Pictures don't do this Pasta-touille justice. TONS of vegetables, split peas and a teeny bit of chicken, laced with chevre and fresh mozzarella cheese!

(Homemade) Split pea soup. Gone.

2028-60 celadon green, 2146-30 split pea, 1306 habanero pepper, 2169-30 oriole

I confess, I originally planned on making leek and potato soup, but I used my last potato on a tofu scramble. So I sustituted a big yam instead. Then I realized the yam and three small leeks wasn’t going to make much soup. So I improvised. Out came 2 chopped garlic cloves, 3 celery stalks, 2 carrots and 1 cup of split peas. I washed and then started simmering the peas in about 1 1/2 litres of water. I added everything else about 30 minutes later, including seasonings of parsley, thyme, a bay leaf, a little oregano, a squirt of Bragg’s All Purpose soy sauce, 1 vegan vegetable boullion cube and a small amount of smoked paprika and black pepper. After another 30 minutes of simmering, I added about half a cup of nutritional yeast flakes, a drizzle of olive oil and a little less toasted sesame oil. I shut off the stove and finished it with the juice of one fresh lemon. Soup so hearty and delicious, you could make a meal on it! …And all #vegan too.

The Brass Split Pea Lighter is from County Comm.

countycomm.com/brasslighter.html

I used around 10 feet of 0.9mm braided nylon cord and an o-ring to make the hitched pouch/cover.

The o-ring is slightly smaller in diameter than the lighter, so it stretches to go on/off the lighter, shown attached to my jacket's zipper pull, next to a Photon LED light for size reference.

Why am I not surprised that this place still uses styrofoam cups?

A comforting bowl of tomato soup is oomphed up with roasted garlic, split peas, potato and a handful of Manchego cheese. Smoked spicy paprika and a hint of rosemary bring life to the party!

Beef and Sweet Potato Stew is slowly baked in a Dutch oven until unctuous and rich. A pinch of cinnamon elevates the mineral quality of the beef and the sweetness of the carrots and #sweet potatoes while loads of onion and garlic add mellow savoury character.

Raw Organic Yellow Split Peas in a Bowl

Playing with some Designers United 2 Crow gear.

Adapted from 201 Gluten Free Recipes for Kids, I pureed the finished product instead of leaving chunks of veggies, had to use more water and added pepper, turmeric and a tiny bit of chives for flavour.

Simple Split Pea Soup

Serves 4

½ tbsp olive oil

1 medium onion, diced

1 large carrot, diced

1 russet potato, diced

6 cups gluten-free, low sodium vegetable broth

1 bay leaf

½ tsp dried parsley

¼ tsp cumin

¼ tsp black pepper

¼ tsp turmeric

1 cup yellow split peas

2 tbsp minced chives

Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat.

Add onion, carrot and potato and cook, stirring, until softened – about 10 minutes.

Stir in the remaining ingredients (except the chives). Cover and cook 15 minutes.

Uncover and cook a further 35 minutes, until everything is very soft.

Using an immersion blender (or a regular blender in batches), puree until smooth.

Stir in the chives and serve.

The joy of this chunky and lightly spicy soup came from being able to clean our (overburdened) fridge and freezer out of corn stock, leftover chicken, roasted tomatoes, acorn squash, carrots and peppers. A whole grain and legume blend added just enough graininess for a full meal deal that made perfect lunches at work.

Split Pea Burger - Alton Brown's Split Pea Burger, with a little vital wheat gluten so it doesn't splush in every direction when you take a bite.

My Veggie Kitchen

It’s easy to conclude in one glance that the split pea soup is one of the more popular items at this North York institution – there’s a bowl on nearly every table. The humble milk- and meat-free soup is thickened by green split peas and laced with parsley and sweet feathery dill. Strands of egg noodles float amongst diced carrots, celery and onion in this simple and crowd pleasing number. ($3.99/bowl)

Lunch at Oasis cafe 2nd location in Georgetown, Guyana. It's either Oasis II, or Oasis Too, can't recall. Pre-birthday treat courtesy sister, the elder since I won't be in Guyana for my actual birthday.

We went with the prix fixe menu (GY $1800, about US $9 - yes food is very affordable in this country). Choice of one of the following:

Soup or Salad -

Greek Salad (salad with feta cheese and olives)

Split Pea Soup with dumplings and a piece of whole grain bread

Entrée -

Spicky Baked Chicken (picture from a previous visit)

Coconut Shrimp Curry

Chilli con Carne (they were out by the time we got there)

Side Dishes -

Spanish Rice

Stir Fried Vegetables

Something else I cannot recall

Dessert -

selection of cakes

I went with Coconut; sister with Chocolate
