shot this scene yesterday morning around the South Loop when fog was rolling around the city...but this was nothing compared to the fog we had in the suburbs where visibility was down to about maybe 5 feet only when i drove out of my house at 0530am...have a happy thnksgiving everyone!!!

Canal Street Railroad Bridge & Metra Train, South Loop, Chicago

shot this a couple of hours ago by Solidarity Drive...the 50 degree temp. sure felt like a heat wave to me...a brief respite from all that cold spell old winter brings along...so enjoy tonight's balmy temperatures for when you wake up tomorrow, we all will be back to our 20 degree winter temps....the holiday lights of red and green, the winter glow in the atmosphere sure makes our skyline look like a million bucks....sorry about the dust specks, i need to do some minor sensor cleaning again....pls. OMG!!!! that was a really close call for me earlier this afternoon in the city...one minute i was just shooting sunsets then the next thing i know is there is this gigantic montrousity of a lizard that came out of nowhere, probably form the darkest depths of Lake Michigan...the thing just terrorized the city, people were running everywhere, i was frozen on my spot and did not know what to do except to keep on shooting the terrorizing attack...the thing was even taller than the Willis Tower!!!! good thing i got out of there in one piece, whew!!! i'm never going back to the city again!!!

Do you like this perspective? I had a blast going around the south loop the other night with my friend. We discovered few new spots but unfortunately I was too late for this one that evening. The moon was about to turn full so I had to go back and try to capture this frame again. This is the 10 image composite photographed to capture the crazy dynamic range of this scene from early sunset to full dark. What do you think?

another long exposure shot from last night by the South Loop...it was a perfect night for long exposures with brisk winds to bring about cool cloud drifts and a wavy Lake Michigan to give that water surface that silky sheen after a long exposure....i got some nice coppery lighting above the brightest part of the city and then it gets kind of dark towards the Navy Pier area where there is much less bright lights....the f/14.0 also gave me some decent starbursts around the Shedd Aquarium on the left side of the frame....and the wind felt comfortable and not chilly at all, and good thing my ballhead was sturdy enough that it really did not affect my images by getting shaky results due to the wind....pls. This photograph will be appearing in "The Plan of Chicago @ 100: 15 Views of Burnham's Legacy for a New Century," a book of essays honoring architect and planner Daniel Burnham. It is being published by the Ely Chapter of Lambda Alpha International. just had to get myself out by the Adler Planetarium last Saturday night just to get a shot of the skyline with the Stanley Cup tribute on the sides of the buildings...drove from Round Lake to the city only to get to the Adler and find out that they weren't letting people park until 11pm...had to beg one of the police officers to let me get a couple of quick shots since i drove over 50 miles just to take shots...he gave me 10minutes to shoot away...big thanks to you kind sir!!!!

it was freezing cold out there tonight by the lake, about 8 degrees with a windchill of below zero but had to brave the bone chillin' wind so i could get a shot of the skyline all lit up in red lights as we are now into the month of February, the month of LOVE!!!!!! i had to do jumping jacks in between my 20 second exposures just to keep warm....the cops that were parked right behind me had smiles on their faces, probably enjoying the sight of a crazed guy with a camera shooting pictures in below zero temps and jumping up and down at the same time....anyway, i could not stay that long, 20 minutes out there was enough for me....i tried to get a darker exposure on this frame to emphasize and highlight the red colored city lights most especially the light reflections on the partially frozen Lake Michigan, plus i got to try out my newly acquired ballhead tripod which i think was a great buy....have a great night folks.....pls. A Rock Island district commuter arrives downtown on a dismal, but quiet winter Sunday morning in Chicago.

i am so bummed the Planetarium didn't get chosen to get one of the Space Shuttles that were being retired by NASA and distributed to several prospective museums for display...it would have been cool to have one of the shuttles in the city...anyhow, i heard though that they might get to have a shuttle simulator instead....pls. this is another daytime long exposure of the city's skyline using a circular polarizer and a 10 stop ND filter stacked together...the 10 second exposure really brought out some nice cloud movement and a really smooth Lake Michigan surface...will be catching up with your streams later as i've been a little busy with work lately...pls. On this March Sunday morning Metra 4 is seen backing a signal bungalow into the bowels of CUS, from the Zephyr Pit. None of the shoppers coming or going from Whole Foods even seemed to notice. However, seeing this and the Hoosier State with full length dome complimented my breakfast burrito from there.
