This is almost as far as I got before I gave up and switched to 110lb cardstock. Franky it was too far. What a waste of time.

Easier to use that a strap or clamps, these wing nuts provide enough even pressure to keep the inner mold halves aligned and firmly pressed together.

Made just a few passes at it with an emery board, looks great!

Sculpt progress on the Alien Queen - ALIENS 86 - 1:18 scale.

Molding time! Time to mold the first of many parts that will be made to create this beautiful beast. First piece for replication will be the carapace (crown). This will be a two part mold, and as usual, I run out of product before I have a chance to finish! :(

I got the first half of the molding process complete - have ordered more material and it should be in my hands a couple days from now.

Built the mold box from foam core and used monster clay for the blocking. Applied a brushing of mold material (Smooth-On Mold Star 15 Slow) over the entire sculpt and surface, then made my pour. Several hours later, inverted the mold and cleared the monster clay to begin the second phase....coming later this week.

Will add more venting prior to doing my first cast. Much more to come...got some painting to do!!!

Paint progress on the Newborn - 1:18 scale - Alien: Resurrection. Musée Miniature et Cinéma piece for director Jean-Pierre Jeunet and the CARO / JEUNET expo.

Working on the first couple layers of the face, eyes, mouth. Very fleshy at this stage - want to highlight it out a bit with some aged whites or even lighter tans with a hint of greens running through it. Will begin moving toward the back of the head and neck over the next day or so.

Difficult for me to work on this piece all in one day due to my work and home schedule so I'm doing the best I can- Living for a quiet weekend. To have more time to paint this and much more.

Hope you enjoy the works in progress... #aliens #alien #newborn #painting #sculpture #customactionfigure #miniature #caro_jeunet

The seam line doesnt look perfect, but I'll have to cast it and see, It can be trimmed carefully with an x-acto to fix some minor problems.

Paint test for the Newborn head sculpt - Alien: Resurrection.

As said, this is a paint test...not much detailing added, it helps me figure what paints necessary, as well as custom mixes that may be needed. Also helps to familiarize myself with the terrain so to speak...so I don't screw up on a final casting. Simply put - it's a practice piece.

There's many interpretations of the creatures skin color - some have it fleshy, pale appearance (like seen in the film), others have a greenish/gray hue. I will stick with the production/prop tones (which is a mix of both) for this piece. Love the dark, soulless eyes...ohhhh eerie!

I have my paint selected, mixed and ready to begin the final application for the sample that will be on display in France during the Caro/Jeunet expo in October. Updates coming soon! #painting #newborn #alien #customactionfigure #monsters

6/4 Sculpt Update on the Ron Cobb "Revwien" Cantina Creature concept for Star Wars: A New Hope. 1:18 scale.

The head sculpt is complete! I spent an hour or so rolling tiny, irregular balls of epoxy and allowing them to cure overnight. From there I either used the whole ball or cut them in half and glued them to the surface of the neck, wrapping around the "stamens" I created earlier. As chaotic as it may look, there is a bit of order to this - smaller balls toward the top, just under the eyes and then more at the base of the neck along with larger, irregular pieces to fill in the center.

I used superglue. Liberally. I don't want to see pieces missing a year from now or find the pieces embedded into the mold I created...

This brings me to my next concern, the mold. I know that superglue tends to impede the curing process for mold material. In my experience however, working with the mold material I've been using for years, I rarely have that problem as I usually allow anything that is bonded with superglue several days to cure before mold making. Note, I've used two types of mold material over the years...

Smooth-On Mold Star 15 (Slow) Platinum Cure

Smooth-On Mold Max 14 NV

This will be my next challenge, along with the beginnings of the body sculpt which appears to be an inverted floral bulb. I'm thinking of a core sculpt, no detail to begin with, along with a ball joint for the neck and a clear stand at the base for additional stabilization.

More updates to come! I have other figures that need attention so expect some love to be shown for them here soon! Thanks again for your continued interest and please, any questions, post them below

Smooth-on "Smooth Cast 300" + "So Strong" color.

Head 1) 2 yellow + 1 flesh .. ooops it's bright bright neon yellow. Think Monster High bee girl.

Head 2) 2 yellow + 1 flesh + 2 white

Head 2) 1 flesh + 3 white.. it's nice pinky color.. a little too pink for me..

In the end, I ended up making my own custom color mix by taking 1oz of part B and adding 1 red, 3 yellow. Then adding only 3-5 drops of that mix to my resin. Will post photo of results later.
