This page is from my sketch book for my current project "What should I wear today - who am I?".
This is focussing on a women's role and how what we wear influences how others perceive us.
I am concentrating on a Suffragette theme and how a woman in the early 20th century would decide what to wear.
I have completed the outfits for "The wife" and "The mother" and I am now looking at "The prisoner".
Old photographs are fascinating and very helpful.
Working in miniature ( each dress will be smaller than three inches) presents its own problems.
Still a long way to do and the deadline is in three weeks

“You see, sketches are the very soul of an artist. They are fresh, they are meaningful and often more beautiful than the painting” –DeGrazia
DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun is open daily from 10:00-4:00.
Sketch from memory.
I was with a piece of A4 paper and a ballpoint in my hand doing a job in the furniture ware house when suddenly an animal - I believe it was a 'Garangan' (small Asian mongoose) or herpestes javanicus - appeared running so quick by the wall fence behind the grass. Then I tried to record what I'd seen on this A4 paper. I've never had a close encounter with this animal before. Man ... it moved so quickly.
This was only a 5 minute pose but after several in which I'd taken the whole time on a single sketch I felt like doing several quicker sketches of the same pose. I switched from charcoal to conté so I could work multiple sketches on the same page and keep them distinct.
For this pose, Meg (the model) was facing directly away from where I was sitting initially, so I decided to do my first sketch from that position.
I abandoned my first attempt as I had started too close the middle of the paper and wanted to work left to right. Rather than rub it out, I switched to a fresh sheet of paper. I probably spent about 2 minutes on the first sketch here, a minute on the second one and only around 15 seconds on the last one.
Probably my favourite author at the moment. Such a pity that he is simply known by many as the racy author of the tropic of cancer. He is so much more than that. Recently I read the new york trilogy by him Sexus, Plexus, Nexus. However I read them in the wrong order by accident, coming to Plexus the middle one now. I wondered why the plot line seemed a little strange ha.
Noch immer ist es winterlich kalt: Wir treffen uns zum "urban sketchen" im VAPIANO vor dem Stadttheater.
This is probably the best drawing in the China sketch book. Maybe because I had little time, the others were moving away, I had to make my marks fast! This guy was carved right out of the living rock.
A 20 minute sketch that turned out better than expected :D
It was a spur of the moment thing and a bit of a test so I dont fall out of it.
Based on Original Drawings by John Higgins.
Also: I do have some Lego uploads soon (mainly scenes) so keep your hair on :P
