9.8 Build update on the Narcissus Shuttle Interior - ALIEN (1979) - 1:18 Scale.
Began building the front piloting stations to the shuttle, as well as continuing my sculpt build for the duct work that drapes along the forward, port side of the craftâs interior.
Much of what you see is the framework of the build. Seam filling and detail come later. I do add detail (like the duct work) when able but for the most part, the detail will come later.
Iâm trying to visualize how the front viewports will workâŚ.the build, depth and angle.
I INTEND to eventually build a cover for the interior which will be the Narcissus exteriorâŚA shell of the top portion of the shuttle. That or some sort of ornate exterior to bring the interior and exterior of the diorama together. Currently the assembled diorama measures 24â wide by 28â long and takes up half the table space of my drafting table. Fortunately itâs extremely modular so it can be broken down and stored away.
Iâve been using the book ALIEN: The Blueprints (by Graham J. Langridge) as my guide for the build as of late. Most of the initial build was based solely on the production set images I was able to gather. In the book, I noticed that a bathroom exists in the rear, starboard storage/utility room. Because I didnât pick that detail up till late, all I can do is add a faux access door that would lead to it.
Having fun with the build but have some figures and other build projects that need some attention. Also thinking about doing a couple diorama pieces from the new Alien: Romulus film. This past week there has been a flood of concept and creative images released related to the film and it is beyond inspirational! I canât help but want to build something from it.
More to come this week! Have a great one, be safe and thanks for checking out the latest update!

HL2 metro cop helmet. Testing the cure of smooth-on Rebound 25 on West Systems Epoxy. There didn't seem to be any curing problems on this surface. Note that the clay at the bottom is Monster Clay which is sulfur free and shouldn't case a problem. The knobs at the front will be used for registration to a mother mold.
Build/Sculpt update on the Nostromo Sleep Chamber - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale.
Focus has been fitting the sleeping Parker figure snuggly into his chamber. This is the last of the seven passengers to be "put to bed" so to speak.
The bedding was sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt, allowed to cure a few hours then shaped to the contours of Parker so the fit can be snug and exact. I don't need him to be rolling around in the chamber pod.
So each chamber pod is unique to their character. Next will be some patch work to clean up the chamber pods - Small air holes from the casting that need to be filled and sanded.
I have several pod canopies that need to be completed with sculpted framework. Then I have to figure out how to present the chamber with pod doors both closed and opened. I need to figure that out before I begin to attach each pod to the central hub and fill seams.
I have three more characters to mold and cast - Sleeping Ash, Sleeping Kane and Sleeping Dallas. I have castings for the remaining crew.
I may attempt to mold/cast each of the pods as well. With them having unique contours to the bedding, it would suck to have to sculpt all that again if I decided to replicate another chamber down the road.
Anyway, I ramble as usual. Thanks to those that stuck with it and read through the entire description. I sometimes feel I waste my time even explaining my creative process these days. I sometimes feel I do it more for myself than anyone else LOL!
More to come! Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Sculpt update on the 1:18 scaled âTropical Rainforest Cantina Creatureâ concept from Ron Cobb - Star Wars 1977.
The head and the body have been completed for awhile now and itâs time to work on the creatures many leafy appendages. I sculpted a single leaf, detailing both front and back (back not photographed). I kept it simple and long as the concept art entailed.
I have built a mold box for the leaf and will cast several - 8 total. Then, with the help of a heat gun and patience, will shape each casting to produce a standing structure for the torso, with a couple to be shaped as âhandsâ.
Very curious how all this will work out. Iâve shaped thin castings before with much success. Weâll see how it all works out.
Iâm also thinking about sculpting a cantina seat/table (used in the concept art) to go along with the figure and sculpt a sitting version with more limited articulation.
