THRILLING isn't the word to describe what I'm feeling right now after receiving these pictures from Jean-Pierre Jeunet this morning of my Newborn (Alien: Resurrection) head sculpt on display along with various other miniatures made by fellow artists, Kazuhito Kimura, Dominique Roche and the director himself, Jean-Pierre Jeunet!
So happy and thankful once again for the opportunity to contribute to a beautiful display full of brilliant work. I'm honored to be part of it!

Sculpt update on "Sleeping Ripley" - Narcissus - ALIEN 79 1:18 scale.
How about it! A sculpt of Ripley all covered up! LOL! Got a lot of grief after my last update if you can believe it. Must be doing something right then. LOL! This is a separate sculpt by the way...another update of "topless" Ripley is coming soon.
Seriously now, this sculpt is of Ripley featuring the bedgown she wore at the end of the film where she tucks herself in for the unexpectedly extended sleep.
Made some changes to the hair, sculpted the gown and sculpted the hands in the correct position which will help me build up the arms accurately to complete the piece.
Next up is finishing a sleeping Jonesy (cat) and fitting her into the Narcissus sleep chamber.

Here is what a painted head cast of the Fifield Monster (Prometheus - 1:18 scale) looks like straight out of the mold after casting the Smooth-On Crystal Clear 3000 membrane around it. Very rough and will need some TLC once the casting material cures completely (still has several hours to harden). This is the space at the front of my attic, where the Blythe Mode shoe molds are filled. Polyurethane begins life as two components, one of which (the diisocyanate) is rather nasty. Because of this, the work must be done with gloves and respirator, with good ventilation (hence the 1600 CFM window fan) and well away from one's living space.
With the release of NECA's concept alien figure recently I thought it may be worthwhile to create the variant using my sculpt at 1:18 scale. Torso and head parts have been clear cast using Smooth-On Crystal Clear 300 and slight color tints using white and yellow. Each piece will be dry brushed so the skin will appear translucent. Articulation will be limited...A personal preference, don't feel it needs to be super articulated as a concept. #alien #translucent #concept #NECA #nostromo #smoothon #crystalclear300
My basement flooded a couple of winters ago, and this workspace became unusable. Even the fume hood blower (lower right) succumbed to water damage. Over the past week, I've salvaged the usable raw materials, bought some new materials, and hacked the motor on the blower to make it work again. I removed the motor's rusted out centrifugal switch and replaced it with an external 1-second time-delay relay. This hack works because the motor isn't subjected to variable loading that might cause it to stall; once it's up to speed, it stays there until I unplug it.

I'm close to completing the mouth of the Alien Queen - finished sculpting the lower gum line around the teeth of the lower jaw. Also started to flesh out the lower jaw a bit but have much more detailing to add before it's considered complete.
Both the top and lower set of teeth have been sculpted separate and will be cast eventually using a semi-clear resin..or crystal clear, and painted afterward.
This coming week I want to complete the teeth and lower jaw and set up the components to the head for molding and casting. From there we go to the neck as well as the Queen's inner jaw.

So here's a couple images of the build work so far for the Cafeteria Corridor of the Nostromo - Alien 79 - 1:18 scale. Nothing too flashy- still looking rough while building but later things will begin to tighten up. My original plan was to have the more familiar (movie featured)side of the corridor have accessible cabinets and the other side sealed....yet when I began to build I focused on the "sealed" side first unintentionally and found myself building in shelves. (rolls eyes) so...both sides will have accessible cabinets. - I feel lie I'm building a vintage sci-fi dollhouse at times LOL! #alien #nostromo #cafeteria #cornbread #sith_fire30

Haven't cleaned the cast yet - plan on doing that this evening. Back to sculpting for next week then later begin building the ALT entrance panel (opposite of the MUTHUR entrance) as well as building the small corridor that leads to the MUTHUR computer. Then paint all three panels at once. "Small moves, Ellie, small moves".....

This week I worked on the body of the creature, namely the arms (upper and lower) as well as the hips and upper legs.
Plenty of adjustments to be made to the muscular folds and definition through the hips/pelvis. Happy with the proportion of the elongated arms vs. the length of the torso.
Going to work on the hips some more but begin working on the hands and add more definition to the lower arms.

I cut the shim from the edges of the puppet and found that it stood up very well even without the tiedowns fastened.i had to re sculpt the arm (she only has one) because the original was proportionately too big.
Build/Paint progress on "The Beast" -Translucent concept variant - 1:18 scale. Building this little bugger is no picnic, it's the payoff that makes it worth it...not in the monetary sense (it's a personal project) but the satisfaction of creating something from nothing. Nostromo Corridor Update - 1:18 scale - ALIEN 79. Some of the first B deck corridor pieces - I think it's B Deck. It can get confusing sometimes. Where I am quite comfortable of my whereabouts on A, below that I can get lost. I know one thing...C deck is the basement...where the monster lives. Anyway, the detail is taken to a whole new level the deeper you go into the craft. I need to create some additional greeblie panel work while I go deeper. To get here from step 7 took sawing with a coping saw, some Dremelling, much filing and sanding and some carving/shaving with a scalpel.

Completed castings of the upper torso for the Alien Warrior - ALIEN 86 - 1:18 scale. Molds came out great for each piece, and the castings reflect that. No problems - which surprises me for all the complexity but enough venting in the right places makes for happy resin castings. The "pipes" are casts taken from my 79 Alien, attached temporarily using some wax clay. I will also be using the lower torso sculpt from the 79 beast for the warrior...no need for a do over in the sculpting department.
I see why toy companies like to reuse parts..saves money and time (as long as they are used properly). Want to begin working on the arms soon. Cast using Smooth On Smooth Cast 320.
