Spring has apparently decided to hold back the reigns for a while in the Foothills. We've been graced with two days and nights of nonstop snow. Meanwhile, Marg's little garden projects are on temporary hold, awaiting whatever little embellishments she decides to apply. I suspect there will be some flowers in those pots. In fact, I'd bet on it.

not sure exactly what type of tree this was in bloom up at Warminster Community Park, but the pale pink flowers certainly looked lovely against the blue sky.

Walking over a hill into a valley, a spring bull moose sprouts knuckles of his future rack. This photo was taken in the high country with the Alaska Range towering above in the distance.

This was the second trip to this area since my illness, it was good to get out of the truck and walk a bit. Still not able to hike across the tundra but hope to soon.

This is a much photographed spot in Whitehall, Texas. But, as it was my first visit, it was a new capture for me. When spring arrives, you have to get out and about if you can. The hot summer is waiting over the horizon.

Yashino cherry blossoms in my yard. Many thanks to Flickr friend virginiarose for the ID. This tree was here when we bought our house and is beautiful!!!

As is the "new" normal...it was nearly 80F today after being in the low 40s yesterday....

from Wikipedia...

A catkin or ament is a slim, cylindrical flower cluster, with inconspicuous or no petals, usually wind-pollinated (anemophilous) but sometimes insect pollinated (as in Salix). They contain many, usually unisexual flowers, arranged closely along a central stem which is often drooping. They are found in many plant families, including Betulaceae, Fagaceae, Moraceae, and Salicaceae. For some time, they were believed to be a key synapomorphy among the proposed Hamamelididae, but it is now believed that this flower arrangement has arisen independently by convergent evolution on a number of occasions.

In many of these plants only the male flowers form catkins, and the female flowers are single (hazel, oak), a cone (alder) or other types (mulberry). In other plants (such as poplar) both male and female flowers are borne in catkins.

Catkin-bearing plants include many other trees or shrubs such as birch, willow, hickory, sweet chestnut and sweetfern (Comptonia), and also some herbaceous plants such as nettle.

The word catkin is derived from the Dutch katje, meaning "kitten", on account of the resemblance to a kitten's tail. Ament is from the Latin amentum, meaning "thong" or "strap".

Woke up to snow this morning

It was good to have Kohler-Andrae State Park open again after a month of closure. The park is now once more only accessible to those with an annual or daily park sticker. As a result, the crowds have thinned out, people wisely practice social distancing, and garbage no longer litters the park.

Thursday was sunny, the air full of birdsong, and there was much new plant growth after our days of heavy rains. For a moment, life seemed almost back to normal in these trying times. I hope that you have a similar place where you can go as well. It does make a difference in outlook.

Spring has taken a grip on Sydney with 31c MAX and clear blue skies easing us into what should be a ripper of a weekend!

This friendly little one wouldn't stop chatting with me until I captured his best side.

"Friends are the sunshine of life. " John Hay

"I was born in the path of the winter wind

I was raised where the mountains are old

Their springtime waters came dancing down

And I remember the tales they told.

River, take me along in your sunshine, sing me a song

Ever moving and winding and free

You rolling old river, you changing old river

Let's you and me, river, run down to the sea"
