"Snack" is an acrylic on 16 x 20" Textured Clayboard and painted from life. It's part of my ongoing series of still lifes based on set ups rather than photos.

I've always loved Fiesta Ware - particularly this lovely Shamrock Green shade. The Braeburn is a nice compliment to the green.

I was checking to see if the kestrels had returned to their winter hunting grounds. Didn't find them but the dry prairie grasses were full of their favorite snacks. The kestrels eat grasshoppers like potato chips all winter long.

The bumble bees are loving the cosmos right now and frequently spend the night nestled into the center of the flowers.

some images of local snacks

i was actually attracted to the bright lights of this new snack store so i approached for some photos and info about their products, cassava cake and pichi pichi. both of these delicacies are made from grated cassava mixed with sugar then steamed. the only difference is the presentation. what the attendant is showing is pichi pichi, overflowing with fresh grated coconut

This is a "Persian" ... a special Tasty Snack invented here in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada in the early 20th century. and sold only here and around the region. It's a cinnamon bun with a sweet berry icing (cherry? strawberry? raspberry? ...the secret recipe has Persian lovers debating the issue!). Ex-Thunder Bay-ites across Canada have been known to have the local bakery send them Persians to satisfy the need for a Tasty home-city Snack.

Ruaha National Park, Tanzania

It was after lunch and we had just returned to our banda. The local Yellow Baboon group were prancing back and forth across the river bed and really seemed to be enjoying themselves. This one found a tasty something-or-other in the shallows and stopped to eat it, all the while keeping an eye on the rest of the troop. The light was just lovely and we spent a happy half-hour watching them before hey returned to the river bank and all went quiet.
