I randomly picked up some split peas at the co-op, so then it was time to find a recipe!
Starting with 101 Cookbooks' simple but good recipe, I customized it to include some veggies I wanted to use to add texture and nutrients!
Instead of using two onions, I only used one and added half a red bell pepper, a medium sized carrot, and a celery stalk. Per her suggestion, I added a good amount of spinach when the soup was almost done cooking. I didn't have smoked paprika so I went with the regular kind. I have to say, the lemon juice and zest adds a fantastic flavor to the soup, and I am not a fan of lemon!
Mmm, nutrients!
Dinner on a cold winter Wednesday: split pea soup. :)
Another consideration was the dental work we'd both had the day before :P
I used the last of the 5 lbs. of honeybaked ham we'd gotten for Christmas dinner in it. The result was delicious but not as photogenic as the raw ingredient.

Apparently anxiety makes me make soup. Lots of soup. And then eat lots of soup. Good thing I like soup, right?

Alex cooked the split peas (we have a humongous bag of dried), and stuff got added. carrots. spinach. curry (from the cubes). Tasted good.
ingr. : potato, soy beans, tofu, splitpeas, thinly sliced witloof, garlic, seaweed mix (nori and dulse) and herbs.
i always try not to use flower or other materials normaly used to keep the ingredients stick. it takes away the taste of the vegetables and only makes it heavier to digest.
best thing to do is prepare the burgers and then leave them in the fridge for a couple of hours.
it takes delicassy to cook them.

I started feeling sick on Friday - sore throat, tired muscles and other common cold symptoms. I was worried about the race, but got through it OK. Immediately after the race though, my body started to shut down. Then Epcot drained me of whatever energy I still had, leaving Geoffrey to drive the whole distance back home. I spent all day in bed yesterday, not really eating much. By night time I was craving warm soup, which always makes me feel better when I'm sick. So I dragged myself to Whole Foods and got some split pea soup and ginger ale. :-)
I really like the Shag hair for Culture Shock. And the Skull Bowl and Aviators from Deco....
Three people tried to recruit me in the Wastelands while I shot this. Teheheheheeeeee.
This is my new purchase - A tiny lighter that can be stashed away in bags for emergencies. I should have done something in the photo to show the scale of it's tinyness. I shall have to rectify that with another photo at some stage.

Having soup on days I get my braces adjusted is becoming tradition. Tonight Geoff made Jen's Split Pea Chowder with yellow split peas instead of green. It was delicious, quite honestly one of the best soups I've ever had and just what I needed.
