22/10/11.Padley and Bole Hills foray. Identified by Fungi John by the yellow sclerotia. This small toadstool looks just like a Mycena, but has a clustered habit on old fungi esp Russula and Lactarius. Always soak raw beans overnight, rinse, and then boil vigorously for at last 15 minutes before simmering until tender.
Laborers carry bags of wheat on to roof-high stacks at a warehouse operated by Ethiopia's National Disaster Risk Management Commission (NDRMC) in Shinile, Dire Dawa administration, Ethiopia, on February 9, 2019. The warehouse is used to store commodities distributed through the Joint Emergency Operation Program (JEOP).
When recurrent droughts lead to crop failures in Ethiopia, it can leave families with little or nothing to eat. JEOP distributes wheat, yellow split peas and cooking oil to targeted beneficiaries. In 2018 alone, funding from USAID helped CRS and its partners provide emergency food assistance to more than 1.5 million food insecure people, plus another 506,000 people displaced in southwestern Ethiopia due to ongoing security issues.

“I was targeted for support because my crop was destroyed. The drought is becoming recurrent. We have not seen an improvement in the climate situation. If there is rain, it is excessive rain and destroys the crops. So we are becoming dependent on food aid. My family consumes the food I grow. We don’t sell anything. Even in normal conditions it is not enough to feed the family,” Birhan said.

Finally coerced Rich to try the new bistro in the next block. Very nice but then it's tough to go wrong with classic French. I had vegetable soup, a lovely monkfish in sauce américaine and poire belle hélène. To say I'm content is an understatement.

When I finally got cable tv after a few years of going without, I started watching the Food Network, and lots of Alton Brown's Good Eats. Always looking for healthy veggie lunch options, I knew I had to try his split pea burgers. Loaded with lots of good stuff, it seemed like a great lunch.
This makes a LOT of burgers. I got 9 or 10. For one person, that is a LOT of split pea-ness. I think I'm tired of split peas for the time being, but I think the recipe is definitely worth a shot. Not as good as the black bean burgers, but a good veggie lunch option!
