Ilex cornuta is commonly called Chinese holly.

This one is a 4 metre tree at Rowallane.

It flowers much earlier than our native holly and it has smaller leaves.

The bees were working it hard and seemed to be getting both nectar and pollen. A small pollen load, whitish cream in colour is visible here,

66727 Maritime No 1 was in town and it impressed some more than others. Those sat sunbathing on the platform didn't seem too enthused. Perhaps they were waiting for one of the orange ones 66419 on the Dewsbury to Earles some 20 minutes later. Not for me as it was back to spreadsheet.

Success, of sorts.

The snowdrop is badly overexposed but at least I got a picture.

I am conditioned to big numbers. They're my thing. I don't blink.

Numbers on a page, in a spreadsheet, in a formula are one thing; easily rationalised.

This is another thing. Everyone of these painted hearts isn't a number. Each was just a single digit in the enumeration of the COVID dead. Except each digit was just a placeholder for a life lost and each their stories, what made up each one is orders and orders of magnitude as a multiplier to this simple head count.

Think of the relationships, the social networks, the health of entire communities impacted.

I blinked.

A Photo from Day 6 of a 10 day 9 night "Railway Tour" of 13 Museums and Heritage Railway Locations. The Main Aim was to get as many Steam Train Journeys to add to my Steam Powered Journeys Spreadsheet which is my modern "Trainspotting" record but unfortunately I didn't get any journeys on this day.

The Severn Valley Railway (SVR) runs trains along a 16 mile Heritage line from Kidderminster station to Bridgenorth station .Highly is one of the stations along the line and there is The Engine House Museum there.

The day I went during the sort of main summer holidays, there were 4 steam Locomotive running on various Steam Excursions where due to Covid19, Compartments were being sold to families and there were some tables for groups of 2 or 4 people but nothing really suitable for the solo traveler.

Here, in The Engine House museum very near Highley Station I took this photo of 48773, a Stanier designed and North British Locomotive Company, Glasgow built for the LMS, Class 8F - 2-8-0 loco.

You know that feeling when you've created a spreadsheet, then spent hours entering data from a paper copy? Then, after a few hours, you think "that's not right". So you investigate, and find out that you haven't been given all the sheets? So now, you need to go through every month, checking if there is missing data?

And you lose the will to live?

That.

I needed a break from the computer. I had a cream cake for afternoon tea break, but needed to wash up first.

I've got another task now, so tomorrow will be yet more data entry. Oh, and there is no elegant way to eat a chocolate eclair!

The Oa coast on the Isle of Islay between Scotland and Northern Ireland. An island within a spreadsheet of frames : Dál Riata, The British Isles, The Highlands of Scotland, Argyll and Bute and The Inner Hebrides. A shot taken on a pocket camera as I changed lens. The shot was taken at about 200 yards, roughly the distance that 'Larysa Unleashed' needed for her shot a couple of months later. www.facebook.com/LarysaUnleashed/photos/a.645791048818177...

Whilst the goats were not nervous in the months prior to Larysa's big moment, they were still a difficult target for me to shoot, and I had to change an M42 lens in high wind for a Carl Zeiss Sonnar 135mm with its sweet optics and typically duff leader thread. Dust panic and cold hand fiddle. Without being arrogant, my guess is that my shot was far more difficult than Larsula's killing pop moment. When I finally got the goats in my sight, they had decided to turn and wander over their brow. The relaxed nature of the wildlife on Islay makes it interesting for photographers with or without specialist lenses (and I really probably needed something modern). I can't tell if the wild goat that Larsula shot was one on the left of this photo - the coast looks the same ... and the wild goats are only found in pockets on the Isle ... The photo of her with the dead animal is certainly the more in focus, but the lifeless composition seems to be somehow ... less composed. I can't see why they needed the animal in this final pose, or where exactly her 'tradition' 'need' or 'skill' lies.

We're reaching the end of an era with The Clone Wars finally being wrapped up this February. This all started when my dad asked what information was needed for this final season and while he has seen every episode, he's only seen them once and over five years ago. I began going through my head and compiled a list of episodes that feature recurring characters that affect one another throughout the series and will affect each other in the final season. I present to you what I believe to be essential episodes for the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

I made a video explaining my reasons for the episodes I selected, you should check it out: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yJ_SejRrDI

Want this list of episodes for yourself, I've got a nice spreadsheet for you: drive.google.com/open?id=1sY7qfGs5hkVwRq8mpL7RMsfXBDFHi4Iw

Looking at this object closely, its a very complex 'document' -cleverly made and designed to be virtually indestructible, virtually impossible to forge, and yet to be graphically interesting - especially close-up. This afternoon, my wife and I have been discussing our home and personal finances, and examining our spreadsheets in some detail. The detail and complexity which my wife has built into these spreadsheets is impressive, so this single £10 note probably sums up the afternoon's work for me.

