Paint progress on "The Beast" - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Thanks to some creative suggestions from many of you on how to make dripping saliva for the creature, I chose to use a dab of hot glue to create the effect you see here...very happy with the results!!!

I actually took it a bit further and coated the glue with clear gloss which will give it a little more strength. Plan to do this with the inner jaw as well! Added a scale shot (little out of focus).

Nostromo Bridge panel update - 1:18 scale - Alien 1979. Storage door detail and wire work complete. Lacking the control box for the door and a few minor details before molding and casting. Sculpt progress on the Newborn - Alien: Resurrection - 1:18 scale. Sculpt made entirely from Aves FIXIT Sculpt by Aves Studio LLC

I said "entirely" because it's the first figure I have created so far in which I haven't used a frame of any kind to sculpt upon. Total FIXIT with a little weight to it - makes it feel expensive LOL! I need to do a scale shot to show how it scales to my 3.75" figures in the series.

Working on completing the lower abdomen of the creature, which will connect via a ball socket to the upper torso...that comes later in the casting phase. Right now, all the parts will be connected via wire or wax clay. Haven't completed the back section of the lower abdomen yet.

Next step after finishing the lower abdomen will be the upper arms and the hips. I plan on tooling the arms with traditional shoulder joints with the hips being connected via ball sockets. This can all change as the sculpt progresses.

Starkiller's two head sculpts (standard and "rage") are original sculpts depicting the character from the concept art and not that of the actor. When I have time I will go back and sculpt an actor likeness.

The shoulder armor is a seperate piece and is attached by a clear band around the shoulder.

The body is a full sculpt using a custom made articluated frame or armature. The figure contains 14 points of articulation.

Included to hilts which are built from existing parts, can be attached to chest using clear banding. Also included are to sabers with attached beams. Lightsabers do not light up.

The arena robes are from the Darth Maleval box set and was altered/reworked then painted to give a worn look. Hood is from a VOTC Darth Sideous, altered and repainted.

Figure was sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt and hand painted using Testors Polyscale and Floquil acrylics.

Finished sculpting the feet of the beast and gained enough stability to remove the heels so happy to have them looking more accurate to the game model. I still have one more version to do before I return to sculpting the limbs. I want to do a "birth" version of the head turned up which will require a redo of the cranium sculpt, including neck and shoulders.

I have a build itch that's needing to be scratched so expect a return to the Nostromo build soon.

Had a muscle injury to deal with that put me out over the past week or so but back at it! More to come!!!

Nostromo Engineering corridor - ALIEN 1:18 scale. Wall deco - control stations within the corridors of the lower levels. Tthe film designers used the back of large television sets, glued them to the walls and gave them some greeblie work. paint and grime. The 1:18 scaled replica I built is out of sheet styrene. I plan to mold./cast the piece as is and add various greeblie work making each piece slightly different to one another offering interesting variations in the chaos of the lower decks. Amanda Ripley in EVA Suit - Alien: Isolation. 1:18 scale WIP. If you've play the game by Creative Assembly, you know Amanda changes into plenty o' EVA suits during the game so to make a version in a line makes sense. Took and existing head sculpt of Amanda Ripley, removed the pony tail and sculpted the flight cap over her head. So I misplaced my memory card for my camera and I'm stuck with sharing some crappy iPhone images of the Sulaco Sleep Chamber work in progress. ALIENS - 1:18 scale. I have the side railings complete, the next step is the protective cap and the canopy. Instead of vacuum forming the canopy though, I think I will build the frame and apply separate thick, clear acrylic sheets to the underside of the canopy within the frame. Completed cast prototype of "The Beast" - 1:18 scale, ALIEN (1979). Most of the figure you see here is put together by wired joints. I do have ball joints working in the shoulders, head, wrists and torso but the rest are being held together by bendable wire. Sufficient to give me a stable figure to look at and make any additional adjustments before creating the final painted version with full articulation. The tail is a static casting bent into shape before curing completely. The final version will be a bendy tail. I have several different head sculpts to go along with this custom piece - now that the body is very close to being finished, I can get back to concentration of the head sculpts and the rest of the crew. Build progress of the Nostromo - 1:18 scale ALIEN. The Observation Blister - I received the laser cut pieces I designed last week. Assembled the arch to the observation portal and sculpted the arc frame using Aves FIXIT. Will do the same to the opposite, exterior side and add the interior ribbing using styrene. A slow mover but the buildup is almost halfway done. Once the interior frame work is complete, I will begin sculpting the padding around the doors, begin work on the chambers ceiling and operations seat. Completed Jedi Master Luke Skywalker as seen in issue #3 of Star Wars Invasion by Dark Horse Comics. Luke is in command of Republic forces sent to the planet Rychel in order to repel the invading forces of the Yuuzhan Vong.

