London Albert Memorial seen on a foggy December evening from Hyde Park. The memorial is illuminated by a powerful light on the Albert Hall; in the fog it created this sepulchral effect.

Watson there were three shots fired, two almost simultaneously, indicating a second gunman and thus showing Mrs. Hilton Cubitt could not be the murderer.

The picture & subject is less than 3 in wide, the set of characters appears know where in the manuscript and was hand written by a slightly arthritic 70 year old photographer early this morning.

Thought of the Day:

To my OWIP friends: Sorry about my absence but it seems that the older one gets the less time one has .......

Today something different than usual.

My Sherlock Magazine arrived today so I dressed for the occasion.

The best Watson Sherlock ever had. You will be missed.

The link between Baker Street Underground station and Sherlock Holmes is no pipe dream… 221 Baker Street, the home of the fictional detection, is just a stone’s throw from the entrance to the Tube.

Shaun in the City! The new trail around Bristol of 70 statues of Shaun the Sheep, designed by artists and celebrities. These statues will be auctioned to raise money for Wallace and Gromit's Children's Foundation created by Nick Park of Aardman Animations whose home is in the city.

This is my attempt at bringing them a little more publicity and showing off the city at the same time.

I confess, I've cheated here. Some of these statues have been put in some pretty unphotogenic locations and this was the very worst I have encountered yet! But luckily this wonderful Shaum was on display last week in Clifton when there was a press launch which I saw the aftermath of. So here he is in all his glory!

Here lived the greatest detective of the world.

221 B, Baker Street

But it never happened in reality

He only lived in the imagination and the writings of his author.

Ici vécut le plus grand détective de tous les temps.

Baker Street, 21B

Mais en réalité, il n'y a jamais mis les pieds.

Puisqu'il ne vécut que dans l'imagination de son auteur et de ses lecteurs...

The strange landscape of Dartmoor.~ visited by Sherlock Holmes in pursuit of The Hound of the Baskervilles.

The Scarecrow Invasion is an annual event in the little town of Meaford. One could say it's a "curious incident," as Sherlock Holmes would, and lots of people come from out of town to have a look - including us! The trick here was to photograph him without too many background distractions and all the visitors milling around.

A number of other towns or cities have a scarecrow festival of some sort but this one has been going for 25 years.

Ex-Metropolitan Railway 'Growler' No 8 ''Sherlock Holmes'' waiting at Rickmansworth in May 1961, ready to take the next loco-hauled train from Aylesbury on to Baker Street. Photo taken from a passing train, and there is a small audience of staff gathered on the left..

Loco-hauled passenger services ended in September 1961, and the new 'A Stock' took over as far as Amersham, with Aylesbury services taken over by BR. Most of the electric locos - including No 8 - were withdrawn in 1962 and later scrapped, and today (2023) two have been preserved, of which No 5 is a static exhibit in the LT museum at Covent Garden, and the the other - No 12 ''Sarah Siddons'' - is operational on special LT excursions.

"The name is Sherlock Holmes and the address is 221b Baker Street".

I took a couple of shots here years ago, with one of my early cameras, and ever since when I pass by I have this deja-vu feeling of "must come back here for some more shooting". I finally did - still in passing, but a few different shots - just enough to keep me wanting to come for more...

While Marty is working hard on her new investigation, an unexpected visitor startles her. Eeeek!

Holmes and Watson investigate.

The Sherlock Holmes is a Victorian era themed public house in Northumberland Street near Charing Cross railway station and Trafalgar Square which contains a large collection of memorabilia related to the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes. The original collection was put together for display in Baker Street in London during the Festival of Britain in 1951.

Baker Street by Jerry Rafferty

'Winding your way down to Baker Street

Lite in your head. and dead on your feet'

This is Boston Place, overlooking Marylebone station, and five minutes walk from the famous Baker Street. Sherlock Holmes, inhabitant of 221b Baker Street, has made this west London street famous the world over.

The song of the same name is autobiographical and recalls the times in the 1970s when Jerry Rafferty moved to London and would meet former band member Billy Connolly. To me, the song always seems quite sad, of someone who has fame but leads a somewhat empty life, seeking solace in booze and parties.

I like the line 'one more year and then you'll be happy', I think it is a real wake up call, it's all too easy to drift through life without making any real changes.

The song does end on a happy note with 'The sun is shining, it's a new morning, And your going, your going home', relief at leaving London and returning home.

The video is a real blast from the past, it just screams 'UK city in the late 70s', rubbish in the street and everything a bit grey!

Just something quick for the Sherlock premiere. Wasn't to into it, and I defineltly didn't like the last part which I won't spoil, but I still love Sherlock, so I'll keep watching.
