I lived for a few years in Sangenjaya, in Tokyo, and went daily past this house on my way to the underground. I could never really come to terms with the contrast that stood there right before my eyes.

On a sunny day, the "futon" (bed items) out hanging out on the "sao" (stick to hang clothes) to dry.

One of the four fields my buddy Harmon and I enjoyed hiking through on the way up to the waterfall. It was a three mile, out and back hike on a perfect day for waterfall photography... and for me it was my third occasion to try out a new LumixG9 Camera with a Micro 4/3 sensor. It was especially interesting since I had forgot to carry my tripod to the waterfall, and I had to make all of my photographs hand-held, which is something I very rarely do. I've always held to a personal belief that it's always good to keep an open mind and to be teachable with the understanding there usually is always a "give and take" scenario present. I also believe there's more than one right way of technically approaching photography as an art, and I always see something new at every revisit. I enjoyed my excursion here with my friend Harmon and was glad it was safe with no injuries. I'm already stoked about my next return visit.

Something old, something new.

I finally finished, at least until 3 days from now when I think of something new & have to redo something LOL. I spent so much time on tiny details that only I can see, but it makes me happy knowing they're there.

I kept most of the kitchen stuff blue to match the accent wall in the library, to blend the two sides together. I also did a little modification on a couple of the kitchen units. The shelf with the blue cups was like the shelf at the top of the unit, it looked nice, but it's completely useless because it's too small to put anything in there. I was able to pull it off & reglue it the way it is now, to make it usable. I also spent a ton of time on the stove vent, repainting it silver & adding jump rings on the end to add some metal.

This was way more work than any of my 1/6 shelves, because I didn't really have any 1/12 size items, & I had to buy pretty much everything, which meant I changed my mind a billion times. I also kept overestimating how much room I had, so I bought some things that I'm not using, but maybe I will someday. Also, the shelf is only 22 X 12 X 12, so a lot of stuff had to fit in a small space. At least it is finished. For now. :-)

Tried something new. I'd always wanted to catch a train near the old station stop of Hinton, CA, just east of Truckee. When the dispatcher ushered three trains out of Sparks on this late afternoon, I jammed to the end of Hirschdale Road. I was treated to a magnificent vista of the tracks and the river.

kids having fun to create something new for them. light is great.

The Ugly Duckling spent a great deal of time balancing vertically as I worked on it, so that I could access all sides easily. I thought it looked really cool as a tower, and almost lamented the fact that it wasn't one. Now that it's done, I am toying with ideas for building a space tower. I'm using similar colors and building style to stay true to that inspiration, although the similarity will end there. This is what I have after about a day of tinkering. It's parts of the base. There will be landscape around it, with microscale monorails leading to some other structures around it.

This is a very very early WIP, so any or all of it could still be scrapped at this point.

The moment I saw those motor side frames in dark brown I knew that some day I would make use of it on an old, rusted, abandoned engine.

I have played around with this truck design based on LEGO's new train wheels for quite a while now (which you can tell from all the dust on it if you zoom in) and kept refining it, especially brake cylinders and tubes. It survived some accidental drop tests and at some point even got lifted off the rails by the Force so that I think the time has come for it to be integrated in a real model.

Now that the building process hast started, I thought I'd share this little teaser. Bright and fresh colors are not to be expected for the model that I have in mind, so get ready for all sorts of brown, old dark grey and tan. I know that LEGO weathering is a difficult and risky terrain; it'll certainly take some time to get the color combos right, and I'm far from having figured it out yet.

It's a lot of try and error, and I'm doing it in the bricks, not LDD, to see how the color tones match in real light. As an example, the long stretch of tan shown above (a 2x16 plate) has already been replaced by a mix of tan, dark tan and reddish brown plates. It seemed fine in LDD, but in real bricks it just didn't look realistic.

And -- who knows? -- at the end maybe I'll switch themes from trains to SW and use the chassis for a Java sandcrawler or some other worn-down vehicle from Tatooine instead 🤔

Neighbor Rhonda has something new in her garden! These are showy and the spikes are about 1 foot tall, with the whole plants growing to 8 to 10 feet. Native to Africa and it's said if you rub the leaves they smell like popcorn. Some say they smell like wet dog. I've got to go back and rub the leaves and give my verdict.

The verdict is in. I crushed some leaves and sniffed and it smells like burnt toast to me.

When you step out of your comfort zone and try something new.... that is when the magic happens

Day 181 of 365 days.

I guess I hope maybe this will turn into something more.

Happy Valentines Day!!! Today was pretty nice. I really enjoyed seeing everyone receiving gifts from loved ones. It was so cute!! I could feel love at my school. :) We also had a talent show assembly which was really nice. There is a lot of talent at my school! Plus, we got to leave 20 minutes early. Which of course was awesome since I got a Shamrock shake. But not gonna lie, I was kind of a little down when I was home alone for a couple hours because I then wished I had my own valentine. But life goes on. & things could be way worse. I am surrounded by my loving friends, and family. That's all I could ask for.

Ps- I am really tired of getting little feedback. So comments off.
