and organizing them when I realized I really wanted to add some more of these to the album. I don't know about you but usually on a big chase day where you shoot 500 frames I end up with a dozen at best I choose to edit and share. But this was one of those days where the ratio was more like 50% instead of 2%...it was just that good of a day! There aren't many of those in this hobby so why not?!
Anyway, the winter of 2021-2022 didn't yield any plow trains of any sort for me so here is a look back to a spectacular day spent along those magical Washington County rails of a railroad that should need no introduction.
Getting ready to start a day of plowing out the Batten Kill Railroad mainline to Eagle Bridge, SNEX 5012 (an ex Atlantic & Danville Alco RS36 blt. 12/59) has been fired up on the Carovail spur where she normally rests with out of service RS3 605 (Alco blt. Nov. 1950 as Lehigh and Hudson River number 10). The cab roofs offer a hint as to how much snow had fallen on the region the prior couple days.

I started Dylan Sara's "Ink Naturally" early June. Life happens and I am just getting back to it. I began this spread when The class started. Today i had fun filling in with some of the many inks I made. So cool and surprising to see the pH modifiers in action. Dylan is kind, fun, inspiring and wise.

Getting ready to work the cows with his dad, this little buckaroo leads his horse out of the trailer.
A frosty morning in Cummersdale sees 70812 head a late running 6C34 0550 Dalston-Carlisle Yard, the returning empties from the second of today’s trips to the oil depot with traffic from Grangemouth refinery. Cold weather sometimes slows the discharge of the tanks, particularly the heavier fuels, hence the late running.
As so often happens here in my neck of the woods, we are on a tempature rollar coaster. Frosty starts with warm days.
The leaves outlined in frost, proved to hard for me to pass up this morning.

On Saturdays I like to go for a meditation session at the Upper House at Hakone Gardens, a Japanese garden in Saratoga, California. After our last session of the year we cleaned the house - floor, walls, windows, now shiny as new.
It's good to let go of the old year and start fresh. My e-mail inbox is by no mean clean, but the mind, surroundings and camera gear certainly are.
I processed a balanced and a paintery HDR photo from a RAW exposure, merged them selectively, and carefully adjusted the curves and color balance. I welcome and appreciate your critical feedback.

Sometimes you have to burn it down and start from scratch.
A huge thank you to Anna Skahill for not only modelling in this photo, but in doing so missing out on going to the lake with the rest of the meetup gang (they forgot about us!)
This image has been in my head for months and I knew that I wanted to shoot it in Indiana and right away I knew that Anna would be the perfect person to help me out. I don't think I've ever met someone as 100% genuinely happy and positive as Anna.
It wasn't until after I finished my three hours of shooting that I went on Facebook and Twitter to find my concerned dancer friend's sentiments and disclaimers about my first time on point. Right now I have frozen corn in a towel on my toes. I hope the blisters aren't too bad.
THE THINGS I DO FOR FLICKR.
Construction work on new blocks of flats in the marina started early in the summer 2014 ......... and thousands of our resident starlings disappeared. I thought it was because the construction team had taken over Weatherspoons, the building on the left of this image, which the starlings roost under.
I've since learnt that they migrate to warmer climates in February or March for the summer months and return in October. They're a lovely example of birds adapting their habits to address changes bought about by man.
This image was taken in March this year just before they migrated. And now it's October 2015 and they're back in their thousands. Weather permitting they can be seen flying down to line up on top of the cranes. Then they murmur around the skies for a while and all head for the same old roosting spot under Weatherspoons.
