Each year the Zoo hosts its annual sheep shearing event at the Children's Zoo Family Farm.
David Melcon is the Zoo's chief sheep shearer and has been shearing the sheep for more than a decade. He's a master at his craft.
The San Francisco Zoo will send the wool to a Native American Reservation where it will be used for traditional weavings. This helps ensure the culture and rituals of weavings among the Native American tribes continues.
Plus, Urban Fauna Studio was on hand to demonstrate the wonders of working with wool though spindle spinning demonstrations, needle felting, and scarf weaving.

I bought the spindle at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival in 2006 and can't for the life of remember the guys name but he's always in the main exibit hall. The distaff is made by Cascade Spindle and I bought it from The Bellwether.
