Paint test for the Newborn head sculpt - Alien: Resurrection.

As said, this is a paint test...not much detailing added, it helps me figure what paints necessary, as well as custom mixes that may be needed. Also helps to familiarize myself with the terrain so to speak...so I don't screw up on a final casting. Simply put - it's a practice piece.

There's many interpretations of the creatures skin color - some have it fleshy, pale appearance (like seen in the film), others have a greenish/gray hue. I will stick with the production/prop tones (which is a mix of both) for this piece. Love the dark, soulless eyes...ohhhh eerie!

I have my paint selected, mixed and ready to begin the final application for the sample that will be on display in France during the Caro/Jeunet expo in October. Updates coming soon! #painting #newborn #alien #customactionfigure #monsters

Darth Malgus says..."Preorder my game....Bitches!" :)

WIP paint app. of my 1:18 scale head sculpt of Darth Malgus as seen in the Hope cinematic trailer when he smiles to the republic commander as he runs one of his men through with a lightsaber. Sith personification...Still a work in progress, have some additional colors to add to the trama he's suffered from the first grenade explosion.

From the Dark Horse comic series Knights of the Old Republic, written by John Jackson Miller, comes my completed Zayne Carrick as he appeared in part four of Commencement.

Big, heavy and well worn, Zayne's suit has been sculpted and painted to appears to be a mix of woven material, leather and a lightweight metal alloy which includes a working removable helmet and PlSS (Primary Life-Support Subsystem) backpack.

The figure features a removable helmet! - The helmet is made from the plastic capsule you get from a gumball machine; scored, weathered and scratched to look used and worn out.

From the Dark Horse comic series Knights of the Old Republic, written by John Jackson Miller, comes my completed Zayne Carrick as he appeared in part four of Commencement.

Completed Sian Jeisel from the Dark Horse comic series - Star Wars: Republic. The figure is 3.75" high and sculpted using Aves FIXIT two-part epoxy and painted using Floquil Acrylics. Visit sithfire.blogspot.com/ for additional details.

Darth Malgus from the upcoming Bioware game Star Wars: Old Republic. You've seen this dark lord in the "Hope" trailer - he will have alternate damaged body armor and an alternate head featuring the respirator seen in the "Decieved" trailer.

Completed "Stage 1" Malgus head sculpt as he appeared in the beginning of the Hope theatrical trailer. A second head sculpt will reveal battel damage and the third will include the respirator. I have also completed the detail to the neck.

The body may look a bit clumsy right now, but it all has a purpose.

Malgus will appear as he did from both Old republic theatrical trailers - He will include two alternate head sculpts. I am working on a trio of Imperial Troopers to go along with him :)

I hope these early images show you how much effort goes into creating these figures - probably the most difficult part of building one of these is the early stages, creating a working armature that will allow the articulation I want as well as support the sculpt work I intend to apply.

work in progress images of the sisters with focus on the head sculpts. I have completed sculpting one of them so far. The other will be slightly different, with an identical facial sculpt but altered hair braid. Although the the facial sculpts are identical, I will apply different paint schemes to differentiate between the two. You'll notice one is shorter than the other...this is of course intentional. I plan on retooling the hips and legs for better articulation...not happy with how they work with the sculpt currently.

The early work in progress on my 1:18 scale articulated sculpt of MGS4 Raiden. The frame is a reduced microman body using Aves FIXIT for my sculpting material.

I've taken a series of photos that show the early work into getting the Savage Opress's frame constructed as well as some early stages into the sculpt. These series of photos show the work up on the newly constructed frame. I have began sculpting additional details to the head, as well as building the neck and shoulders.

Testing the attachment of the hose and wires from the oxygen tank (that is affized to the back using magnets) to the back of the helmet.

Nera Dantels was a female smuggler who worked for the rebel alliance as seen in the short lived Dark Horse Comics series Rebellion. I am currently working on the main body sculpt and head. May have to revisit the face a bit because it appeares to be too thin. More details coming soon :)

My first diorama (or playset I like to call it )- The Legacy Sith Temple - Inspired by the Dark Horse comic series Star Wars Legacy. It's under construction and when finished will be multiple levels of Sith architecture with power doors and various ancient Sith columns/sculpture.

Sculpt progress on the Newborn - Alien: Resurrection - 1:18 scale. Sculpt using Aves FIXIT Sculpt by Aves Studio LLC

Began sculpting detail to the upper torso as well as building the shape to the lower half. The main articulation point in therein body will be a ball joint just below the ribcage separating the upper/lower torso. Finer details have not been added yet - I work in stages when sculpting with epoxy since it usually only has a 4 hour cure time.

Hope you enjoy the new work in progress pics. More project updates coming soon. #alien #alienresurrection #newborn #miniature #customactionfigure #avesfixitsculpt #sculpture #ripley8 #studioadi studioADI

1:18 Scale custom sculpt of Jedi Dass Jennir from the Dark Horse comic series Star Wars Dark Times. Sculpt is complete, working on the paint application - Sculpt was created using Aves FIXIT.

Using Floyquil acrylics for paint application...

Darth Malgus from the upcoming Bioware game Star Wars: Old Republic. You've seen this dark lord in the "Hope" trailer - he will have alternate damaged body armor and an alternate head featuring the respirator seen in the "Decieved" trailer.

