37416 was another recipient of one of Tinsley's unofficial names, becoming Mt.Fuji. It was one of several 37/4s that found their way to St.Blazey and is seen here nearing Sprey Point Teignmouth with 37674 Freight Transport Association on the 6S55 'Silver Bullets'. To the uninitiated these contained clay slurry for a Scottish paper mill. The date was 17th February 1994, the weather dull...(t233-34f)

A young enthusiast looks on as GB Railfreight's Class 66, 66711 "Sence" thunders through Hartford with the loaded china clay slurry tanks heading for Irvine Caledonian Paper (6S94).
When they were first intoduced these clay tanks were known as "Silver Bullets" they were highly polished and reflected everything on the lineside now, happily for the railway photographer, they are much more subdued. Dragging its train of grey bullets northward at Shaldon is EWS 66127, the train is at the early stage of the mammoth haul to Scotland, it is the 08.37 Burngullow to Irvine. The clay is used in the paper manufacturing industry to whiten the new paper.

Now consigned to history the Silver Bullets was the nickname for the 6S55. This was a trainload of clay slurry from Bungullow to Irvine, to be used in paper making. It was at the time the longest freight service by mileage in the U.K. The standard haulage was a pair of St.Blazey 37s. On the 4th January 1994 it appeared behind 37668+37521, both relatively recent imports to the depot, and both in metals livery, still with Cardiff depot plaques on the sides. Changes in operation affected this service; one of the more noticeable ones was that the budget for keeping the dedicated wagons clean and shiny went missing. They soon achieved a drab brake dust and kack shade of grey. (t231-31f)

GB Railfreight Class 92, 92033 leads classmate 92018 along with 66722 "Sir Edward Watkin" (both DIT) through an icy Hartford on 6O74 17:55 Irvine Caledonian Paper to Dollands Moor.
These were the empty china clay slurry tanks from the loaded train that ran a day late on Thursday 17th December and presented an opportunity to move the two 92s south to Wembley.
The positioning move to reduce the number of 92s in Scotland with the sleeper back down to one train in each direction per night, and also to facilitate 018’s onward transfer to Crewe ETD the following day for attention.
The 92s had earlier ran from Polmadie to Carlisle on 0M05.
66722 worked the train from the paper mill in Irvine to Carlisle and would also take the tanks onwards to Dollands Moor after the 92s came off at Wembley.
This was the first time since the night of 23rd August 2018 that a 92 had worked the china clays on the WCML (038 working 6M74 from Carlisle to Wembley on that occasion). Once a regular haunt of the Dysons, the flow is now the preserve of 66s, with the loaded train going via the (unwired) Settle & Carlisle route.

GBRf Class 92, 92 044 "Couperin" - the last operational 92 on Network Rail metals in Railfreight Triple Grey livery - powers the 6S94 loaded china clay tanks away from Acton Bridge station.
Class 66, 66 729 "Derby County", is Dead In Train (DIT) for this leg of the journey from Wembley to Carlisle, where 92044 will come off and recess to Carlisle station whilst 66729 takes the train forward away from the wires to Irvine Caledonian Paper.
EDIT: This was the last time a 92 would haul 6S94 on the WCML leg between Wembley and Carlisle. A combination of requiring the 92s to work additional tunnel traffic and routing via the S&C being preferred meant this long-term 92/electric flow moved over to the ubiquitous 66s.

Running 158 Late after a 2.5 hours wait in the Up Goods Loop at Rugby due to a wheelflat issue with one of the wagons, 6S94 finally makes it to cold and windy Cheshire.

One for Nathan...37670 + 37671 loomed through the murk at Aller on 16th December 1993. The 6S55 'Silver Bullets' again, when they were silver, heading for Irvine in Scotland. I believe this was the longest scheduled freight trip in the U.K. at the time? (t231-30f)
The days of JAL Cargo are numbered, the entire division will be terminated in October 2010.
