Wilde and NAMTEC hosted a one-day awareness seminar on “Improving Design by Simulation: The Benefits of ANSYS to Industry”
The seminar held at NAMTEC on 16th October 2008 was a “resounding success” said David Deakin, Managing Director of Wilde.
Hosted by Wilde in conjunction with NAMTEC, seminar focused on the success companies have gained from the ANSYS range of CAD-integrated structural, thermal and computational fluid dynamics programs, both in-house and through the use of consultants.
More than 95% of delegates were satisfied with the event and found it “enjoyable, relevant and beneficial”.

The IU Kokomo School of Nursing and School of Education, in conjunction with Second Harvest, hosted a poverty simulation in which students try to live for in poverty for one month, condensed into an hour for the simulation. Various scenarios are assigned ranging from a single parent of 5 kids to a single person with no job and no home.
Understanding the impacts of vegetation on soil loss is important to helping land managers take care of the land. Through the use of large-scale rainfall simulation, we studied the impacts of brush removal on military training lands and how much soil is saved/lost before and after the land treatment.

My kids have dubbed this the "Summer Of Fun" and it's been somewhat hard living up to that title everyday. One thing that's been making it easier is the Regal Cinemas Summer Movie Festival. Every Tuesday & Wednesday at 10am they show 2 PG or G Rated Movies. This summer the schedule has been really great and we've seen a movie every single week.
It's also now turned into a nice way to motivate them to do things around the house because they enjoy saving their quarters so they can each play a game at the arcade when we leave. This is their favorite the Snowmobile race.
I found it funny that this week Dominic jumped on the back and held on while Johnny was playing.

Ok, this has nothing in common with photography (I guess). So, don't look at it :-D
We worked on that problem for some weeks. Here's the real experiment. The »Screenshot« above shows the velocity field of a moving (rotating) fluid. It was computed with Ansys CFX. The underlying phenomenon is called baroclinic instability (isobars and isotherms "cross" each other). High atmospheric baroclinity is characterized by formation of cyclones.
Why I uploaded this? I like the beauty of chaos. Take a look at this one, oh and this one too :-)
This was part of a simulation excercise between Metro Rail, Tshwane Emergency Services and the SAPD. They had to practise for in case something like a train derailing happened eventually and for all parties involved to be able to work together

This hurricane and motor vehicle accident is a mock scenario as part of the sixth UTHealth Houston Center for Interprofessional Collaboration Mass Casualty Incident Simulation. Volunteers in each scenario played victims to provide an educational training for students from Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston, McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, UTHealth School of Public Health, and UTHealth School of Biomedical Informatics.
