"Before the advent of 2-way radios, GPS, radar and all the other electronics that we seem incapable of going to sea without, vessels ventured around the globe with no other method of communicating than by signal flag.
Although not used much for sending long messages anymore it's an asset to be able to recognize each individual signal flags as they all have single letter meaning i.e. U = running into danger, Z = I require a tug,Q = my vessel is healthy and so on."
Simple signal control card to detect the polarity of 12v momentary pulses used for two-wire Kato N gauge points (turnouts), in order to set station throat LED signals via 4 bistable latching relays (which hold their state even when power is off). The onboard LEDs show the current state of each relay for diagnostics. DIL connector pins are soldered in pairs for increased resilience.

An invasive species in the UK, the fungal "crayfish plague" that they carry has wiped out the native "white-clawed crayfish" in most regions of the UK.
They can be identified by their large size when fully grown, their claws are larger in comparison to body size with turquoise/white markings at the hinge and bright orange/red colour under the claws.

Part of a series showing different signal "aspects" that control train movement. This signal is modified by two special features. The number plate identifies it as a "permissive" signal; when the signal is red, trains can stop and then continue at reduced speed. The "C" means that passenger trains are permitted to move ahead at higher speed than freight trains under certain conditions.
The green signal on the right indicates "Clear", which means that trains can continue ahead at their normal speed.

Small art quilt, sewn to a 14" x 14" X 1-1/2" stretched canvas. Machine stitched applique and quilting, hand embroidered and beaded. The outer border is cotton fabric that I fashioned into a ribbon, tied into simple knots, then glued to the canvas.
(The color is off -- the dark outer heart is more of a magenta.)

Today's job started off in the morning by planting a new concrete gate clapper post at Garvestone Level Crossing. This will allow us to fit a gate lock to the crossing and control the level crossing from a new ground frame. We then moved on to this post which was erected a couple of weeks ago. This is the view after the ladder had been fitted, but before we had attached any of the fittings.

The lever frame was reduced to 10 levers at some time and was left in situ after replacement in the 1980s by a British Railways London Midland Region individual function switch console. The signal box closed on 23rd October 1988 when the level crossing and North Erewash level crossing (which it had controlled by closed circuit television from 30th January 1977) became controlled from Trent signal box by closed circuit television

>>> Oeuvre
