The Oa coast on the Isle of Islay between Scotland and Northern Ireland. An island within a spreadsheet of frames : Dál Riata, The British Isles, The Highlands of Scotland, Argyll and Bute and The Inner Hebrides. A shot taken on a pocket camera as I changed lens. The shot was taken at about 200 yards, roughly the distance that 'Larysa Unleashed' needed for her shot a couple of months later. www.facebook.com/LarysaUnleashed/photos/a.645791048818177...

Whilst the goats were not nervous in the months prior to Larysa's big moment, they were still a difficult target for me to shoot, and I had to change an M42 lens in high wind for a Carl Zeiss Sonnar 135mm with its sweet optics and typically duff leader thread. Dust panic and cold hand fiddle. Without being arrogant, my guess is that my shot was far more difficult than Larsula's killing pop moment. When I finally got the goats in my sight, they had decided to turn and wander over their brow. The relaxed nature of the wildlife on Islay makes it interesting for photographers with or without specialist lenses (and I really probably needed something modern). I can't tell if the wild goat that Larsula shot was one on the left of this photo - the coast looks the same ... and the wild goats are only found in pockets on the Isle ... The photo of her with the dead animal is certainly the more in focus, but the lifeless composition seems to be somehow ... less composed. I can't see why they needed the animal in this final pose, or where exactly her 'tradition' 'need' or 'skill' lies.

I wish I had no technology today as I wouldn't be stuck in spreadsheets and software! So, no technology would really be quite cool (but I wouldn't have my Kindle!!) as I could sit back and read book after book - oh what a life, that would be!!

Our Daily Challenge ~ NO TECHNOLOGY .....

Thanks, in advance, to everyone who views this photo, adds a note, leaves a comment and of course BIG thanks to anyone who chooses to favourite my photo .... thanks to you all.

At Mount Stewart, near Greyabbey, County Down

Not a great picture. Very dull conditions among the fuchsia - I took about 50 pictures of bees working the fuchsia and this was the best!

We had a talk at Belfast Beekeepers Association a year or two ago by Thomas Ellis from at Donegal bees and he said that in parts of western Donegal the fuchsia was the main summer nectar flow prior to the heather starting. Here in County Down it is only an occasional forage source. The bees work it for nectar only.

We Are Made One with What We Touch and See

We are resolved into the supreme air,

We are made one with what we touch and see,

With our heart's blood each crimson sun is fair,

With our young lives each spring impassioned tree

Flames into green, the wildest beasts that range

The moor our kinsmen are, all life is one, and all is change.

I have put an easy to search spreadsheet of the whole set of honey bees on named flowers here:

This image was used for one of the new (2024) greetings cards sold by NIHBS (Native Irish Honeybee Society).

I've been trying to get a picture of a bee on this for ages. So often the ones I am familiar with have flowers that are a bit too high. These ones in Dundee were all at head height or lower. Made for an enjoyable 10 minutes with the camera! Such a beautiful heady scent too - i hadnt realised that before!

Orange pollen load on view.

We're reaching the end of an era with The Clone Wars finally being wrapped up this February. This all started when my dad asked what information was needed for this final season and while he has seen every episode, he's only seen them once and over five years ago. I began going through my head and compiled a list of episodes that feature recurring characters that affect one another throughout the series and will affect each other in the final season. I present to you what I believe to be essential episodes for the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

I made a video explaining my reasons for the episodes I selected, you should check it out: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yJ_SejRrDI

Want this list of episodes for yourself, I've got a nice spreadsheet for you: drive.google.com/open?id=1sY7qfGs5hkVwRq8mpL7RMsfXBDFHi4Iw

The East Somerset Railway (ESR) runs trains from Cranmore station to Mendip Vale station and back on a 5 mile round trip along its Heritage Railway line.

Along the line, there is also a halt and Cranmore West Station which is near the Sheds.

There is ample car parking at the Cranmore end of the line on normal running days so I started there.

The day I went during the sort of main summer holidays, there was only 1 steam Locomotive running although another was at the sheds and could have been steamed if thought necessary.

Here, at Mendip Vale Station after running round the train, 46447 is ready to depart and power the return journey to Cranmore.

46447 is a Ivatt designed LMS "Class 2" 2MT 2-6-0 loco.

You know that feeling when you've created a spreadsheet, then spent hours entering data from a paper copy? Then, after a few hours, you think "that's not right". So you investigate, and find out that you haven't been given all the sheets? So now, you need to go through every month, checking if there is missing data?

And you lose the will to live?

That.

I needed a break from the computer. I had a cream cake for afternoon tea break, but needed to wash up first.

I've got another task now, so tomorrow will be yet more data entry. Oh, and there is no elegant way to eat a chocolate eclair!

A Photo from Day 2 of a 10 day 9 night "Railway Tour" of 13 Museums and Heritage Railway Locations. The Main Aim was to get as many Steam Train Journeys to add to my Steam Powered Journeys Spreadsheet which is my modern "Trainspotting" record.

At Didcot Railway Centre, their "Diamond Jubilee Gala" had 4 steam locomotives with 2 each on the "Main Demonstration Line" and the shorter "Branch Line." 2 diesels powered some early morning and evening trains.

