Praying for Minneapolis, Chicago, and their people tonight. Two towns where I have spent the vast majority of my life and love. So much senseless tragedy - just heartbreaking.

Sunrise on the Winter Solstice proved to be an incredible sight in Chicago - wind was relatively calm making for great reflections and not a cloud in the sky.

Wishing everyone a wonderful, happy and most importantly healthy 2020!

At one point it was #37

went by the South Loop early this morning and was greeted by this awesome cloud formation hovering over the city...the early morning light bouncing off the clouds was just splendid...joggers were actually stopping to capture the scene with their cellphones and had smiles on their faces...just another gorgeous early summer morning in this great city of ours!!!

Norfolk Southern 4710 blocks Lumber Street as it switches the Continental Paper Company in Chicago's south loop. Only the second time I have caught this job. Just (dumb) luck.

May 11, 2016. Pentax 67 on Fuji Provia 100F.

(blogged here, sort of) So I tried for an ill-advised weekday-morning photo shoot with some people. Just missed the bus, next bus crowded, took the train, waited a while at the wrong bus stop because the sign at a major downtown intersection went missing, took what was I guess the wrong bus at a different stop and got out at the wrong place and spent 40 minutes walking to what would have been the meeting spot. Tried to get in the place myself but a man got out of his car and started watching me, and shouted something. Took some photos outside, headed back to downtown.

Waiting for the King Drive bus, a man pulled up and though I wanted no interaction, I gave him the benefit of the doubt and asked if he needed directions. He said something about money? and wanted me to get in the car? And called me a f----- c--- when I put my ear bud back in and left.

I took the bus only a few blocks because I wondered about the disturbance I'd noticed earlier. A huge area around McCormick/Cermak was blocked off and I heard a man was threatening to jump from a building. Lots of people were around. Bring your kids! and binoculars! and yell "jump"! That's what people did. I didn't stay, and I was frustrated not knowing what happened, because the news media has a policy (which I'm just noting, not debating here) of not reporting stories like this, no matter if they tie up a whole neighborhood or CTA line for hours and hours.

Okay, the day somewhat picked up after that, except for opening the cover story in New City to find a massive error in the opening sentence (um, getting a location wrong by 3 miles--folks, you want a factchecker? or copy editor? I'm damn good), and the fact that I'm having so much trouble getting new photos on my computer that I can't get up everything from today...or last week...

After almost 6 months (& a full card), I finally learned how to upload photos from my phone (I'd had to email a few to myself). It took a while to shoot this one, so I'm posting it even if blurry

The park down in Printers Row is getting a face lift. No, this photo isn't backwards. :)
