I love a good trail. I love it when it pays off with some wonderful scenery or just opens your mind to the world around you.

While driving to a nearby wildlife refuge I couldn't resist pulling over to watch the sunrise over the river (oh and take a couple of pictures as well).
Cedar Waxwing at The Bahá’í House of Worship in Wilmette, Illinois
This is the first time I have been able to photograph this not so rare bird. They seem to like the diet of overripe berries and are known to get drunk as the berries may start to ferment.
It's not easy to get the details on this overcast day as the feathers are of extremely fine texture.

Opportunities yet to be,
And, as they are unfolding,
Who knows what we will see?
*****Happy New Year 2010*****

This morning I returned to Start Point lighthouse on the South Devon coast and was rewarded with a pretty sunrise.
Capturing the lighthouse light on was a bonus.
Little Pied Cormorant inaugurates the new breeding season with a big splash and a big twig for the new nest.

Happy New Year to all of you, my friends!
May 2019 be peaceful, healthy and creative!
This is the wall and fence that stops people walking around the lighthouse at Start Point - not much of a deterrent from what I could see. The Coast Path follows the headland around to the beautiful beach at Mattiscombe Sands.

The morning fog typical of early October has just begun to lift as a Pittsburg & Shawmut train is just a few miles out of Brookville and heading to the mines.
A very thick fog to start the day. This umbrella user is perhaps waiting to see the view if the mists should part. (He will leave disappointed).

I went to the community garden in Gabriel Park for the first time this year. Something beautiful was starting to blossom. I do not have a the name yet :-)
Today is the start of a new school year and will mark the tenth year of me getting into the teaching profession. At this point in my life I can't imagine doing anything else.
This year will also mark a new chapter in my personal life as well. It has been a summer of change - some of it that was very jarring and painful.
I am happy to report that I seem to have braved the worst of the storm and I'm coming out the other side intact and ready to travel this new road. Happy Fall!
Starting a tribute to the ladies with this shot of two elk cows found in Bighorn National Forest, Wyoming.
When it comes to species such as moose, elk and bison, wildlife photographers tend to favor the big bulls with massive horns and antlers. But the females of those species deserve a little photo love too. So here's the first of four shots giving attention to the ladies.
It was interesting to see the different stages of shedding here. The closer cow had shed almost all her winter coat, while the other cow still had most of her winter coat.
