Older Eagle traffic signals along TX 7 at TX 6 Business in Marlin, Texas. This is somewhat of an anomaly since most Texas signals are pole-mounted horizontal signals

NR25 was brought to a standstill on the approach to Hovell Street in Wodonga due to the road crossing signals not activating back in 2005.

Signal issues through this section of track proved difficult this day with the train stop starting another two times before clearing the High Street level crossing.

A great signal generator that can be had for a very reasonable price. Thousands of these were made and many found their way to Canadian high schools as part of the electronics program. Also available in the Starkit name could be purchased in kit form and assembled by the end user. This is my everyday signal generator.

How could I resist not taking a photo of the loop from a new vantage point and then not sharing it.

It was a beautiful day for a hike along the East Coast Trail. This view of Signal Hill was taken from a point between Freshwater Bay and Blackhead. The entrance to Signal Hill and St. John's harbour, in the distance, is several miles away from where this photo was taken.

With the sky a brilliant blue above the thin cloud layer in this shot, was able to get some vibrant colours using the polarizing filter.

Another part of the time-warp of the railway at Clacton. The scheme to re-signal the area was deferred due to the normal lack of funds, but is now expected to be done in the early 2020s.

Lochmuir signal box was situated at the highest point on the main line between the Forth and Tay bridges at the summit of the climb from Markinch in the south and Ladybank in the north. It controled a passing loop and crossovers. The box was closed a few weeks after this photo was taken.

Caboose Makes Last Stop at the Heritage Museum in downtown Winter Garden Florida. Although the museum still looks like a train station, and even has signal arms mounted on its roof, the 50-year-old caboose has completed a scene from the city's past. "This is the birthplace of Winter Garden,'' said Jerry Chicone, a longtime resident of the city and a chief patron of the privately owned museum. "This town prospered because of the railroad.''

Still, newcomers may not know what to make of a caboose, a type of railroad car that served as a rolling home and lookout post for train crews.

Tracks that long ran through the center of Winter Garden were torn out a few years ago and replaced with the West Orange Trail for skaters, bikers and joggers.

Even before then, railroads had stopped using cabooses altogether.

Chicone said the museum had searched for a locomotive but jumped at the chance to buy a caboose from a Daytona Beach collector. The caboose cost about $18,000, while its truck and crane rides cost another $10,000.

Chicone wrote personal checks to bring the caboose to his hometown.

However, Florida Central Railroad in Plymouth paid for and installed the short stretch of track -- rock base, crossties and twin ribbons of rail -- where the 40-ton caboose is now parked.

The caboose isn't from the Atlantic Coast Line railroad, a well-known system from Florida's past. Instead, the caboose bears the name of the Chessie System on its side.

Chicone said he picked the Chessie caboose, retired from service in 1984, because of its tough, rot-resistant steel skin.

"Anybody who knows anything about trains knows this is the Cadillac of cabooses,'' Chicone said.

It may be the top of the line among cabooses, but accommodations are less than fancy.

Benches that also served as cots are made of painted wood. The air inside carries a strong whiff of old wheel grease spattered onto the caboose's underside. Even the crew spittoon is unpolished. But the view offered by the caboose couldn't be matched by any luxury automobile.

An observation deck pokes up from the center of the boxy caboose, providing a lookout in all directions from a dozen feet above the track.

Today's jobs saw us continue with the preparations at Garvestone for the installation of signalling control at the level crossing. We split into two parties for the morning, with one team installing about 75% of the wiring in G2 location cabinet, and the other working on the ground frame lead out.

Here is G2 location cabinet with the wiring for the 12V circuits completed. These feed the colour light signal and control the aspects, as well as feed back proving for the lamp and aspect to the main location. We have also made a start on the 110V feed to the track circuit feed unit, with the loc heater, battery charger and second track circuit to follow. Unfortunately the labelling machine didn't perform, so the temporary labels will be changed later on.

The top rail contains left to right: Thuxton24/Garvestone 4 signal ECR (lamp proving unit that switches to the bulb second filaments if the primary blows); T24/G4 GECR (lamp proving that proves that the signal is displaying an aspect and not unlit); Y TR (track relay for the train approaching diode track circuit); T24/G4 DR (50V relay that controls the green aspect on the signal, fed from T23 signal location); POR (power off detecting relay).

The second rail has AB Track Circuit Feed Unit. Underneath this on the third rail is the resistance unit associated with the diode track circuit.

The fuse holders and busbar returns are 110V on the left and 12V on the right. 12V circuits are battery backed and light the signal as well as proving both the red aspect being displayed and the lamp proving. Finally at the bottom are the links where incoming cables are connected into the location cabinet.

in the 70s, there was no PVs. when 3M 131 came in, they were the first high visibility signals installed on our streets.

As part of my growing railway layout, I am building a station complete with signal box.

Signals control traffic for both cars and cyclists.

The eastbound home signals at CP Howells Junction on the Metro-North Southern Tier. Formerly the split between the Erie's Main and Graham lines, this now serves as the eastern end of the 24,182 ft siding between here and CP OV in Otisville. The only remnant of the former passenger Main Line are the mileposts, which change from the Graham Line 76.6JS to the former Main Line's 69.1SR and up.

With the signal upgrades taking place on this line, this rare remaining Erie-era signal cantilever is slated to come down in a few short days.

Tone Poem- Yesterday I started experimenting with sound. It was my first time using Garage Band, and I am by no means a composer, but the imagery in my head lately has had sound attached.

I'd be curious to hear thoughts/comments.

Oddingley signal box, which is believed to date back to 1908 and situated between Stoke Works and Abbotswood Junctions on the main Birmingham to Bristol main-line, is one of the few surviving relics of a by-gone age on this route. It, too, will soon be discarded into history as it is due to close once the Bromsgrove re-signalling scheme becomes live. This was scheduled for between August and November 2015, but a later date is now likely, which means that this superb example of Midland Railway architecture will survive for a few months more. Nowadays it controls just the level crossing on Church Lane, which is approached from Oddingley village by a narrow hump-back canal bridge. The crossing keeper operates the gates by a key which interacts with the signalling centre at Gloucester which controls the route at this point. Made for GE traffic lights, it sports a GE logo on the face of the lens. These were used in the 30-mid 40's, roughly.

Typical British signal box but not based on any one in particular.

Complete with levers, control panel, radio, faux switching mechanism on the lower floor and most importantly a mug of TEA!

Originally I designed it to go with the Winter Toy Shop etc so it had snow on the roof, Christmas lights and icicles. I will probably convert it next Christmas.

The 40+ forest fires that are burning in Montana made for a very red-orange sunset on the evening of August 15th. The setting sun splits the two heads of this intermediate signal on BNSF's Big Horn Subdivision. This intermediate is between the sidings of Benteen and Dunmore. Unfortunately, no trains came along prior to light disappearing entirely.
