We reached the end of the road on this pensinular and it would have been lovely to expore further, visit the signal station, see the sea on the other side, find a better spot for the flowering heather. But Ireland has no right to roam and no network of footpaths, which is sometimes very frustrating.

NS B14 passes by the Conrail era trilight signals at CP Belshaw in Belshaw Indiana on the Kankakee Line. Leading the train is a GP60 and a GP33ECO. Shooting trains on this line can be rather difficult with all daily road traffic abolished and routed elsewhere.
Former NBR High Street Goods signal box. Opened in 1904 and closed in 1967. Survived until the early 2000s despite the yard closing in 1982.
Surviving GSWR built Bell St goods bonded warehouse of College St goods in background. Apparently the premises were used by Scotch whisky blenders. Building now converted to flats.

Having a desire to snag a dramatic night photo of the searchlight signals in Old Monroe, Mo. was always on my to-do-list.
On this night, it worked out perfectly with the high clouds racing overhead and the glow of the city lights in the distance. I even got a little help with the cold weather because some of the folks in town had fires burning. Their smoke after filtering through the air was thin enough to help create the perfect flare from the signals' light.
Taken from the fence line surrounding the house track in Old Monroe, Mo. on the BNSF Hannibal Sub. on December 6th, 2015 just before a UCEX coal load ripped through town.
As sunlight fades behind the Lower Austrian Mountains, a westbound OBB Railjet passes by the long closed, but restored Breitensetein signal box.
Knocking off mile my mile and cruising at every bit of track speed train 107 with a LNG set up front splits the 63 signals in the middle of Dorena siding. The entire 20 hours or so on the FEC were irritating, frustrating and just rather interesting. From wild hogs going nuts in the woods next to me here, the homeless life in Saint Augustine coming out of the thicket and almost getting hit to just getting plan ole cloud fucked, and trains running way off schedule on a fairly scheduled railroad. FEC was not my friend this trip but I did still get a few decent trains.
This round mound of a mountain doesn't get much attention when one is at the iconic Oxbow Bend of the Snake River. Some rather craggy peaks like the "grand" one at the right does tho.
This is the northern section of Signal Mountain, with the 7720 foot summit to the SW. Incredible views of the Tetons from the top.

The mountain originally was formed by volcanic ashfall from one of the eruptions of the Yellowstone hotspot. With some time to kill and no interest in looking for VTR 263 this time since it had a blue leaser leading again I decided I'd go find a shot of Amtrak 55, the southbound Vermonter from St. Albans to Washington.
The north end of the 8887 ft. siding at Walpole North (MP 146.8) on the New England Central Railroad's Palmer Sub features a nice set of Boston and Maine era searchlight signals. Interestingly the northbound signal is offset and features a 'doll arm' with a rare blue light making for an interesting historic scene with the train splitting the classic signals.

After getting a fresh crew along the BNSF near Western Avenue, NS coal train S80 leaves the Windy City behind as it departs for Monroe, Michigan with BNSF SD70MAC #9650 in the lead. Here at 23rd Street, the train splits a unique set of signals on its way out of town.
US&S Automatic Block Signals 7584 and 7583 between control points at Lake Point and Erda, Utah on Union Pacific's Lynndyl Subdivision. In 2015, these units were replaced by new Safetran tricolor signals. July 24, 1993

Dodging the cloud shadow lingering to the north of Appleby, D8096 and D8107 race past Appleby North signalbox and through the lovingly restored Appleby station with 1Z32, the Seven Counties Rambler.
1Z32, 11.46 Carlisle to Preston.
The stations on this line are a credit to all the organisations involved in their upkeep. Appleby North signalbox has been refurbished in recent years and looks spotless. Together with its associated signals, it makes a really nice period photo.
After dropping some rail near mile 6 and 18 on the Fording sub, a CWR train heads south back to Sparwood where it would tie down for the night. Here we have it passing the signal on the approach to Elkview, the mine seen in the background.
Westbound UP train AGBMI (Gibson, IN to Mira Loma, CA) kicks up some fresh power with the CNW commemorative engine passing one of the few remaining CNW style signals on the Geneva Sub. Jan 31, 2014

This wooden signal box, of standard Highland Railway pattern, is adjacent to the steel swing bridge built in 1909 for the Highland Railway; it crosses the east end of the Caledonian Canal at this point.
Signal boxes are a distinctive and increasingly rare building type that make a significant contribution to Scotland's diverse industrial heritage. Of more than 2000 signal boxes built across Scotland by 1948, around 150 currently survive (2013) with all pre-1948 mechanical boxes still in operation on the public network due to become obsolete by 2021. The signal box at Clachnaharry is a small and little-altered 1890 'Type 3' box by McKenzie and Holland. This important signalling manufacturer provided the signalling for much of the Highland Railway during the late 19th century. Other survivals of this once widespread type are a particularly large example at Aviemore Station and the North box at Boat of Garten Station on the preserved Strathspey Railway line.

Union Pacific's daily Ogden - Cheyenne manifest pulls its 75-car train under signal bridge 9469 between Baskin and Emory, Utah in Echo Canyon on June 27, 1992. UP's signal and cantilever bridges were removed from the Evanston Subdivision two decades ago. They were a necessity for signal aspect viewing when this left-hand running railroad operated steam locomotives with very long boilers. Not much of a problem for a crew in an SD40-2 with a low hood.