With the first head sculpt completed, I am now working on the removable chest piece - which will come in two variations...damaged and undamaged - this recreates the damage Malgus recieved by the grenade attack on Alderaan. I have decided to use only one magnet and combine that with a wraping suit of chest armor that will go over the neck joint and around the upper chest and back. The magnet will help keep it from slipping off. This photo shows the target mark of where I will place the magnet.

Sculpt update of The Queen - ALIENS - 1:18 scale. Sculpt made from Aves FIXIT Sculpt by Aves Studio LLC.

Centering my attention on the inner section of the "crown" which I outlined in my last update. With this detail complete, I will begin building up the remaining surface of the carapace. Updates coming soon!!! #aliens #queen #egglayer #eggs #hive #xenomorph #ripley #alien #nostromo #sulaco #customactionfigure #sculpting #avesstudio #fixit #miniature

An update to my ultimate Darth Vader - I have completed the body sculpt and have added a coat of black paint to the form but haven't added shading nor any details yet. My main objective right now is to create three Vader helmets, each having a distinct look to the episode they appeared in (A New Hope, Empire and Jedi) The helmet for ANH is more of a combat ready version, dulled out and worn. I think I'm close to achieving the look - but I think the eye pieces need to be larger. Once I have the look down, the only difference I see with the other two would be the shine and shape of the dome piece. After I have finalized all three, I will go back and create a helmet that can be broken down into the three components. After that, sculpts of Vader's head to fit the helmets, and possibly additional articulation to the body. So I have a looonnngg way to go :)

I'm currently working on some sculpt adjustments to Vamp...after being away from the project for awhile, I've realized some corrections that need to be made. In this image I have began resculpting and thickening the waist - the original sculpt had the waist too slim. and threw the figure out of proportion. This figure has primarily been sculpted over a microman skeleton for ultimate articluation...I will be reworking the head and the arms and continue the work on the legs. Belt, knife and other accessories will be added later...

I've taken a series of photos that show the early work into getting the Savage Opress's frame constructed as well as some early stages into the sculpt. These series of photos show the work up on the newly constructed frame. I have began sculpting additional details to the head, as well as building the neck and shoulders.

A WIP of my sculpted Del Moomo - one of the Moomo brothers from Knight of the Old Republic - Ithorian bounty hunters. 1:18 scale. Partial head, upper and lower torso, upper/lower legs and upper/lower arms sculpted with Aves FIXIT.

Completed Sian Jeisel from the Dark Horse comic series - Star Wars: Republic. The figure is 3.75" high and sculpted using Aves FIXIT two-part epoxy and painted using Floquil Acrylics. Visit sithfire.blogspot.com/ for additional details.

Sculpt update to the Praetorian Xenomorph (egg morpher) - Alien: Defiance - 1:18 scale work in progress.

Sculpt using Aves FIXIT from Aves Studio LLC

Forgive the skinny arms and clay spots holding everything together LOL! Using some wax clay to bring in all the parts to show how the figure is coming along. The arm frames are prior castings of the 79 Alien along with acrylic rods to make the appendages longer - the length of the creature's limbs are to be exaggerated just bit. In my opinion the elongated limbs brings with it that "creep" factor. The next step will be to sculpt the arms and begin work on the tail...which will conatin a good amount of detail.

More to come! #alien #aliens #darkhorsecomics #defiance #aves #avesfixit #sculpting #xenomorph #praetorian #eggmorphing #customactionfigure

Darth Malgus as a Sith Acolyte - RAGE version! After seeing the "Return" trailer I knew I needed to have a sculpt showing some of Malgus' fury. I now have a total of 8 alternate heads to this custom figure - crazy!

My completed sculpt of Shado Vao - this guy took awhile to complete, went through a few revisions. He will include two additional head sculpts - one which is still being sculpted. Will be interesting on how I keep paint from getting on the soft goods :)

K'kruhk is off the shelf and back on the workbench! Shown is the completed head with two working alternates...

Here's Jennir with the cowl removed completely - the cowl is a seperate sculpted piece made from the FIXIT epoxy. This material is incredible to work with - no limitations to what you can do with it. Props to Aves!

H2 was fun to create! The droid was once an R2-D2 figure, with heavy modifications to the sides, head, legs (removed) and undercarriage. The wings are made from styrene and epoxy with a small plastic tube threaded through the main body to either side. The head and wings have a full range of rotation. The clear stand was once that from a microman figure - works perfectly with H2.

Build update on The Queen - ALIENS - 1:18 scale.

Well,....the quest for a two part mold was a bust. Not a failure mind you, the mold is good but I wasn't clear that the mold release I was using needed to be petroleum based and NOT silicon based....which is like pouring fuel on a fire.

I'm not sure that's what happened - I need to investigate. This morning when I went to separate the two pieces (was very excited) it was like I poured a one piece block mold. Completely mended...not a trace of a seam line, nothing. So I had to cut the sculpture out of the mold.....I was very disappointed.

50 dollars a pop on molding material - so this cost me around 150.00....don't let people tell you this is an affordable hobby to get into.

Fortunately the mold can be used. Still need to cut some air vents here and there but all in all it came out very nice when capturing the details. I'll try it out tonight.

Would I have preferred a two part old? Absolutely! I may still produce one later on. Right now, I need to replicate a master and a few work copies in order to move forward with the project.

Lesson's learned...