Several Steam Locomotives were also on Static Display and it was possible to go round the sheds.

Here, 1340 Trojan an 0-4-0ST Loco is waiting at the bottom of the Coal Incline and will shortly push a coal truck up the incline.

And 2999 - "Lady of Legend", a 4-6-0 built in between 2009 and 2019 is in steam and is returning to the shed area after working on the main Demonstration Line.

2999 was built in such a way that it can be a 4-4-2 or as here a 4-6-0 version of the GWR 2900 "Saint" Class, None of which survived into Preservation. Some parts from Hall or Manor Locomotives were used in the build to an original Churchward design.

We ate snacks and played air rockets in the park. He loves these nori seaweed snacks, sent to him from his grandparents. I finally made a spreadsheet to remember photo #s. I'll be flexible in exact days, but will try to make 365 photos.

A Photo from Day 3 of a 10 day 9 night "Railway Tour" of 13 Museums and Heritage Railway Locations. The Main Aim was to get as many Steam Train Journeys to add to my Steam Powered Journeys Spreadsheet which is my modern "Trainspotting" record.

The Swanage Railway runs trains from Norden via Corfe Castle, another station and a halt to Swanage Station or the other way round so there is some very pleasant scenery to look at and photograph when travelling along the line.

There is ample car parking at the Norden end of the line so I started there.

The day I went during the sort of main summer holidays, there were 2 trains running both hauled by Steam Locomotives.

Here, I have just alighted from a train from Norden to Swanage and have walked along the platform to take some Photos of the run round by 31806, a Maunsell designed SR U Class 2-6-0 loco.

Here, after arriving at the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway (EVR) for their Steam in the Valley 21 Event and going on a journey behind Steam Locomotive "Henry Ellison" from Wirksworth Station on a train up the very steep 1 in 27 Ravenstor Incline, I went along the line to Duffield Station.

Here, Back at Wirksworth Station, I get a Cab photo of loco GWR 9466 which will power my next round trip.

In this photo below, you can see Tane, my once-bright-eyed-and-bushy-tailed previous assistant. After a rather strenuous and stressful China leg to the tour and in the throes of young love, he has decided to head over to the USA to pursue his college sweetheart, Ash. His heart beats away like a jungle drum inside of his smooth dolphin chest, and soon that chest will flutter across the mixed metaphor of the Atlantic Sea to rejoin his paramour. Thusly, I have lost an assistant and New Zealand has lost a national hero.

So now, I needs me a new one. What's involved? Well, first let's talk about what you get, then talk about what you gotta do.

First, you'll travel around the world with us and everything is included from air travel to board. For example, across our tours in USA, Europe, and Asia, we stayed in over 40 different Ritz-Carltons and other partner hotels, so we're not exactly slummin' it. You get to take photos alongside the team, learn a lot about the visual arts, and see some of the most amazing things in the world. You'll have adventures that are indescribable. You'll also have the freedom to create a great many things within the organization from photos to books to film and more. You'll be on the cutting edge of tech, media, and social media. You'll also end up going down many philosophical rabbit holes if you so choose.

Now, what is required from you? Well, mostly a willingness to do everything from the most awesome to the most mundane. Remember, anything I ask you to do is something that I have been willing to do myself for the past ten years. So, if it's not below me, it's not below you. We're a small company (about eight people), so everyone does a little bit of everything.

Remember, it's my goal to be the dumbest person at the company. So I hope you're clever and enthusiastic. I find that gets you through most anything.

To name a few of these tasks, in no particular order: Organizing photos and videos, backing up data, editing video, charging camera batteries, sending videos to our editors in Brisbane and Scotland, carrying a lot of stuff, shooting video while carrying a super-heavy gimbal, meeting with our art collectors, getting me smoothies or wine depending on the time of day, writing newsletters, copy/pasting blog posts, creating eBooks from existing assets, getting supplies for the studio, driving my kids around when we need another set of wheels, keeping meticulous track of social stats in spreadsheets, getting us sandwiches on those 14-hour days, cleaning our Burning Man RV, procurement, drone piloting and prep, graphic design for social media reports for partners and other marketing needs, Lightroom basics, Photoshop basics, laughing at my jokes, writing skills that are way above average, making cocktails at our studio bar for soirees, driving us around on photo shoots throughout New Zealand and the world, hiking long distances while carrying a lot of shit, managing our online store at Store.StuckInCustoms.com , keeping up with the latest trends in social media, and generally anticipating what needs to be done before we ask for it.

You'll also need to live here in Queenstown or Arrowtown, New Zealand. While I am in studio here, you'll come in every day during normal working hours and you have your own little office with a window view of beautiful New Zealand (that is blocked by a huge bush).

It's certainly a rather stringent set of requirements, I realize... sort of like Another Trey. A clone. A clone of my own... willing to work ridiculous hours while chipping away at short-term and long-term goals.

Interested? Then send us some goodies at business@stuckincustoms.com ! We expect a large volume of applicants, so don't feel bad if you don't get a personal response from me or the team. We'll definitely look at every application, though! Thank you for your time... and if it doesn't work out with us, I hope it works out for you in one way or another! -Trey
