9.8 Build update on the Narcissus Shuttle Interior - ALIEN (1979) - 1:18 Scale.
Began building the front piloting stations to the shuttle, as well as continuing my sculpt build for the duct work that drapes along the forward, port side of the craft’s interior.
Much of what you see is the framework of the build. Seam filling and detail come later. I do add detail (like the duct work) when able but for the most part, the detail will come later.
I’m trying to visualize how the front viewports will work….the build, depth and angle.
I INTEND to eventually build a cover for the interior which will be the Narcissus exterior…A shell of the top portion of the shuttle. That or some sort of ornate exterior to bring the interior and exterior of the diorama together. Currently the assembled diorama measures 24” wide by 28” long and takes up half the table space of my drafting table. Fortunately it’s extremely modular so it can be broken down and stored away.
I’ve been using the book ALIEN: The Blueprints (by Graham J. Langridge) as my guide for the build as of late. Most of the initial build was based solely on the production set images I was able to gather. In the book, I noticed that a bathroom exists in the rear, starboard storage/utility room. Because I didn’t pick that detail up till late, all I can do is add a faux access door that would lead to it.
Having fun with the build but have some figures and other build projects that need some attention. Also thinking about doing a couple diorama pieces from the new Alien: Romulus film. This past week there has been a flood of concept and creative images released related to the film and it is beyond inspirational! I can’t help but want to build something from it.
More to come this week! Have a great one, be safe and thanks for checking out the latest update!

8.19 - Build update on the Narcissus Shuttle Interior - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale.
Progress on sculpting the duct work detail to the left, forward wall of the shuttle. Tons of duct work flowing in and around an operations unit possibly used for engine or life support purposes. Whatever it is, it needs a ton of duct work! LOL!
Funny , but while watching Alien: Romulus the other day I found myself counting the amount of duct work the used for each set…which was quite a bit LOL!
Rolling out Aves FIXIT Sculpt and sculpting each length of tube as the epoxy approaches full cure so the tackiness no longer is an issue. Shaped the tubes to fit the contours of the ship structure, detailed the tubing a bit more to show wear and tear and moved on to the next length of tube.
I have to build out more of the forward wall to continue with the duct work that will eventually complete this panel and allows me to begin working on the cockpit of the shuttle.
More updates on the way!

Build update on the Narcissus Shuttle Interior - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale.
Progress on building the framework and detail to the left, forward wall of the shuttle. I call this the “tube wall” with all the duct work flowing in and around the structure. Perhaps it’s the environmental station? Not sure what it is but I know one thing for sure, it’s busy!
Frame work being built from sheet styrene with added sculpt details of the “compressor” that I hand sculpted a couple weeks back then made a plastic cast of it for the build. The lower half is a part cut away from a GI Joe Defiant shuttle playset. I’ve been rebuilding my Defiant and have a bunch of junk, broken parts that I have salvaged to use with builds such as these. I couldn’t find a clear image of what is located here so I improvised. I think it translates well
There’s more to the framework that needs to be built before I begin creating the duct work to fill the area. This particulate wall will be holding a bit more weight do to the heft of the epoxy so I want to be sure of the stability.
Also, molds have been made to various figure project pieces, including the Fondor Haulcraft chair seen last week. Will make some casts tonight to see how everything turned out.
More updates on the way!
