With a 4:30am wake up call, we chugged up Cave Landing road in Avila Beach. We hiked out to the rocky point and posted up with our gear. After watching the warm sun wake up sleepy Shell Beach we cruised down the mountain (tri-pod and all) and found ourselves the perfect low- tide-tide-pools to slip and slide around in. After taking advantage of the negative tide we Splashed our way south to Pismo for some breakfast burritos. It was such a nice way to reconnect with my high school buddy, snap a few sunrise/tidepool/wildflower shots, and learn a few Canon tricks! Thank you Nick!
Taken 1-16-2009 at the opening of the "Ebb & Flow" exhibit at the Huntington Beach Art Center. The exhibit celebrates the City's centennial with historical artifacts, photos, documents, etc.
Not a bird I would be expecting to find on the beach and cliffs but, considering all the flies and small flying insects, I probably should. I took a little road trip to Shell Beach which is appx 25 miles
south east of New Orleans proper. A hard hit fishing community.
There is a Hurricane Katrina memorial at the end of Yscloskey Hwy....
both on shore and in the water. It's also an area where fishermen take
their boats out to the giant Lake Borgne, it is along the Mississippi River
-Gulf Outlet (MRGO) which is an inlet the leads to the Gulf Of Mexico.
Peron pensinsula Fence reaching into the waters of Shark Bay, WA.
Project Eden is a conservation project that aims to turn back the tide of extinction and ecological destruction in the Shark Bay World Heritage Area.
For this reason a 'Feral Proof Fence' has been constructed reaching from one end right across the Peron peninsula to the other.
Feral invader species, such as cats, foxes, rabbits and goats are being removed from the peninsula to give the indigenous animals a protected area to rebuild their numbers.
Seen sitting on the fence are mostly Pied cormorants.

I wouldn't say taking seascape images is my "comfort zone" but it probably makes up a good 75% of my portfolio. That's not much of a surprise since I grew up about five minutes from the beach. One thing about the sea is, its ever changing and "random". The composition of this photo completely depended on the movement of the water and slowing down the exposure gives shape to the tides and forms the basis of the composition. This was taken the same night as the last picture I posted but much earlier and in a completely different spot.
At 110km long, Shell Beach is one of only two beaches in the world made completely out of shells.
The shells on this beach are all the small cockle species Fragum erugatum.
The beach forms a sustainable resource as the shells concrete together and are cut out in blocks and used as a naturally insolating building material.

Shell Beach / California / Central Coast
This large arch opening is a hidden sight in Shell Beach, not many people know where it is or how to get to it. I've only photographed it a couple of times and the approach is so limited and straight forward that it poses a challenge to photograph artistically and with character.

Saturday I tried to find a break in the storm to get some shots. When I got to Shell Beach the wind was so cold and it was too rainy to attempt setting up. I ran into Josh Patching and we talked about a small opening in the clouds that had potential. I was too cold to wait it out.
But as I drove on I decided to try anyway. I stopped at Shelter Cove and set up in the gazebo. Then the wind and rain stopped and I was able to get some stormy shots. This was the result of that small break in the clouds.