The figure was mostly sculpted in Aves Epoxy FIXIT sculpt using a plastic articulated armature. The forearms and hands have been recasted from original parts. The head originalted from a Legacy Snowspeeder Luke figure, casted in wax and completly retooled and refined adding additional markings to the face, age lines, a lower brow, hair and ears...I also strengthened the jaw. The figure measures 3.75" in height. Painted using Floyquil Acrylics by testors.

A bit stretched with it being the holidays and all - plenty of late night/early morning work last week since it was the only time I could find. Building each corridor wall is a chore but looks so good when a set begins to take shape. I'm presently working on the corridors stretching from the galley as well as the stretch of corridor that wraps around the Auto Doc (Medical Bay). Build progress on the Autodoc Medical station - Nostromo - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Completed the frame that supports the revolving bed - Two cylinders, one inside the other, made from sheet styrene. The bed mounts to the inner cylinder which glides across a fitted groove cut out from the outer cylinder. This will allow the bed to slide into the "MRI" chamber. When the bed is set out, a clear rod can be attached underneath to offer a touch more stability for display purposes. Next step is to build out the tower and finished detail to the bed. Sculpt progress on "The Alien" as seen in the Creative Assembly game release, Alien: Isolation. 1:18 scale. Using cast parts from my existing beast (alien 79) I am modifying the articulation, parts of the sculpt and will be creating new lower legs for the creature. The legs will not be as articulated as the former Big Chap but I'm not bothered by it. The head is also in the midst of some slight modification and I have created a ball socket in the neck to allow the head to lay farther back as it's form resembles more of a crouched, "dinosaur-like" creature than that of it's cousin. Nostromo Main Airlock 1:18 scale - Update. Alien 1979. Finished adding detailing! Unfortunately I could only find/make enough parts to fill one side of the chamber. This side will get a mold bath, then once released, a few parts will be removed to fill the other half which will in turn have a mold made. Patched up the holes where the wall racks will fit - for mold purposes. The tubes and straps seen in production images as well as the control consoles seen in the film will be added last before painting. Build update on the Nostromo - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Sorry for the delay - been a very busy week or so away from the custom world. Began building the framework for the MU-TH-UR 6000 chamber or "Mother" as I will call if from this point on. Also working on the portal between the chamber and the corridor that connects to it. Will be breaking out the Aves Epoxy to sculpt the padding around the door frame as well as the interior of the frame. The build for the chamber itself will be a slow process - I do intend and making it LED friendly so no worries to those that are curious. Completed the sculpt of the "control sticks" for each hand, "the interface" and detail along the back of the pilot's chair. I want to tackle the upper rear of the pilot chair before moving onto another project. Been a couple additional weeks than I planned to work on this piece but I'm "in the zone" so to speak and want to continue while not suffering a loss of interest. I'm doing this in my own time and not for a client so I have that luxury.

Crazy to think I look at this piece as becoming an "action figure accessory" or some part of a 1:18 scaled play set. It's where my mindset is...always has been since this ALIEN 79 project started. It just so happens that it's a sculpture study at the same time LOL!

I've taken care to be as accurate as possible to the Giger production version of the doomed pilot but I'm sure a few spots have emerged as "best interpretation" at this point. I'm not looking to be 100% spot on. I don't think anyone who has taken on this project has. I hope those of you who are die hard Space Jockey fans will be forgiving.

Build update on the Command Console Chair for the MU/TH/UR 6000 chamber - Nostromo - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. I already had some chairs made for other parts of the ship so I just whittled down a copy using a dremel and began sculpting new upholstry to the seat using Aves FIXIT sculpt. Usually the first attempt at a new alien dome would require at least one adjustment so that the dome "snaps" into place....This time though, success straight from the gate!!! This dome snaps perfectly onto the alien head and hugs the contours just underneath.

Images you see here are of both the master sculpt and initial cast with domes attached. I increase the tones in the images so you can see the shell of the clear dome.

After creating the vectors, I received several cut/etched parts needed to begin building the vestibule including the floor and two entrances. Next step is detailing of the pieces, molding/casting along with creating the walls that will bring the room together. With the release of NECA's concept alien figure recently I thought it may be worthwhile to create the variant using my sculpt at 1:18 scale. Torso and head parts have been clear cast using Smooth-On Crystal Clear 300 and slight color tints using white and yellow. Each piece will be dry brushed so the skin will appear translucent.