A Photo from Day 8 of a 10 day 9 night "Railway Tour" of 13 Museums and Heritage Railway Locations. The Main Aim was to get as many Steam Train Journeys to add to my Steam Powered Journeys Spreadsheet which is my modern "Trainspotting" record.

When planning this "Rail Tour" I had hoped to go the Great Central Railway (GCR) at Loughborough but a lack of Timetables on their web site and a shortage of anything i viewed as attractive in terms numbers of Steam Locomotives in service on this day (Saturday) prompted a change of plan.

I decided to go to the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Railway (EBA) in the morning and I can move onto the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway (KWVR) in the afternoon. It is only about 30 minutes by car between the 2 railways.

As I was leaving Embsay Station, It had started Raining when I took this photo of MG Classic Cars which explains the MG headboard on Beatrice.

In the Background, No. 7 "Beatrice" is almost ready to set off on the next round trip .

"Beatrice" No. 7 is a Hunslet Works No. 2705 0-6-0ST loco.

Off to "ingrow West" Station next for the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway (KWVR).

I've been trying to get a picture of a bee on this for ages. So often the ones I am familiar with have flowers that are a bit too high. These ones in Dundee were all at head height or lower. Made for an enjoyable 10 minutes with the camera! Such a beautiful heady scent too - i hadnt realised that before!

Orange pollen load on view.

Will go on spreadsheet!

Another Double Railway Day and I decided to go to the North Norfolk Railway (NNR) in the morning and I can move onto the Mid Norfolk Railway (MNR) in the afternoon. It is only about 50 minutes by car between the 2 railways.

When I arrived at Sheringham Station on the North Norfolk Railway (NNR), there were 2 Steam Trains operating along the line.

Here, after travelling along the line to Holt Station, this Photo is of Riddles designed and Swindon Works built 92203 - "Black Prince" - a BR Std. Class 9F - 2-10-0 just after the run round.

There are 2 of these shrubs beside the main building (where the tea room is) at Rowallane Gardens. They are in full bloom at present and look beautiful. The flowers have a distinct and striking citrus fragrance. The bees were working them hard on a very mild midwinter afternoon.

A Photo from Day 2 of a 10 day 9 night "Railway Tour" of 13 Museums and Heritage Railway Locations. The Main Aim was to get as many Steam Train Journeys to add to my Steam Powered Journeys Spreadsheet which is my modern "Trainspotting" record.

At Didcot Railway Centre, their Diamond jubilee Gala had 4 steam locomotives with 2 each on the "Main Demonstration Line" and the shorter "Branch Line." 2 diesels powered some early morning and evening trains.

Several Steam Locomotives were also on Static Display and it was possible to go round the sheds.

And 2999 - "Lady of Legend", a 4-6-0 built in between 2009 and 2019 is in steam and is returning to the shed area after working on the main Demonstration Line.

2999 was built in such a way that it can be a 4-4-2 or as here a 4-6-0 version of the GWR 2900 "Saint" Class, None of which survived into Preservation. Some parts from Hall or Manor Locomotives were used in the build to an original Churchward design.

The Swanage Railway runs trains from Norden via Corfe Castle, another station and a halt to Swanage Station or the other way round so there is some very pleasant scenery to look at and photograph when travelling along the line.

There is ample car parking at the Norden end of the line so I started there.

The day I went during the sort of main summer holidays, there were 2 trains running both hauled by Steam Locomotives.

Here, I have just alighted from a train from Norden to Swanage and have walked along the platform to take some Photos of the run round by 31806, a Maunsell designed SR U Class 2-6-0 loco.

A Day Trip to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway for the Saturday of a 3 day Steam Gala,

As Usual, the Main Aim was to get as many Steam Train Journeys to add to my Steam Powered Journeys Spreadsheet which is my modern "Trainspotting" record.

There were 2 Visiting Engines and some of 5 of the Home Fleet Locomotives scheduled to run on an intensive timetable.

Here, on my first Steam Heritage Railway Visit of 2022, 52044 has been the motive power for the journey back down the valley to Keighley Station. after dropping off Taff Vale 85 at Haworth Sheds...

52044, is a Barton Wright and Aspinall designed and Bayer-Peacock built 0-6-0, originally for the L&Y as no 957, later renumbered 12044 for the LMS and 52044 for BR.

52044 was the locomotive used as "The Green Dragon" in the 1970 film "The Railway Children".

At Mount Stewart, near Greyabbey, County Down

Not a great picture. Very dull conditions among the fuchsia - I took about 50 pictures of bees working the fuchsia and this was the best!

We had a talk at Belfast Beekeepers Association a year or two ago by Thomas Ellis from at Donegal bees and he said that in parts of western Donegal the fuchsia was the main summer nectar flow prior to the heather starting. Here in County Down it is only an occasional forage source. The bees work it for nectar only.
