This brought back strong memories of my Grandfather, born in 1899 and was a keen gardener. He would stand still, stiffing the air and say... "The East Wind Is Coming" then send me to chop wood for his greenhouse fire. The day after I took this we had 6" of snow.
I snuck away from a lecture while chaperoning my daughter's 4th grade class at the Washington State Legislature Bldg. in Olympia WA. and took a few shots. This one my daughter titled room 221 B after Sherlock Holmes's address.
"Mama! Come and look!" That was Aubrey on the back deck.
"Yes, Love? What is it?"
"Look, Mama! I am the great detective, Sherlock Holmes, and I am off to investigate a mystery in India! I am riding an elephant! They are great creatures!"
"Indeed they are, Aubrey! I mean, Sherlock! Well, please be careful, and be home before dinner!"
"I will, Mama! I love you!"
"I love you, too, Aubrey/Sherlock!"

Folio Society Sherlock Holmes Complete Stories: Five Volume Set:
The Adventures, The Return, The Memoirs, His Last Bow, The Case-Book.
Oddly, the famous phrase Elementary Dear Watson or Elementary, My Dear Watson never actually appeared in any Holmes books.
The closest phrase appears in the story The Adventure of the Crooked Man when Holmes explains a deduction:
"Excellent!' I (Watson) cried.
'Elementary,' said he."
"Presumably you are on a stakeout on behalf of your esteemed colleague Sherlock Holmes"? At least this is what I asked him when I came across him at Mottistone Gardens on the Isle of Wight - but he wasn't telling!

Come Watson, the game is afoot
It took some Sherlock Holmes to find this platform, but when you solve the mystery, its well worth it.
Whether it's the golden stone brickwork or the white tiled arches overhead, or maybe just the station name itself, its all beautifully preserved with original fixtures, all dotted about.
This platform was constructed in 1863.
With ten platforms overall, Baker Street has the most London Underground platforms of any station on the network, so finding this deep treasure required a very helpful & friendly member of London underground staff.
Hammersmith & City line - don't get lost.

Thanks for visiting......
As some of you might know, this magnificent spiral staircase is normally closed to the public and you need to book a guided tour in advance. The thing about guided tours is, that you are not alone while visiting, and taking pictures usually turns out to become quite a challenge. Now I was either very lucky or a very good actress, but after explaining to a very nice man, that I had come all the way from Switzerland just to see this incredible staircase, he looked at me with a big grin on his face and went to get the key. I ended up enjoying a private tour of this famous staircase and felt like Harry Potter in the Prisoner of Azkaban! :-)
Macro Mondays theme four. Sherlock Holmes The Sign of Four. This is the note put in dead Sholto's hand by the one legged man. There are four words. The word four and the sign. The Sikh numeral 4. Didn't find it in the book. But found it on a book cover and in a TV movie. It is correct. I Googled it. The paper is 3 inches square before I cropped it down. HMM. the old photographer ,;-)

Alles Cumberbitches.

A 3x3 inch book containing two Sherlock Holmes adventures. I added the pen for a London connection and to give a sense of scale.

Light in your head and dead on your feet. Well another crazy day, you'll drink the night away and forget about everything.
I pulled these books out of my collection to reread in the evenings. The Sherlock Holmes Complete Edition was one of my absolute favorite books when I was around 11. I finished this book from start to finish. I enjoyed reading about Holmes and Watson so much as child that I tried to start a newsletter fan club when I finished it. I had all sorts of dreams: quizzes on the book, giveaways, t-shirts. It didn't take me long to realize that there weren't too many people who loved Sherlock THAT much, lol. It's been years since I read it and it immediately filled me with joy when I pulled it out of a stored box. The other book was a gift given to me from my oldest brother. He were passing through Colorado a few years ago and it happened to be in September on my birthday. He gave me his personal copy of The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway, one of his favorite reads. Still makes me feel special when I read it. Reading a real paper book is such a joy to me. For some reason holding a tablet/pad just doesn't feel the same. There is something satisfying about turning pages and feeling the thickness of the finished pages in your hand. Cocoa and paleo pumpkin bread top off the mood next to the soft hiss and snap of the fire.:) If you feel like hearing a mystery from my favorite book, there's a place next to the fire:-D Have a good night my friends!

I have just realised that this should be August 9th's photo. Oh, well, I shall have to do something else for that.
My copy of the London A-Z and an old pair of my glasses. I had tried the first ones with my current glasses, but I am practically blind without them and could not see through the view finder, so even with autofocus I did not know where I was actually focusing. I wonder if I had used manual where the focus would have been.
For those not closely acquainted with London (or Sherlock Holmes), 221B Baker Street is the address of the fictional private detective Sherlock Holmes, created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. There have been many incarnations of Sherlock Holmes, one of the most recent (and the one I was watching as I took this photo) is the BBC series Sherlock, starring Benedict Cumberbatch. Fun fact; Benedict Cumberbatch has heterochromia, a condition leading to his eyes being different colours.
I am a treasure trove of trivia.
