This is my heaviest spindle so far. 1.2 ounces. Oh... I guess I DO need one closer to 2oz to spin thicker than fingering....
Russian Spindle & Bowl turned by Keith Leonard. Unsure of the woods, but the bowl weighs 118g and the spindle 50g.

Dave has crafted the whorl of this elegant Tibetan supported spindle from chechen wood. Chechen is also known as Caribbean rosewood. The cherry shaft measures 11 1/2 inches long, and the weight of this beautiful handspinning tool is 50 grams.
This is the Turkish spindle created by Ashford (New Zealand). It allows you to get a center pull ball when you are finished.

This unique 1.1 ounce (30gram) moose antler rim weighted top whorl drop spindle has been intricately carved by Dave with his signature leaf motif. The notched whorl measures 1 5/8 inches in diameter, and the cocobolo shaft is 7 1/4 inches in length. The bottom of the shaft has been shaped to accommodate a half hitch and a brass hook has been added to the top.

most mechanics get lazy here and use a ball retainer in the bearing. this is just pure lameness. the more you do it, the more you will understand why I use a synthetic grease in the bearings, and a petroleum-base light machine/spindle oil inside the hub.....!

My first Bossies! On the left is a Canarywood Midi that weighs 24 grams (.84 ounces). On the right is a Bubinga Mini that weighs 20 grams (.7 ounces). Both have the standard Birch shaft.
